Are none of the men in your family having any luck finding someone to settle down with? Do you keep seeing normal-looking white dudes walking around with hideous five-foot goblinas? What the fuck is going on? Here are the five biggest reasons why dating in the west has become a futile endeavour this past decade:
Social media and dating apps: Any woman can make a profile in five minutes and instantly be bombarded with likes and messages from every chad within a 20 mile radius. This inflates her ego and makes her think that she's hotter than she is, not realising that these guys are just stringing her along for easy sex. After inevitably getting dumped, she takes out her frustration by brutally rejecting her looksmatch. Not much more to add. We all know these apps give women unprecedented buying power on the dating market and deliberately use algorithms designed to keep men perpetually lonely so they keep paying for boosts and premium subscriptions. Imagine outsourcing your entire mate selection process to a private company that only profits when people are single. Crazy. What society would be so foolish?
Lesbians and childfree women: This is an extremely important factor that deserves far more attention that it gets. 5% of Gen Z men are gay, while 10% of young women primarily date other women (lesbian or bisexual)—in big cities it can be up to a staggering 20%. This alone creates an imbalance, but when you account for the fact that out of the remaining 80–90% only a minority even want children, you're looking at less than half of the young female population being viable for marriage, while most young men are still straight and looking to start a family. I rent two of the spare rooms in my apartment out to these zoomer chicks and both of them have brought girls home to have loud lesbian sex with. So annoying.
The new gender wage gap: The future is female? That future is now. As of 2026, nearly 60% of university graduates are female and companies openly have a preference for hiring women over men, particularly those in traditionally male dominated fields, which also happen to be higher-paying. The result? Young women are now making more money than their male counterparts, while young men report higher rates of unemployment and wage stagnation. This matters because women DO NOT marry down, so their standards only go up for a shrinking pool of *eligible* men. Ironic because many of these women pursue careers thinking that it'll give them access to higher-value men, but they just end up more lonely.
Societal prudishness: Have you seen those TikToks of those people freaking out over a five-year age gap? Everything romantic now is subject to extreme scrutiny, especially since MeToo. Want to approach that cute girl at the supermarket? She's just trying to do her shopping bro. At the gym? Let her work out in peace. At work? Somebody call human resources! NOTHING is acceptable. You have to be an incredibly smooth operator to navigate around the barriers society has put up to prevent men from procreating, and most can't be expected to have such expertise.
Lack of third spaces: This gets us to our final and perhaps most glaringly obvious reason for the dating apocalypse: Where do you even go to meet women? Or to meet anyone for that matter? My grandparents met at a ball organised by the local council. Something like that being held today is unimaginable—and don't say nightclubs because those have gone way downhill as a means of meeting women. As recently as the late 2010s you could pull up to the dance floor and get off with a random girl before going back to her place, but that's all over now. The last time I went to one all of the girls danced by themselves in a massive group like it was a fucking mosque. It's a problem across society though: I went back to university for my postgrad recently and it was the first time I made new friends in years. School is unironically the best place to make connections, but we all have to grow up eventually.
