How is your experience with night hiking, anons? There's a big forest reserve in the middle of town and I want to lose track of time and walk around in it at night. It might be the difference of only a few people I'd otherwise meet but I want the peace of knowing I'm alone. There are some coyotes apparently but no bears or montain lions probably. I bought a bear horn and a stick just to be careful. Anyway I feel like I could walk forever in this sort of environment and I'd get a lot of exercise

    You are never alone, anon.

It's a pain because surprise, you can't see shit at night
    >big forest reserve in the middle of town
Uh what? It'd probably full of hobos then
    >I bought a bear horn and a stick
You bought a stick? Don't go

You won't see shit you might get lost or hurt yourself. If you really want to go in the woods at night find a good spot and stay there (camping)

there's not much to it. if you have a headlamp, you're good. if you don't have a headlamp or you'd rather not use one, it depends. you can walk at night without illumination, even on moonless nights if there's not too much tree cover. dense tree cover makes everything really dark - too dark to see. trails make it easier to see as well - especially logging or fire trails since they contrast against the forested edges.

It is genuinely frightening. I feel a lot safer when I do it with a girl or femboy but not other men.

It's a terrible idea to go without knowing the geography of the place; we don't know the best places to stay. It's practically suicide; there could be murderers there.

I walk a lot in darkness because I live in the forest and have no car, but in my country there are no predators. Not sure if I would do that with my heavy grocery bags and backpack when there is bears around but your distances are likely much higher.

I used to take highdose mushrooms and go to the forest, especially in the 2014 era when I lived near Königsforst in Cologne (Rath Heumar). Magical times, its for you if you enjoy solitude and dissolution into other states of consciousness. But here where I live there is nothing to fear except humans. And there are never any. Only once some homeless sheltered in the entrance. Humans are afraid of total darkness and the forest, which I enjoy, because it gives me safety in that knowledge. When you do it regularily you become used to it.

It became now a tradition to dose my drugs in the forest, especially DXM nowadays, I also grow Cannabis there which is like an exercise.

The times I've done it, I always seem to walk through a big cobweb. Really hate it when that happens.

did that a lot in californias high desert (north of big bear)
my brother, a friend and i were going to the local hotsprings at night, but we deviated and went into a dried valley, we got very very very close to a rattle snakes nest (you could smell it from a good 20-40 ft)
my brother got really close (about 5-7 ft), with our dogs (which we always took offleash)

sufficient to say, i told him to double check his suroundings and ensure there was nothing dangerous like snakes, he confirmed the nest and we dipped.

right back the way we came.
the friend at the time was calm about it the whole time, he was a youngin' (about 6-8 years younger than us, we were in our mid 20's)
the other times we went hiking they were a lot less smooth but also less dangerous.

    fun times.

i am a pussy and probably would not do it alone. with friends it can be pretty though especially if you are in a place where you can see the stars. in hs i knew a girl who would drive /out/ and get stoned w her friends.

You could do it with night vision goggles. That would be cool; but if anyone saw you they would think of the freak in Silence of the Lambs.

Hard to walk. Can't see shit. Noises put your instinctual danger drives on maximum, it's amazing how loud a squirrel can sound jumping around in leaves... and how quiet something huge can be. The shapes take on threatening aspects. The cries of coydogs sound like strangled barking howls. Man was not supposed to be outside alone in the dark. That's where the monsters are.
I do it anyway of course but if you're a first timer be warned.

Seems unwise, you'll need a flashlight so you don't walk into orb weaver webs but if it's a city park full of schizos and crackheads you don't want to be seen.

I did nightly hikes around north bend for a couple weeks, can confirm I was shitting myself. Started bringing a gun then just stopped. Not so bad to be the first person on the trail just before dawn though.

Anon, my friend died this way.

He went off trail. No big deal, but he was exploring the high north country. He didn't have much experience at that latitude.

I think he got turned around and realized his GPS had no signal out there. Again- usually no big deal. He tried to make his way back from memory.

If he had just stayed put, he would have been fine. Night falls early in the high latitudes. He panicked. He had no flashlight. Even in Autumn, it got freezing out there when the sun went down, so he tried to hike out in the dark.

All of these factors compounded. He lost his footing. He fell down an embankment and broke his leg. He couldn't climb out due to the injury.

It took them a week to find him, and by that point he had died of exposure and dehydration.

If he had brought a flashlight. If he hadn't tried hiking out at night. If he hadn't gone off the trail... all of these things run through my mind.

Ever since this incident, I always make sure to have a backup flashlight in my EDC along with my knife.

Anon, at least bring a fucking flashlight if you're going night hiking. Take it from me. Even if you're an asshat, I don't want you to die. I'm trying to prevent your premature death.

I once stumbled upon a sleeping deer while out in the woods. It was the most terrifying experience of my life.
    >>
    >>2874700
It gets spooky and if the trail isn't obvious you can get turned around a lot more frequent. You'll see random eyes reflect off your flashlight at times, but not be able to see what it was. Occasional strange animal noise.
But if there's no bears or mountain lions you're fine. Coyotes aren't going to go after you unless you're like 4' tall and visibly exhausted.
Get a headlamp, decent flashlight, and have backups.
