    hypothetical 2 car solution
    you get:
    >a lighter NC with more power and rotary noises
    >a more reliable, but still kinda sporty and quirky 4 door daily
    >>
Or you could just skip those pieces of shit and LS swap both.
    >>
A turbo 2.0 skyactivG could achieve 1:1 power to weight ratio for FD3S, but not the RX8.The 8 is simply too heavy, it actually does require a s cyl or V8 solution.

I'd be considering a 2.5 swap for the Rx-8 for a bit of extra torque.
    >>
    >>29137422
There's like 100kg difference between an FD and an RX8
    >>

I've been in a few NC Miatas with 2.5L swaps.
They are pretty fast for a fairly simple swap.
Hitting around 128mph on the straight, at my local track.
Stock power NC hit 115mph if they are lucky.

yes, 100kg is a lot. And it's more like 150kg or more because the FD is easy to drop weight off of and most models were fairly stripped down, while a lot of RX-8s had additional options (leather seats, navigation, etc.) that added an extra ~50kgs over the lightest versions that are rarer.

Man shut the FUCK up you faggot wrenchlet

He has a lot of good points.
    Heaviest FD is around 2700+lbs
    The 8 starts at 3000lbs
Assuming you aren't reducing the drivability and make your ride miserable, reducing 100lbs ish for a car of this size is where I would draw the line for deminish return.
Remember, modifying an oem car means a huge portion of that weight reduction comes from unsprung weight and rotating mass. As you are stripping weight, you are also improving handling.
So badically, the FD3S will most likely gain beyond 1:1 power to weight ratio from a turbo 2.0 skyactivG, and your best case for a fully stripped down RX-8 could barely hit that 1:1.
Now if we take the NC engine, we will have more options to get high power as the internals are forged and Mazda expects the tuners to go ape shit on that engine.

don't (You) me you stupid ricer. Everyone selected those options for the rx-8 because it was built to appeal to a wider audience.
    Lightest stock FD is ~1230kg / 2711lbs.
Lightest stock RX-8 is supposedly 1309kg / 2880lbs but I owned that model and it always felt much heavier than FDs to me (I've owned a base model 6 speed 2004, late mode R3, and multiple FDs). The RX-8s feel and are fat by comparison.
