I live in seattle and have been going out even with 5$ per gallon gas, it's a matter of priorities.
If you want to get out every week stuff like money isn't an obstacle.

If only the prices went further up to where they save my /out/ experience from the motorist

How fucking poor are you? lmao

Only for poorfags who hate America.
If you really want to /out/ badly enough you'll find a way to make it work.
    >>

Only for citiots who have to drive hours to reach quality /out/ locations. And even then, only if they're poor.

it's worth it because otherwise those 8-year-old girls would have nuked Israel

imagine being stuck to within 15-60 miles of a single location. or being a do-nothing dirtbag who thinks they're superior for not doing anything other than consuming and spending months walking distances that don't have a deeper meaning to them that could be traversed in hours with a bush plane or car

I can go into my backyard like any retard. I want the option of seeing rainforests, glaciers, and deserts on a whim, and I take that option.

also working on cars will teach you an incredible amount. nature is in everything. nature is the best engineer.

quit being a cuck and see the world with all the tools at your disposal

Imma keep it a buck witcha, chief. You don't go outside. Full stop. That's all she wrote.

    >>
    >>2879539
You have to factor in greater distances and average gas guzzlers that Americans drive.
    F150 24 MPG
    Yaris 45 MPG
IOW, the yank is paying 2.43 to drive to the trailhead.
    >>
    >>2879556
    fucking lol
last trailhead I parked at was 130km off pavement. Good luck getting a Yaris there; even an F-150 would be sketchy on OEM tires.
Not everyone lives in a little postage stamp nation.
    >>
I just got a bike for free from a neighbour who didn't want it and I still can't gain the courage to cycle down a road, only down the pavement. It is a horrible feeling when you start to develop the same thoughts cyclists do.

You could also just be sociable and hitchhike. There is absolutely no reason to waste time and money to sit by yourself in the car when you could just stick out your thumb on the nearest route. I grew up in the heart of the city, but I've never found a place where I can't get a ride in an hour or 2.
I understand how convenient it is to get in the auto at home and stop at the trailhead, but the feeling you get when the truck stops 100 miles from the last gas station and your lift offers you beer and the best of luck just can't be beat. From there it's just a matter of finding a decent bike or a place to put up a hammock.
I'm telling you that this whole country is yours. It's your inheritance. You don't need a car, or a train, or a plane ticket to see it all. You just start walking, and eventually you get there. You get places you didn't know existed. Took me a month to get across the country and the only regret I have is taking the bus out of STL instead of walking. Gonna winter here in the rockies then head north.
    Just hitch, and keep hitching

This. Too many poors on here
    >>
    >>2881678
if anything it’s poors that have learned the hard way what you can live without and what can be used or done instead of the expensive things
    >>
    >>2881678
It has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with the types of people for whom consuming copious amounts of gasoline is critical to their "outdoor experience". They are poor of spirit, poor of mind, poor of relationship with nature.

    You're probably one of them.

Murica is big and spread out and only two cities in the entire country have usable transit thanks to auto lobbying and our politicians hating us
    >>
Assuming your /out/ trip requires 200 miles of driving round trip, and your car gets 20 mpg, a gas price increase from $4 to $5 per gallon would cost you an extra $10 total. Annoying for sure but not the end of the world. Gas prices for daily city driving are a much bigger issue than a weekly or monthly trip.
