The USSR sent a poor innocent dog to its death in space and that sucks, but we were doing it with monkeys before that time. I'd say doing it to monkeys is actually even worse since they're more intelligent animals and more closely related to humans.

We accomplished this feat of animal cruelty way back in 1949 with a V-2 Rocket stolen from the Germans after the war.
