    Are E-VTOLs the future?
    >>
No, that's just a heli with four times decapitation power
    >>
If we can free ourselves from the FAA tyranny
    >>

I think that things might qualify as a super light. As in no FAA clearance or pilots license required.
    >>
    >>29134716
    haha that's a good one
now I want you write down and call this number as soon as you land.

    >no pilot's license required
ok im never leaving my house
    >>
    >>29134782
probably not, superlights are stuff like paramotors and some weird balsa gliders with single engines slapped on. 4x rotors with battery weight will absolutely be over the limit with just the drive line
    >>
    >>29134581
this might be a stupid question but why don;t they just make an electric helicopter ?
why something like this that cannot auto rotate ?
    >>
    >>29135258
Batteries are too heavy for electric choppers.
    >>
    >>29135258
autorotation is a meme, and it's unlikely that more than one motor will fail. 3/4 motors functioning is still enough to make a safe emergency landing and will be workable with a software failover
    >>
    >>29134581
why not just add wings at that point? it's probably flying decent distances and it's probably nice to have a backup way to stay airborne in case of a power failure. this thing looks like a cope flying car. they paint the huge rotor mounting structure black and paint the rotors black to try and draw your eye away from the sheer ugliness. you might not need all that cope if it just had wings and identified as a vtol airplane.

    >unlikely that more than one motor will fail
Battery on fire perhaps will bring all motors down?
    >>
    >>29135341
that could happen, though I think it's unlikely that there would be a single battery pack like you see on hobby drones. there would probably be some batteries stuffed into the wings, some underneath the passenger compartment, and some behind the passenger compartment

It's called an ultralight, and it needs to be under 254 lb. You can open up the Federal Aviation Regulations to part 103 if you want to know more.

    >>29134581
Hard to say. Probably not. For one, general aviation basically requires the balls to ride a motorcycle but the intelligence to not be a an idiot, so that should give you an idea of how many people are capable of it anyway. Two, powered flight is incredibly energy intensive. Helicopters even more so. If your commute is short enough for this to work, you probably live in towered airspace and the system as built absolutely cannot handle 200 thrillseekers commuting at the same time.

    >>29135258
If the blades have adjustable pitch, you can autorotate.
    >>29135261
Autorotation is such a meme that virtually every helicopter ever built is perfectly capable of it and is a regular part of training. Shut the fuck up.

    >>29135314
If you're serious about flying to work, a powered parachute is probably the best option. Finding a good spot to take off or land is the hardest part, and in an engine failure scenario, you're already in a deployed parachute. In any case, here's a guy that does. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcBzzC_BWdM/?rpxt=MXZxd2c1YXhrN3B4MA==

If anybody else has questions about general aviation I'll check this thread after I'm done in the gym

don't worry, they'll come crashing into your house.

most people are kinda stupid and think a drone is magic future tech rather than just a more agile RC helicopter. so there's a fad of trying to drone-ify technology to make it seem more futuristic.

the drone with 4x prop propably needs a lot less horsepower to vtol than a helicopter and large diameter props suck in general.
Also, this thing can be controlled by 8 escs and a 10$ chip, no hydraulics for the swash plate

    Why the liveleak blades
    >>
    >>29136224
It's Chinese, the liveleak blades are a feature
    >>
    >>29134716
Man, as much as I have my own issues with the FAA as a private pilot and A&P mechanic, I don't think I can properly convey in words just how much even a few thousand of these around one airport would utterly buttfuck every aspect of flying. ATC are already beyond overworked, they already have to be on alert for dipshits with ego malfunctions in puddlejumpers, morons in choppers doing unlicensed sky tours, private airline king airs that take NOTAMs as suggestions, and actual airliners, then you add in these fucking death eggs just puttering around in the sky acting as sky mines ready to be missed on radar and eaten by a turbofan, turning a 757 Into a crater.

What do you mean? It works, you train it all the time, and every certified rotorcraft can do it
