Panther thread because why not. For those mistaken, the Power Puff Girls thread is down the hall and to the left.Post yer car, the vic you're thinking of buying, whatever bullshit you're up to in your garage. All is welcome. Notable news for this thread:> Speedmaster's 1-148-020-01 Midrise intake is currently available on autoplicity for $435> Nothing else yet, share your news and it'll go to the next thread, if this is popular enough to get one
>>29137960>Panther thread because why notFor the 5 or so guys on /o/ that own one still, or the passing 10 anons who think they want one because they're hyped up to be cheap run forever tanks? Pretty soon the panther platform count will drop to nearly zero only seen under monster trucks or actively being shredded after the last police department turns theirs on for scrap value.
>>29137994you can find ford galaxies that are more than twice as old as the average panther and those can still be found as clean examples.plenty of people who love these cars will preserve them. they're too iconic not to. I was looking at a clean police interceptor for 12k not too far from me.
>>29138004> Plenty of people who love these cars will preserve themTrue, but we also have lots of people who see these and froth at the mouth to abuse the shit out of them. Two sides at odds. At my old job I had a guy who kept pestering me to let him derby mine and he would get increasingly more pissed every time I said no.That guy is the entire reason my vic has two entirely separate interlocks
>>29138004the Crown Vic was a malaise shitbox that never had the aura of of a 60s Galaxie
>>29138152True, any car that was a child of the Carter years is going to be cursed by definition.
>>29137994Won't they get more money auctioning them instead of scrapping?
>>29138152>>29138160>the crown vic nameplate started in the 70s and lasted all the way until 2010, mostly unchanged from the 90sholy SHIT
>>29138152since basically nothing but cops and old people drove the things
>>29138164they absolutely would and they know it. so they wouldn't be scrapping those. the police agencies know how much people want crown vics.
>>29138165same platform for 32 years, two major restyles (1992 and '98)
>>29138167any police Crown Vics were long ago scrapped. i mean, the last ones were made in 2011 and the average service life of a patrol car is two years, so they were in service 2013 at latest. besides, cop cars lead extremely hard lives and are basically trashed so you would never want one.
>>29137994>Pretty soon the panther platform count will drop to nearly zeroAbout 9.6 million panthers were made across Ford, Lincolon, and Mercury. There's got to be plenty left.
gay thread gay car
>>29138173The Fords would have the lowest survival rate since on average 60% were fleet sales. Some Town Cars were fleet, but mostly for the limousine trade while Grand Marquis were all retail sales and most owned by elderly people.
>>29138171detectives take better care of their cars and drive them more gently. there are a few still around in my town. those are the cars you want.
>>29138176the 80s LTDs, in civvie form, used to be relatively common and it wasn't the most popular police car back then, it ran third behind Caprice and Diplomat. after the 80s it was usually 75% fleet sales each model year.
>>29138171>besides, cop cars lead extremely hard lives and are basically trashed so you would never want onedid i also mention what happens in the back seat of the things?
>>29138181the back seats were usually some kind of metal or plastic cladding that they could easily spray out. they weren't cloth like the front seats.
>>29138178>the 80s LTDs, in civvie form, used to be relatively common and it wasn't the most popular police car back thenone reason for that was probably the infamous variable venturi carb. this was only used on 302 engines 1980-81, but all 351s had it to 91 and as that was the standard police LTD engine it was unreliable and unpopular.
>>29138178Oldest Panthers I'd seen were mid-80s or so never saw the early ones but there weren't as many of them and they didn't stay on the road as long; they were malaise turds.
>>29138193It looks like the Pacific Northwest there, definitely in wintertime.
>>29138193Ford were broke too back in the early 80s and didn't have a lot of money to assemble cars with.
>>29138193I did see an 82 LTD one time. It had a badge on the side proclaiming "Electronic Fuel Injection" (actually throttle body at the point) since that was then a huge deal. They didn't get sequential multipoint until 86, although the Town Car had it since 80.
>>29138193the B-bodies weren't that much of an improvement tbqh
>>29138204>>29138193
>>291381930-60 time about 15 seconds
>>29138169three (88, 92, and 98)
>>29138204>advertising the aerodynamics of a box
>>29138311what it's referring to is how the B-bodies were reskinned in 80 to be more aerodynamic. my pet theory is that the 77-79 body shell was a beta version they had to rush into production and the 80 reskin was what the designers intended after they had more time to work on it.
>>29138204The B-bodies were significantly de-contented in 80, lost a lot of the more interesting options available in the 70s and engines bigger than a 305/307 and after that were mostly old guy and fleet vehicles. There were also some pretty unfortunate fuel saver options like the 265 V8 and the diesel engine.
>>29138173People said this about GM's B-bodies too. "oh, they made 7 million Roadmasters and Caprice Classics, they'll never go away!"OOPS
next year gon be good
>>29138152I mean I wont deny that a 60s galaxie has aura, but at the same time idk what to tell you man my first car is a crown vic that I'm STILL driving. >>29138171> any police crown vics were long ago scrappedI'm not sure I follow? You can still find them in government auctions. Fuck, I daily a police vic. Though technically I think it was a detective's car given it lacks the spotlight and has a blackout mode+tremco.>>29138173There are, for now, but prices are going up because it's becoming popular to race and derby them. I think Police vics are usually first up because of the beefier handling package they got and how beat up they usually are. BUT, I am seeing more people choosing to daily them so there's still hope.
Also, does anyone know if the later model year doors would fit a 2004 P71? I know there were subtly different wheelbases over the years. Like Taxis being slightly longer than standard. I can't remember though if it's all P7B's or just some of them.
