These are british "tribute" shows. I put tributes in quotes cause they were happening at the same time these characters were on TV, so more of a reenactment than a tribute.
That said the American side weren't much better. Lot of guys did the doink gimmick, there were lots of warriors. Fun Fact, John Zandig, noted death match wrestler and founder of CZW started his career was a warrior rip off. Well into the 2000s, and probably still now, a lot of guys are just doing their version of Jeff Hardy. TNA has or had a guy who just tried to be Randy Orton, up to including getting almost exact tattoos.
There was a guy who claimed to have bought the AWA trademark and ran shows under that label. The first show I heard of was suppose to feature Kurt Angle, who was signed by the WWE, and The Rock, who had already moved on to movies. I think WWE sued them out of existence in the mid 2000s.

He got "married" on some early WWF PPV cause Vince finds hillbillies funny.
Before that he was Plowboy Frazier in Memphis, his gimmick was that Jerry Lawler needed a tag team partner and he found him pulling a plow. Later on he became playboy Frazier, he claimed to be from Philadelphia Pennsylvania despite having a very thick southern accent.
