Nissan's intended Lexus fighter ended up not quite cutting the muster and don't remember ever seeing one IRL.
I unironically love all early 1990s Japanese luxury barges and think they are future classics and perfect dailies
>>29137311The ads tried to market it in an overly Japanese way and forgetting that Americans wanted to see the thing splashing through mud as cowboy chords play.
>>29137322acura and lexus stayed good till ~2016 tbqh smdh my damn head
>>29137311the US model Q45 also didn't offer a lot of the more interesting options you could get in Japan
>>29137311The only one i saw irl was in a salvage yard
>>29137311there's some docu videos about the Q45 on Youtube but no Youtubers actually have a video of one or own one apparently
>>29137311i doubt they sold more than a few thousand a year in North America
>>29137311as he said, too understated and too Japanese. even the commercials would show trees and play soft music with the idea that the Q45 would help you achieve harmony and enlightenment which wasn't what Americans went for. the car also didn't have enough fake woodgrain or whatnot, it looked remarkably Taurus-like.
>>29137381IDK, Japan has plenty of tacky luxury cars for people with bad taste. The Q45 was more like a chill old money kind of ride.
>>29137311I get the idea behind going with the quirky 'aero' design but I always thought the President front end looked massively better and likely would've sold better as well.It was a few decades early on the grille-less design when the only other cars rocking it were shit like a few Fords whereas all competing luxury cars still had grilles and more chrome
every 90s Lexus product was always fairly abundant back then but you never really saw any Infinitis
>>29137322I like them too but if they were going to be classics they would be rn. I think only the LS400 has really obtained cult status the the point that it's price has appreciably gone up from the bottom of the depreciation curve. I'm not counting meme cars like the Century that were hyped bc le JDM.
>>29137479think like the Mazda 929/Millenia. those have never really been considered classics either. the LS400 actually sold and had some prestige instead of being a quirky novelty.
>>29137483The LS400 avoided being too Japanese, it felt Mercedes-like. Those others didn't entirely "get" the US premium car market, they did various oddball stuff only weebs could appreciate.
not putting woodgrain in the Q45 was definitely a mistake. Americans going back to the 70s had become convinced that that shit was upscale and absolutely necessary in a premium car.
I used to own one. Fun car and all the z32 suspension fits it. I had the whole powertrix catalog on this car after this picture was taken.
>>29137311It's passing muster you illiterate freak
