When will /o/ understand this fact? Auto tragic are only faster if all you care about is 0-60 times.Every single record was set in a manual because auto tragic can not predict what gear you need to be in on the touge. Is /o/ really so gay that it only cares about 0-60 in 2026? Eww
>>29136700I like manual but there's a reason why F1 has flappy paddles
>>29136708Because its faster than automatic? Next you will tell me motorcycles are autotragic because they have sequential manual gearboxes.
>>29136700>auto tragic can not predict what gear you need to be in on the touge. have you heard of paddle shifters? Zf8? Pdk? Dsg? We started figuring out this technology in the 90s. Even the shitty first gen Ferrari F1 boxes were faster shifter. Im all for making appeals to manuals being goated but being "faster" is not one of them
If it's automatic you're not even driving
Will I regret buying an automatic Corvette?
>>29136746Depends>do you like automatic?>do you like Corvette?
>>29136711F1 cars would be faster if they could use CVTs but they're banned by the regulations. That's the only reason they aren't using them.
>>29136757>F1 cars would be faster if they could use gearboxes thar are only used in compact sedans and crossovers because they would break if someone put them in anything more powerful
>>29136748Understood.
>>29136757Cvt's are notoriously weak and would also necessitate oil coolers of their own just to work at all
>>29136700Reason why we're having discussion on AT vs MT isn't because of objective MT pros and cons, but because there are some very weird people who just like having a stick at the side to move it in all directions during driving while also having to use left feet. Truth is that AT + paddles for these niche situations when you think you know better, is just better. Always.
>>29136708What does that have to do with automatics
>>29136774I really don't think so. It doesn't so anything for me at all. It's heavier and less robust than it's manual counterpart. It's less efficient than it's manual counterpart. It requires more maintenance than it's manual counterpart. It's more expensive than it's manual counterpart
>>29136774I like having a clutch pedal when I need to go like 2 meters forward at 5 kph. Generally speaking I feel scared while driving auto cause I feel like I have no control over a 2 ton beast. Also my favorite moments when driving are overtaking and engine braking. Overtaking in manual is fun because you need to upshift from 2 to 3 really fast and engine braking is fun because you need to choose perfect moment to downshift several times to stop your car exactly where you want to.
>>29136786>pretending to be retarded
I simply do not care about any of this.I drive manual H pattern cars because operating the clutch and lever is part of what I enjoy about driving. You could make the best auto in the world which is better in every way and uses AI or brainwave scanners or something to know what you're going to do and chooses what gear to downshift perfectly into ahead of time or whatever..... but I would still prefer to operate the drivetrain myself because hitting a crisp hee-toe downshift is like playing a sweet riff on guiter and I enjoy doing it.
>>29136700>auto tragic can not predict what gear you need to be in on the touge. My Honda Fit can. Maybe you were driving wrong automatics?
>>29136776>heavier and less robust>less efficientThat's cope speaking through you. What matters for you is that>It's more expensiveIf you want the fastest and the best car, you won't get it with MT. There are very few super/hypercars left with MT, not because their producers don't want their clients to have the good stuff, but because AT + paddles is objectively better. From time to time you could (if you have this kind of money) get something new with MT but these cars are pure curiosity for /o/nanists who got lucky with crypto. This thing scales: AT + paddles for your regular dd will be better than regular shitbox MT, just like overpriced AT + paddles for some Bugatti will be better than top of the line MT. If you're putting your heart into your car, you could put some extra $ as well to maintain AT, instead of living in copium.
>>29136773Reason why we're having discussion on AT vs MT isn't because of objective MT pros and cons, but because some carlets are unfortunate enough to be driving automatic transmission vehicles and feel the need to cope about itif they were driving a manual transmission car than there wouldn't be a single post arguing slushboxes in favor of manuals at all ever
>>29136774>>29136795aka sour grapes
>>29136786>EEK! Le CAR is moving when I step off the brake!!Legitimate fear, but I got over this within about 5 minutes when I was learning to drive (auto). It's pretty retarded if you still have it.>>29136791>decide I want to floor it>put foot down>car cranks in 4th until it gets that I really do want speed>finally downshifts
>>29136792All this.Basically, in modern racing, the driver himself became the bottleneck. It's faster to click + and enjoy instant upshift than making some weird-ass dance with your feet and hand that takes 500% more time execute.
>>29136797Fit automatic doesn't have gay modern transmission adaptations, it chooses gear purely based on current speed and gas pedal position. It's very easy to learn how to make it do exactly what you want.
>>29136795>>29136774Objective reality is unimportant. People are not material beings. Doing what is materially 100% efficient is usually boring as hell. Do what is fun and objectively worse.Yes I still cope, when I like X, and some gay thing Y is "better", that actually X is better, but that's a pretense and if X is only like 20% worse, and not boring and gay, then damn the logic and go have fun.
>>29136800The two cars I drive most are autos, one from 98 and one 2010, and they both do exactly that. The 2010 is maybe a little worse at it.I don't see how any car CAN 100% do as you want though. To shift the moment you pour the sauce, it has to guess what you want in the future. Or it'd have to shift all over the place the instant your foot does anything.
