Because streaming native to France and Europe has a very small market share, this is basically a tariff

will probably force GAFAM and Netflix & co to pay 1 billion a year, which is a huge amount

Yes, the cost will be redistributed over French people

France is at the looting the coffin stage, but I support states making their nationalist policies

They are proving that tariffs work + they are taking normies off the goyslop colored box
My verdict is bittersweet faggotry
>>
>>545232808
Based. I approve. The Internet is a public utility now, like water pipes or power lines, so if you use it as a business to make money you should pay your share.
Not to mention this will impact the brainwashing services the most (youtube, netflix, twitch, tiktok, etc) and will barely be a rounding error on actual useful content. Maybe, if we're lucky, it will even push vidya studios to optimize their shit again.

It means that if you want to stream movies, watch TV, or play video games that you had to download, you're going to pay a LOT more. But don't worry, the leftists in government insist that the companies will pay for it and the costs on you won't rise at all. How they can promise that is not explained and never will be. It's unenforceable for other reasons. Let's take Steam, for example. Steam sends a LOT of gigs to its users, but like many other companies it's a fair bet that not all of those downloads are from servers owned by Steam. What if it's contracting to a third-party datacenter? How do the frogs even know where to send the bill? And this isn't even cloud servers or real peer-to-peer!

The only way they'll ever get numbers as to how much data came from where is by pulling them out of their ass.

>The opaque presentations of data caps by Comcast and other providers—a 2021 survey found that 48% of affected subscribers didn't even know they had a cap—contributed to the FCC requiring internet providers to break down those and other fine-print points in standardized broadband labels.

>The gigabyte tax is still a long way from becoming law. The amendment was adopted in the first reading; next up is the Senate, where the conservative Republicans hold a majority and are unlikely to back the tax. On top of that, it is unclear whether the budget will find a majority at all. Yaël Braun-Pivet, the president of the National Assembly, has already urged Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to push the budget through without a vote under Article 49.3. In that case, the government could simply drop the gigabyte amendment from the text.

you are probably thinking of traffic that goes through, coming from outside of france. billing this would be quite the revenue. but the tax will (for now) only affect french customers of ISPs, whose traffic is measurable and billable on a personal level. it's not even much of an extra load administrativewise, but they could just ballpark charge the ISPs who then distribute it as a service charge. what is the customer going to do about it? when not even reducing traffic will help? pay. or leave.

Correct. 60%+ of EU west traffic is tunneled directly through French and almost all the rest is going from France to Germany and then distrod to the rest of Europe.

>but the tax will (for now) only affect french customers of ISPs, whose traffic is measurable and billable on a personal level

Not what the bill says. It essentially proposes a tariff targeted at specific murican companies. It's way easier to measure traffic at the point of exit than go by isp/customer , sort through their traffic and then determine which is taxable which isn't.

No matter how you cut it, what they are proposing is either technically impossible(going by what the bill says) or technically improbable,in violation of European privacy laws and effectively net negative on income if it happens the way you interpret it.

It takes a special breed of retard to come up with such a law prposal.

ok, i admit i only digged deeper now. says, it's a socialist proposition for change in budget 2027, that suggests to tax 'large' content providers such as Netflix, Google or Meta. which implies the local end consumers as a first target. taxing passing traffic is a technicality and will be next. and we will see more of this as the fiat system breaks down.

How it would work: Internet service providers would measure, each quarter, the volume of data each content provider and content delivery network sends to their customers, under the supervision of telecoms regulator Arcep and the tax administration. The tax would be capped at 15% of the provider's French revenue or 2% of its global revenue. Using Arcep's estimate of about 200 billion gigabytes a year of traffic to French ISPs, the authors put potential revenue at around 10 billion euros a year.

The case for it: Supporters say the biggest platforms should pay more toward public finances and the networks they rely on. The amendment names Google, Meta, Amazon, Netflix and Akamai, which Arcep says account for about half of traffic in France. Its authors also argue it would push companies to compress and optimise the data they send.

The case against it: Critics in the French tech press say the cost would end up with consumers. Télé Satellite Numérique calculated that a four-person household streaming about 200 hours of video a month would generate around 366 euros a year in tax if it were fully passed on, and Numerama noted the tax would cost several times more than carrying the data itself. Les Numériques pointed out that gaming stores, cloud storage, software updates and AI model hosts such as Hugging Face and GitHub could also fall within scope, and that providers might raise prices or throttle downloads to France. The government opposed the amendment too: public accounts minister David Amiel put the likely yield at about 5 billion euros, half the authors' estimate, and argued that half of the bill would fall on smaller players, some of them French, outside the five biggest traffic sources, Numerama reports.

