They were cooking in the final days of WCW. I think if they just had like 2 more months they would have turned it around.

It didn't matter, the AOL Time Warner execs wanted to purge everything Southern. They also dumped NASCAR at its all time high (Dale Earnhardt vs Jeff Gordon) and MonsterVision (highly rated with the key demo) while keeping the NBA when they were losing money on it. Joe Bob Briggs has broken it down many times, his appearance on the TV Guidance Counselor podcast is probably the best one.
>>
>>21426229
This, wcw still had decent numbers to build on like 3 million viewers
>>
>>21426229
>They also dumped NASCAR at its all time high (Dale Earnhardt vs Jeff Gordon)
monumental blunder of dimesola proportions
>>
>>21426229
Didn’t they still have NASCAR through TNT instead for a while?
>>
>>21426582
Crazy that both NASCAR and WWE started declining right around the same time
>>
>>21425815
I kind of agree but they already had the main guy of 80s Crockett/WCW (Dusty) join the nWo and that type of shit ruined it
>>
>>21428581
God damn! It would have been nice to see nWo Nitro go forward permanently just so we didn't have to hear you assholes constantly complain about the "Wrong" people joining the nWo.
>>
>>21428593
nWo wouldn't have worked, they needed to kill it. Marketing it as WCW/nWo is what kind of ruined the company
>>
>>21427864
No, it went to FOX and then set all time high ratings records after FOX had their team that created the groundbreaking 90s NFL coverage (with Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long) modernize NASCAR coverage with Darrell Waltrip and Larry MacReynolds
TNT lost so much money by losing NASCAR that they begged them to come back in the mid 2000s and overpaid for the rights
>>
>>21428598
I remember marks from here in Boston watching NASCAR, I was never a fan of turnleft but how did they fuck it up?
>>
>>21428612
It's so complicated and crazy that a really good movie could be made about it
Basically the coke head CEO wanted to make NASCAR a national, WWE style monopoly and also tried to kill everything Southern and closed many of their most profitable tracks while building unprofitable mega tracks in the Midwest
It was like the circus coming to town, it worked the first few years and the novelty wore off
Also Theresa Earnhardt ruined Dale Jr's career
>>
>>21425827
Dusty was an obese shitter that had all his points in Charisma(gay and black thoughbeit)
>>
>>21428646
was this before they tried the fake lynching of Bubba Wallace?
>>
>>21428656
Like 10 years before
>>
>>21428598
>team that created the groundbreaking 90s NFL coverage
you mean catering to npcs
>>
>>21428646
Dale’s death did a number as well, along with the move away from cigarette sponsors
>>
>>21428654
>Dusty was an obese shitter
but he didnt move like one. he moved well above average for a fat guy
>>
>>21426229
Never knew about them dropping NASCAR
Kek what a bitch!!
>>
>>21426301
It was down to 1.7 by December 2000
>>
Who is the Dale Earnhardt of WWE?
>>
>>21426229
>his appearance on the TV Guidance Counselor podcast is probably the best one.
QRD on what he said?
>>
>>21428172
Both were litterally victims of Hollywood rejecting southern TV growing compared to West/Northern
>>
>>21429723
Can I say Benoit?
>>
>>21429748
Dale only murdered himself though.
>>
>>21429788
Benoit, can I do this? He possibly might have killed them out of delusional love
>>
>>21429788
You take Benoit for the audience impact and safety/health discussions, or you take Owen for just "someone without a controversial image who died".
You aren't getting a one to one comparison in WWE.
Misawa in Japan would probably be the closest in wrestling, wouldn't he?
>>
>>21429822
Nascar had a lot of personalities that I feel like can be very similar to wrestlers in regards to their promos and their personalities.
>>
Who would you say is the Nascar KWABOTY?
>>
>>21429921
Dale jr
>>
>>21429745
I literally just posted it in this thread
>>
>>21428172
It was a little later. John Cena / Jimmie Johnson killed both companies
>>
>>21429925
What year would he say he was KWABOTY? 2004? Cause I wouldn’t say he was KWABOTY this year

They were motivated to make it not complete dogshit cause they were trying to get investors which was successful but they never got the tv deal so it folded
>>
>>21430315
That was just a performance for the stockholders, Bischoff was wizzorked into covering for Vince's tortious interference in the sale.

Who would you say is the Mark Martin or Denny Hamlin of WWE?
