What makes me nervous is that I've been bitten by many a New English tick and often don't find them for a day or so and never got a bullseye rash but have been staggering around with Lyme-like symptoms for years :\
    >>
    >>2875313
    Not so fast, nigga.
    >>
    >>2875318
Have you heard of doctors before?
    >>
    >>2875322
lyme tests always come back negative. I know two people who lived with it for years (my sister had through an entire pregnancy) and every test was negative. also I live in a non-Lyme country now and they don't even test people for it
    >>
Guys it's not that hard, go out in shorts and be white and every 5 minutes give your legs a quick look over. I can usually feel it when they're biting anywa.
    >>
    >>2875325
but if you're doing a multi-nighter you're wearing layers and sleeping innawoods and dealing with all kinds of terrain and that's when you get ticks up your dickhole

Lyme seroprevalence in EU forestry workers: 15-22% (Belgium, France)

Of those seropositive, asymptomatic rates ran ~45-90% depending on study/definition

Big systematic review (61 studies, 22 EU countries): ~50% asymptomatic overall — flagged as a real data gap, most seroprevalence studies don't track this well

US Lyme vaccine trial: 7-11% seroconverted asymptomatically (not EU, often cited alongside)

Belgium's self-reported symptom numbers are noisy — most people who claimed Lyme history weren't even seropositive

    >TLDR: roughly half of Lyme infections in Europe never show symptoms, going by the best available data.

I had lyme disease and it showed up randomly on an unrelated blood test. They told me and gave antobiotics. That was it, no follow up to confirm it's gone. Idk the symptoms really so I can't tell if I ever had them but I believe it affects joints and I have gout so idk how to tell stuff apart then.

maybe I should add I simply use picrel to spray on shoes and jackets and soak my socks, pants and hammock suspension (not the tree straps) in it. Idc. It's a trade off and I choose the cancer and titty growth accelerator over lyme and encephalitis.

I live in the southeast and got a tick bite with a bullseye rash in 2013. been bit by hundreds of ticks during my life, only that once did I get a bullseye rash. doctors refused to test me for it, claiming lyme is rare and I could come back if I got sick. I did have some weird stuff going on shortly after, but eventually went away and I have been fine(I think) ever since. who knows. insect bites can have localised reactions regardless of lyme they say, including bullseye rash simply from saliva.
    >>
    >>2875915
    Damn :\
    Any other side-effects?
Also, you'll be lucky if's only a decade.
    >>
    >>2875488
Got bit by one of these on the Delmarva peninsula. Didn't realize it was on me until I got home and went to shower. Had no idea how long it had been there, but it left a rash on me for over 3 months and itched like all hell. Didn't seem to affect my ability to eat the sacred cow though. Thank God almighty for that, I can't live without steak.

    >>
    >>2876502
everything about them is foul. they hang on undersides of leaves and in the needles and twigs in murky swampen spots, and literally just wait for something to walk slither or hop past. and they're basically one single muscle with suckers on both ends and they'll latch on and feed like balloons and then drop into the dirt, slither into the muck, shit a bunch of babies out and then die. disgusting. all of it.

in australia, most leeches are terrestrial. they hang out on the leaves of ankle high plants to grab onto you as you go past then they climb up your pant legs or into your shoes. there are some that live in the soil and they'll go and find you if you're sleeping outdoors or sitting in one place for too long

    >>2876324
in europe and north america (i think) leeches only live in water so you can only really get them if you go for a swim in a gross shitty pond or something, which is why they don't think of leeches as being a problem
    >>
    >>2875313
I hate these little niggers like you wouldn't believe.

How do we not have an organic compound commercially available to apply to our skin and clothes to make ourselves unappetizing to these faggots? Are we retarded?

There has to be something these woodland chiggers hate. Lavender? Wood ash? Someone needs to do some experiments.

I dunno about the people you know but lyme typically only really fucks you up if you let it go without treatment for an extended period of time. I caught it last year and a three-week treatment of antibiotics stopped all the symptoms and I've had no issues since. Obviously catching it isn't ideal but the idea of it shouldn't keep you from doing things you enjoy.
    >>
    >>2875320
based, i have a batch of old permethrin i've been meaning to spray all over my picnic tables

    >>2875811
yeah it's a skill issue, i literally had one on my nutsack as a kid in nova scotia where ticks are rampant

    >>2876227
ew yeah i had a few of those bathing in fresh water in new hampshire, non-salt water is filthy and full of parasites and disease

    >>2877142
we have it, it's called permethrin, the problem is that ticks are arachnids so the chemical also kills based and redpilled spiders

    >>2877860
it's fine, just check your legs, balls, brush your hair every night. ticks are subhuman parasites that can only be caught walking through tall grass if they spawn within a few feet of your path

forget about that. some of them give tick borne encephalitis. its very common in northern europe iirc. there are cases of it in the US and it has killed people.
there was some woman in maine who died last year from a tickbite.
    >>
    >>2878275
    >common in northern europe
thats true. The upside: You can get a shot against it, unlike lyme.
My mother told me she had someone in their family and people didn't explain it to her when she was a kid, she was simply vonfused about why she had to visit an aunt in a care home who was a 40 yo woman acting like 6yo. Apparently your development can simply halt at the time you get the disease.
    >>
Fucking hate ticks. I had 52 babies in me one time. Took my gf a whole day to remove them. I'd sat on a nursery.
I've had about 15 other adults in me. 3 of them in my scrotum.
One was in my arse crack and I was single at the time so had to squat over a mirror to get the fucker out. Not a pretty sight.

i once had a tick bite my dick when i was a kid.

ive had 100 ticks collect between my back and backpack but never had one actually bite me

Not a fan of leeches either. Anything that sucks blood loves me for some reason. Went swimming in a lake in the forest in mazury, Poland with 9 other people.
I was covered in leeches when I got out. Nobody else was.
    I swear I'm cursed.

I go /out/ all the time but if I had ticks where I live I would never hike again. I know this because I've been hiking in tick-interested areas and it wasn't even close to worth it. Constant paranoia and revulsion when I find one on me. Fuck that.
    >>
    >>2879859
I live in a particularly infested area on the east coast all you gotta do is treat your pants shirt socks and boots (takes like 2 minutes) tuck your pants into your socks and maybe check yourself after every outing and you're good. If you're camping you can treat your pack and tent too. If you're one of those people that hikes in shorts and sandals just check yourself carefully if you get em soon enough you won't get sick
    >>
I've now been in tick heavy pnw for a couple years, and while I remain scared and disgusted by them, it isnt all as bad as I thought. You learn which plant communities will have them in what season. I just look down after a section of trail I know had some and flick the ones on my pants off. Havent had a bite in over a year

If you aren't taking a single 200mg dose of Doxycycline after hiking in tick country (or any high risk sexual encounter) you are putting your health at risk for no reason. I take it all the time and I've never experienced even the mildest side effects. It's a risk free magic pill that hugely reduces your probability of getting Lyme.
