I grew up with "slaves" here in Brazil. Labour here is so cheap, that you can have someone spend the whole week at your house doing everything for you and it costs minimum wage. It's basically cheaper than actual slavery, as we don't have to feed and shelter them (our servant ate leftovers when available)