>>29136800>Honda Fit>Parallel Shaft automatic transmissionSo the bast automatic is the manual in disguise? Did I hear it right?
>>29136798Basically, in modern racing, the driver himself became the bottleneck. It's faster to have a computer in the car calculating the perfect angles to attack corners and speed within milliseconds that can do all the steering and throttle application than making some weird-ass dance with your feet and hands that takes 500% more time execute.
>>29136700>manual is fasterI'm sure you think "paddle gear switch" is "manual?"
>>29136792Automatic with pedals is just an automatic that pretends to let you drive it sometimes if you want and conditions are right. There are few exceptions to this, like bmw's, which is an automated manual transmission rather than an automatic
>>29136798Race cars have sequential dog boxes. Manual synchromesh transmissions could never compete with that even if it was completely automated. Automatics by way of torque converters or cvt are even more so
>>29136711A computer will shift faster than any human ever could
>>29136831You betray your ignorance. What the conputer is doing is telling the transmission to shift. That's not the slow part. The slow part is the actual shifting of the transmission itself. Automatics do this very slowly conpared to even manual synchromesh transmissions
>>29136837You betray your ignorance. It’s more about the total time of a gear shift rather breaking it down by each phase. A modern dual clutch will shift about 5x faster than any human ever could on a synchro mesh gearbox. You’re not shifting gears in a 10th of a second, but automatics are.
>>29136843And how many cars actually have a peoper dual clutch?
>>29136843>tfw manually moving the lever ahead of time so the instantaneous shift can arrive exactly when intended manual chads stay winning
>>29136847My car does, as do the last few that I bought, they seem like a pretty common option these days. Don’t tell me you’re already moving the goalpost from>manuals are fasterto>aktually dual clutches are really rarebecause that’s really pathetic.
>>29136849Ok. Then you have a particular automatic that is faster than a manual. I don't know why you think this is something to brag about
>>29136850No one is bragging, just disabusing you of the notion that manuals are faster, which they clearly aren’t. If you’re a pro race driver, you can MAYBE shift a racing gearbox as fast as a modern slush box if you’re supernaturally gifted. Bad Automatics beat manuals 99 times out of 100 and good ones do it 100 times out of 100. Just go with manuals are more fun, that’s a much better argument.
>>29136855>bad automatics best manualsThey don't, though. Good automatics beat manuals, but your average torque converter grocery getter is noticably slower than a synchromesh. Tell me you've actually driven a manual car for any length of time so I can at least take you seriously on this matter
>>29136855>>29136859They also havw fewer speeds, are still somehow bigger, weigh more, take up more space and are less robust for the trouble
>>29136827>Automatic blah blah blah...And whatever arguments you can make up against AT + paddles, it still works better and faster than MT. If Bugatti Tourbillon could ever go 0-100 in 1.9sec with MT instead of going in just 2sec with 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, then engineers working at Bugatti would go that way. Same with every other hypercar or supercar. Or actually even with regular shitboxes, considering drivers who ride them. You think you're faster with MT because you need to do all the extra work with your left leg and right arm and hand and it actually takes you more time than you think it does. You like doing that stuff, then good for you, but don't say it makes your car faster or better by any objective measure.
>>29136714technically cars have had selectable-gear automatics since the '60s
>>29136879>If Bugatti Tourbillon could ever go 0-100 in 1.9sec with MT instead of going in just 2sec with 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, then engineers working at Bugatti would go that way0-100 would still be 2 s in a manual Bugatti because this car has top speed of 150 kph in first gear
>>29136859That’s such a disingenuous argument. If you care about shifting fast, you’re not comparing the autotragic from a grocery getter to a modern synchromesh box, you’re comparing a performance oriented automatic, which are all faster than manuals. Yeah dude, a pro racing driver can shift a synchromesh faster than an old 4-speed auto from the 90’s, but that’s not what you’re actually getting if you buy an automatic in a performance car today. My grocery getter with a DCT shifts way faster than my old manual 370z, which had a synchro mesh gearbox. The automatic in my dad’s new corvette shifts way faster than I ever could in my own manual. Automatics are faster.
>>29136918But we're not, even old synchromeshes do this
>>29136921I’ll give you another chance to reread that if you want.
>>29136837>Automatics do this very slowly conpared to even manual synchromesh transmissionsare you retarded? modern slushboxes shift in miliseconds, dcts preselect the gear and then shift instantaneos
>>29136700And yet manual motorcycles are faster than automatic cars, curious...
Automatics are superior in low traction environments like mud because there is no power delay between gear shifts.Of course the people arguing for manuals are unaware of this because theyre either poor euros driving around their parents peugot and think "offroading" is moving a caravan from the parking spot at home to the parking lot at a campground or theyre just a basement dweller who watched Fast&Furious too many times.
>>29136708>flappy paddlesYou mean a manual with a non-standard input method? What do you think those paddles do?
this retard unironically believes a f1 gearbox is comparable to his 6 speed shitbox gearbox
>>29137177Automatic is better in generalAnd yet I still don't like it
>>29136791My mustang would destroy your Honda gayfaglord on the touge as i would see it as pedestrians and run into it
