Learning how the world works clearly demonstrates that the stuff sand niggers from 2000 years ago wrote in books is obviously bullshit, but the general idea behind religion can become appealing.
I believe that the most approachable way to understand this is when you first begin have a real grasp of thermodynamics and come to the realization that life and evolution defy entropy. Organisms becoming more complex and organized over time is the complete opposite of how the entirety of the universe functions, it's not a huge stretch of the imagination to think "intent" is involved.

I think you can be very religious in the sense of deriving your moral code/role models from religious figures without necessarily believing in nonsense like god creating the earth in 7 days and manually creating all plant and animal life at the same time, or miracles like walking on water or endlessly replicating tuna sandwiches

Science originates from religiously devout people, in fact you saw a lot of the greatest leaps in science from religiously devout scientists. Science used to be used as a way to analyze and describe the way God shaped and made the world/the mechanisms that keep it running, it was like that for a long time. Then modern times came along and science is twisted into muh heckin science as a mechanism trying to disprove God and corrupt his design by stating stuff like a man can magically become a woman and visa versa.

This. The idea that science and religion are and were always opposed only arose coincidentally at the time Marxism made it's mark.
