Im planning to buy a R32 GTR in Japan next year, but instead of shipping it back to Germany I am planning to drive it home all the way by myself. My plan currently is driving it via China, (Kyrgyzstan), Kazakhstan, ferry it across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan in order to bypass Russia (ig no explanation needed why) then either to Turkey via Armenian Karabakh or via Georgia, then into Europe by either Transylvania or via West Balkans. Now the hot questions:A.Registration formalities:1.Which country is responsible for issuing the export/import license? Country of origin (Japan) or country of destination (Germany). How long will the export license stay valid? 2.Will China accept temporary license plates of either country for transit? China is usually notorious for requiring temporary registration with „tourist plates“. Will they also issue such plates for temporary registered cars?B.Travel Route:1. Which exit strategy for China? Xinjiang via Khorgas (the usual freight corridor exit point), or Tarim Basin via Torugart Pass or Nura Crossing into Kyrgyzstan?2. Azerbijan entry: Is the Azerbaijani border open for foreign vehicles? They closed it in 2020 bc of Covid but have they opened it ever since. Bc if not I might have a problem (Russia transit is unsafe rn bc of fuel shortages and drone strikes along the Russian controlled Caspian coast)3. Azerbaijan exit strategy: Is it safe enough to transit into Turkey via the Kharabakh and are the border crossings open? Or shall I better bypass via Georgia?4.Europe route: Via the West Balkans or via Transylvania? Both are culturally rich places but I cannot decide which route yetFor the whole B chapter: Which places along the whole route do you recommend visiting? The car will be overhauled mechanically prior to departure. Smaller repairs can be done by myself. I’ll buy the most necessary repair tools in one of those big box auto parts stores shrouded in legends by JDM enthusiasts like UP Garage.
go home chatgpt, you're drunk
>>29135243I wrote this without AI help btw. Thanks for the helpful feedback (not)
Idk anonie, but I wish u luck
>>29135253Listen dipshit, it's a car trip but not only are you on the wrong board for such a question, I'd honestly say you're on the wrong website. What you're doing is pretty far out of the ordinary so you're not going to find all your answers in one place. It's a bad sign in terms of the intelligence required to complete such a trip without major incident that you're taking this approach.Good luck, you're gonna need it.
>>29135375Honestly, fuck you.I know what I’m doing you imbecile nigger fuck. Hence I know question A1 has resolved itself by now for example: country of origin issues the plates during the whole trip.I’m about to fulfill a dream of my life and the only emotion I see here is „fuck you“. Reeks of misery this place. And I thought the most weeaboo-adjacent car community would help with such a weeb coded car trip. But no. Seriously FUCK YOU.Get a rope and tie a noose, you will need it.
>>29135401if you're not a fag and actually going through with this, do post pics/updates. i will be very interested in the travel blog that results
>>29135241This is a horrible idea for so many reasons. "Mechanical overhaul" as in a full engine rebuild, new gearbox, diffs, axles etc? It's a 30+ year old car, simply making sure there's no oil/coolant leaks before you go isn't good enough to make sure it can handle the entire trip. You'll also be driving through remote areas where the road conditions are atrocious and if you need a part you'll be waiting a month potentially for delivery.
>>29135241It’s a kind of complicated 30 year old car. Stuffs’ gonna break and I doubt a Kyrgyzstani dude is gonna be able to help you fix it on the side of road when something breaks. Overnight parts from Germany aren’t a thing in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Eurasia. Driving on some godforsaken corrugated dirt road in a gtr would be a painful exercise for anyone with a modicum of mechanical sympathy. I would only do a trip like this in one of those barebones landcroozers that thirdies drive and have parts for.
honestly op, absolute ass ideaare you going to buy the r32 unseen? It will most likely need so many repairs.... there are these guys that went to japan to buy some sick jay dee emmm and to do a tour of japan, and it went pretty bad. channel is "bucket" I thinkand you totally miss the point that the car has to be able to actually make the trip "mechanical overhaul" kek
What country do you think you'll be car jacked and murdered anon?
>>29135241So you want to basically do the Peking-Paris rally in an unseen r32? A race that requires extreme preparation, tough cars and deep experience of endurance rallies? For most of it there's no roads, fuel or anywhere to stay. I doubt you'll even get into China with an R32. You should try planning your route through Turkmenistan, though, that would be fun.
>>29135589No. The car will not be bought unseen. I have a fixer (Uni friend who returned home) who will scout out suitable candidiates. And before I close the deal I’ll fly to JP in person to check out the final candidates… it’s gonna take some prep work but I’m willing to do so.>>29135419I’ll seek out a car that’s been well kept and likely may manage the trip without major overhaul. Once the car is in Europe it’ll receive a major overhaul. As in Omori Factory Restored Car tier without actually paying 350+k for their crazy expensive labor>>29135577Atessa will be checked in Japan that’s for sure. It’s the only thing I’m really worried about because these make alotta trouble regardless of age. Everything else I have enough confidence in once it’s checked and greenlit.>>29135577>>29135607There’s a Guy called Klaus von Deylen that made the same trip in the reverse direction in a Ro80. The car also didn’t break down.https://www.kfz-betrieb.vogel.de/weltreise-wankeln-bis-nach-japan-a-897594/If a Ro can do it, I’m sure a car with an iron block of an engine might as well. As mentioned above, it won’t be bought unseen. Also BRI road projects made this trip wayy more feasible than say 15 years ago. The chinks put down asphalt like crazy on those corridors even in the Stan countries.
I'm glad this thread exists as I had this crackpot idea before. Seems like importation is way cheaper in the longrun.
>>29135691Im not really thinking about costs, since it’s for the adventures sake. But if you’re based in the Americas or Oceania there’s no way around shipping
>>29135241A foolish but bold idea.Especially when I recall just how much car salespeople and mechanics can deceive people.
>>29135689It's one thing to pick oir a good example and make sure everything is okay. But once it's driving 8 hours a day through a desert anything can happen.
>>29135791Upgrading the cooling prior to departure is a must, obviously.>>29135689Also I must add that HICAS will also be definitely serviced if hasn’t been removed.
>>29136109*HICAS will also be serviced prior to departure
>>29135589I have yet to see a westerner buy a car in Japan and not get ripped off. Even Noriyaro, who lives in Japan, speaks Japanese and has Japanese friends, buys four wheeled shit heaps.
Have you done anything similar to this before? People don't just jump straight into driving a car across the world.
