The organiser of the “Gen Z Takes Charge” initiative has now registered 15,000 participants for the demonstration scheduled for Saturday, October 31, in Cologne. Cologne police confirmed this in response to an inquiry.

Previously, 5,000 participants had been expected for the rally at Heumarkt. It also emerged on Thursday that a march through the city had been registered. The route is still under discussion.

The revised figure is based on a counter on the initiative’s website, where people can indicate their intention to participate in the protests. As of Wednesday afternoon, the counter showed 12,719 registrations for Cologne.

However, it remains unclear how many people will actually attend. The website itself states that these registrations are “no guarantee that the same number of people will actually participate on site.” Cologne police have emphasised this uncertainty as well. The police are in contact with the demonstration organiser.

Nationwide Protests in 32 Cities

By Wednesday afternoon, more than 146,000 people across Germany had indicated on the website that they intended to participate in protests in 32 cities.

The demonstrations are scheduled to begin simultaneously nationwide at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
