Wanna buy a 2006 Lexus is350 ,is this fun and reliable car to have?
    >>
    >fun
    eh
    >reliable
It may be a Toyota but it's still a 20 year old car.

There will be very little that is fun about that car, but it will be well made and decently reliable. I agree with what >>29137406
said though, it’s 20 years old so expect plastic and rubber parts to be on their way out. I have an 04 Camry V6 and while it’s a quality car, those types of parts are showing their age.

Structurally should be fine if there is rust AND maintainance are kept up, especially the transmission fluids and filter.
As with any 20 year old car, you need to be ready to replace all wires tubes and hoses... basically anything plastic that aged out, then you will get another 20 years out of them before you do it again.

    >is this fun
very much so. Lots of upgrade racing-level parts you can purchase from Japan. Can totally change the way the car feels and looks.
    >reliable car to have?
also very reliable. ONLY if maintenance was dutifully followed. As the GDI engine design will eventually always clog the intake valves with soot and carbon, requiring media blasting, worse, engine rebuilds. When I worked for Toyota, these were the cars the wealthy folk would bring in and they would pay for the engine rebuilds every 80,000 miles.

    >it’s 20 years old so expect plastic and rubber parts to be on their way out
the dashboards and door cars melt under the sun's heat unless they were updated with the revised parts. Some suspension bushings probably need replaced, but that's rare for these.

not fun, reasonably reliable and particularly reliable for its age

Had a 2010 IS350 and it was mostly 'wear items' like brake pads, new battery, wiper blades and other minor bits and pieces. But it was babied, garaged and I maintained it very regularly so it was kept in really good condition. There was a recall on the airbags, the fuel pressure sensor mounting for corrosion and the boll torque on the cam sprockets to make sure the VVT didn't fail.
Oh, that time the accelerator pedal got stuck under floor mats! Which a big deal was made of, but I still can't figure out how the fuck it happened and how someone managed to do it, but apparently they did.

If there's one thing I did find was the Lexus dealers always seemed to be pretty good to deal with, parts aren't very expensive but its an older car now so be prepared to go through the odd worn out silicone tubes, brake resurfacing, corroded electrical connectors, coolant flushes and suspension replacements. Otherwise there's usually no weird ass rattles or major engine drama unless someone has done something super retarded.

    >Fun
Eh, they are alright I guess.
    >Reliability
    Pretty solid cars.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one under 200K miles assuming the owner has maintenance records.

The gen 3 are the exact same car so those can also be a ok purchase.
ISF and is500 have a sweet V8, but auto only and are 2x the price of the IS350/GS350
With these IS cars, you sacrifice fun and performance, for reliability.
I know guys with gen 2s above 400,000 miles.

    >GDI engine design
there's two types that they have, the 'D4' ones have direct injection only, but the 'D4-S' ones have both direct and port injectors so you needn't worry about intake carbon buildup.
    >>29137358
what engine code does the one you're looking at have?
    >>
    >>29137515
    >>29137560
There are no direct injection only 2GR V6s with the IS/RC/GS 300/350.
    It's either port injection only,
Or Di+Port injection in the 2GR FSE or FKS

    .t own a 2015 is350
    Bitches think it's "responsible" looking
    >>
    >>29137583
the FSE is the one i'm talking about - that is direct injection only. FKS is port + direct.
As far as I'm aware, FSE engines were only sold in japan/asia.
    >>
    >>29137684
Nah, FSE have port and Di.
My is350 has a FSE. 07-17 had it.
Not that it matters much. The FSE and FKS are like 80% identical
The FKS was just a move to be slightly more smog efficient.
    >>
    >>29137699
wait you're right - toyota did some fucky shit. the 2gr-fse has port + direct. but the 4gr-fse has direct only. but that engine was only available in jdm models
    >>
    >>29137701
The turbo 4 Di Lexus engines are trash.
They carbon faul faster than older VWs do.
    >>
    >>29137358
    >is this fun
no, it's a compact luxury car
    >reliable car
    yes
    >>
It does not have the power to weight required to have fun.