No. You will not be taxed personally for running torrents in the background or for downloading a 150 GB game. How the tax actually works
It is levied only on content providers and CDNs (the companies that send the data into French ISP networks).
Your ISP simply measures the total volume coming from each identified emitter (Netflix, Google, Steam’s servers, Akamai, etc.) and reports those aggregate figures.
The tax authority then bills those companies.
Nothing is added to your personal internet bill based on how many gigabytes you download.
150 GB game download
If you buy/download from an official store (Steam, Epic, PlayStation Network, Xbox, etc.), the store/platform is the emitter and would be the one potentially owing the tax.
You might eventually see slightly higher game prices or less generous free/discounted downloads as companies try to pass costs on, but you yourself receive no tax invoice for the 150 GB.
Torrents / background P2P
BitTorrent traffic comes from other peers (other users’ computers), not from a single commercial “content provider” or CDN that the tax is designed to target.
ISPs generally cannot (and under the amendment are not supposed to) attribute random peer-to-peer flows to the list of taxable emitters the way they can attribute Netflix or Google traffic.
Domestic French peer-to-French peer traffic never even leaves the national networks in the same way.
Result: ordinary torrenting is almost certainly outside the tax base.
Bottom line
Your own data usage (torrents, big game downloads, background apps) does not generate a personal tax liability.
The only realistic effects for you are indirect: possible modest price increases on commercial services that do fall under the tax, or slightly more aggressive compression/quality reduction by those services to keep their own tax bill down.
The tax is aimed at the big platforms and CDNs, not at individual end-users.

in 1992 Poland some MPs randomly voted that the minister of the interior should publish a list of all agents of the former communist secret police who hold political office

it immediately caused the government to collapse, but not before the list was actually compiled and internally circulated, and it then leaked to the press

which is how we know the entire leadership of the Polish "opposition" including Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa worked for the secret police and the end of communism in Poland was basically the communist elite agreeing to give up power to itself, in exchange for immunity from persecution.

>Who's going to charge me for that? My ISP?

Yes. Netflix, Youtube, Pornhub, Twitch, Twitter etc will just ban french IPs until a solution has been worked out with your internet provider on how to reimburse them. The morons who passed this law does not understand that the consequences can easily be made to bounce back on them. When little pierre, n'gumba and achmed sees "service denied because ur french and we're not paying lol" they will get very angry with their MPs.

The only practical way is to gigabyte tax french internet users as they are in France and their internet can easily be metered by router software. This is a french trumpism, "we're only gonna tariff those foreign data senders", then these data tariffs blow back up in their faces.

Uh we pay 30 euro a month for unlimited 5G (up to 200 mbit) but it is capped at 1700 gig, after that you are limited to 1 mbit. Its for computers, so you get your own open IP number.

So not unlimited then.

My "unlimited" 5G lets me download 5GB every day and then I have to press a button on a website for every additional 1GB I want to use that day (the next day it goes back to normal).
I don't really consider that unlimited either but at least there is no hard cap.

Idea goes than companies who provide services and data paying that.

This is actually GOOD...it will decrease number of unnecessary patches of any software....eliminate all chit-chat-advertises...and cherry at top...the cloud companies will be finally set under taxes.

Nope....this is change to better....example you going to random site in internet and it pushing to you 1-2 gigabytes advert videos before you can find there what you looking for...when companies have to really pay from every gigabyte the adds will be shorter and smaller least....less trash videos in internet and it works better for us all.

The french are spiritually african, not european.
The moment they vote to charge for internet traffic on top of a monthly bill in here, it will be time for rag, bottle and gasoline surprises.
Internet costs literal pennies to deliver on a large infrastructure once all clients pay their normal bill. They are already earning more than enough money. Your dumb ass is defending jewish scams that fund data centers powering the surveillance state.
Just because you got used to it and accept it as normal like a cuck golem, in your misery of being taxed by simply for existing, doesn't mean it's fine and that everyone else will accept it.
Fuck these kikes.

“We made all gasoline cost 10x more for companies than people! This will surely lead to more cars on the road and happier consumers!”

“What do you mean cars cost 1,000,000€ now!?”

Realistically like they said earlier
>companies like Netflix, Steam, Amazon send their media once and it’s there to distribute
So really the only ones getting hurt are people like Astro-scientists who need huge volumes of planetary data and massive resolution images of star maps imported from American NASA to France will now see eye-watering costs to maintain. While previously the only issue was in not sending all their petabytes of data fast enough.
Sure “government funded agencies” might get a Nigga pass from the blackies in France’s parliament. But again, that’s why SpaceX is American and Europe has zero competition. Zero competition.

i would say its a bad thing because internet is increasingly a marketing and market place at the same time. so its like malls from back in the day. you kick out the customer, so market place disappears. then you lose commerce, thus tax revenue. the hopes of govt get more tax revenue, in fact decreases the tax revenue.
