Does anybody have any experience or stories to tell about winter camping
    >>
No, nobody has ever done that before actually
    >>
uhhh i just stay in airbnbs but sometimes the heating systems are absurdly loud or inefficient or don't work well
I can't imagine being in an actual tent that would be misery
I should probably buy a thicker blanket for winter to bring to these airbnbs
its amazing what little 200 a night buys nowadays

the best heating system is oil filled radiators
    quiet and potent

it was cold and I was miserable
I’m sure you are already aware that sleeping bag temperature ratings are a lie. but I figured to myself “the bag is rated for 15 degrees and the forecast says it shouldn’t get below 25. 10 degrees is a lot”
    it was not.

Would you say that mid autumn camping would be better for that quote unquote cold comfy camping experience then

It would be nice being cozy under a jacket at night by fire keeping me warm with a cold occasional breeze and maybe some food sizzling alongside a warm drink

My original plan was maybe late December early January but if that's too cold it's too cold just let me know

idk mine is plenty warm under the comfort rating but you probably don’t want to push too far into the extreme. season appropriate clothes help too. mine also cost under 40 euroshekels so you don’t even have to get the super expensive frauds

Cold and wet. Still had fun hanging under a leaky tarp drinking beers and eating canned ravioli with the boys though. We had to occasionally push the accumulating sleet off of the tarp or it would sag too much. I don't think I would do it again necessarily, but I'm glad to have done it.

Have enough layers. Hand warmers and foot warmers help. My feet get cold in the sleeping bag so I sometimes double up socks or stuff a jacket down in the foot box.
    >>
Make sure you have a good, thick sleeping pad. Only times I was cold was when I had a shitty air mattress.
    >>
Too many people approach winter camping like notmal camping it's a completely different thing, but if you spend enough time doing it, is better than normal camping in my opinion

I have winter camped hundreds of nights and quite enjoy it but I never do it just out of a backpack. You end up wanting a lot more stuff for comfort and it is tough to carry it all if the snow is deep. I go by snowmachine, train, or pulling a sled. I've also slept in my truck a lot in winter but I'm not gonna count that.

    >let your tent ventilate to minimize frost
    >add sacrificial layer to sleeping bag so you can shake frost off
    >avoid being sweaty and dress breathable
    >sleep with warm water
    >spare socks
    >slippers so you only have to put cold boots on once per day
    >eat carb heavy and eat often
    >put water in snow or sleeping bag to prevent freezing
    >drink warm beers
    >dress slightly warm when stationary, slightly cold when active (layers)
    >avoid gas stoves when extremely cold (even if fuel works, gaskets can fail)
    >keep batteries warm or they will fail
    >bring entertainment and snacks for the long darkness hours

Once you get the hang of it it is very enjoyable and offers a lot of solitude.

just add 10 deg c to the ratings if you're a cold sleeper
how much difference does putting on 5kgs for the winters make i wonder
    >>
Every time I've winter camped, I get a bone-chilling feeling for the next few days unless I sweat it out. As in, even if my house is 70F+ and I'm wrapped up in a blanket, I still feel cold. This is countered by a very hot sauna or going on a hard run to sweat.

Although we are always so unprepared and sometimes you're up all night just rubbing your feet to stay warm or build yourself a quinzhee in the wind lol.
