In 1999, at the height of the monday night wars. A little company in Philadelphia put on what was voted show of the year.
It had two 3 way matches, an intergender match, a title match that was a 3 minute squash. And the main event was for the secondary title featuring a last minute substitution where an internationally wrestling superstars was replaced by a an opening match wrestlers named Balls.
Smark hughbress or proof that even the little guys can make history if they work hard enough?

That show was still better than a WWF card featuring Al Snow, Big Bossman or Chaz of the Headbangers wrestling for 3 minutes to a DQ

but how much did the boys get paid, for this once in a lifetime event?

I watched this show a few months ago and it wasn't great. Taz leaving fucked the booking up a bunch. Everything was subpar to bad.

You already know

Spring Stampede was the best show of 1999 and the last good WCW show.

Heatwave 99 is underrated. The Mainevents are just showcases for Taz and RVD more than they are matches, but the whole show feels like it's 45 minutes long. There's no fat, it just keeps moving.

by whom? You would think then, being the "best" show in the hottest year, everyone and their mother would surely know this show, right? It must be more well known than any Wrestlemania ever

The problem with Cagematch and Meltzer ratings is that, judging by these ratings, you'd think these 5 star bangers are all the most well-known matches ever, but no body watches them beyond a small contingency of "fans".

The reality is that everyone in the USA can still name The Rock, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, and maybe Undertaker, Kane, Andrew the Giant, Ric Flair, etc. And that's all that really matter. These guys had literally 10-15% of Americas TV watching population watch them twice a week. Those are the numbers that matters

But yeah, cool 5 star bangerinos I guess

Everyone who voted for this show, also watched wrestlemania that year and prefered this.

Heatwave 98 was much better

For some reason it didn’t qualify for the 1999 show of the year ballot.
