They spent YEARS making jokes about Ciampa being Triple H's NXT self insert that couldn't get over on the main roster, then as soon as he signed with AEW, they were flooding the board with "WE FUCKING GOT HIM, E-DRONES!" and shit like that. The same exact thing happened with MCMG, New Day, and Ilja. New Day is especially pathetic because they are Sports Entertainers through and through, and do not wrestle the AEW style at all, and now they have to pretend they're great, and not completely washed up 40 somethings that can't work like they used to.

When NXT was indie-fied AEW fans didn't hate the people wrestling there, it was "these guys are good but it sucks they're going to either be stuck there forever or do nothing on the main roster because WWE is bad". Because the style of wrestling in HHH indie-NXT was pretty close to AEW, everyone loved old Takeovers.Then over time most of those NXT guys who were going head to head with AEW on Wednesday eventually moved over with the exception of Gargano/Balor.

Back across 2015-2020 or so they were a HUGE act for the company. Moving merch like Danhausen is now. A group you could pair along with any other act and get a fun segment or a pop from the crowd out of. They were everywhere. They were extremely marketable. They were worth the money. Fast forward 10 years later and fuck off. The crowd was apathetic to them back while they were last babyfaces. Then they did that retarded heel turn which only gave the crowd all the reason they didn't need to stop caring completely. They became a lowercard act and so far removed from the days of Kofimania or even Big E becoming world champion. They legitimately were not worth the same contract that they had been on. It was a 100% warranted and logical paycut
