Why do people hate the C8 so much? I think they're pretty cool. I think the "exotic" owners at butthurt that their $500,000 car doesn't offer an exclusive experience anymore, and I think average people are angry that the top of the line corvette is now 250k. I kinda get it, but isn't the C8 a really good middle ground?
    >>
    >>29134275
It's ugly and the engine is in the wrong place
    >>
Who are you referring to as people and they?
I like the C8 except for the electric door handle and software shit. As a car, anytime a company deep dicks the exotic market, I celebrate.
    >>
    >>29134275
The only people that hate the ca Corvette are coping super car manufacturers whose 500,000 dollar one off cars are getting absolutely clowned on by a car you can buy for $74,000.

Well them and the mentally retarded.

    >>29134279
    >Rear mid engine
There's literally not a better place for it unless you have a perspective of practicality in which case it goes front mid.
    Kys retard
    >>
    >>29134287
Corvette engines are supposed to be in the front so you're wrong
    >>
    >>29134275
    1) It copied Lamborghini's design language.
    2) The Corvette is a front engine car. If you move the engine to the rear, you need to give the car a new name.

There's no need for ESL rage. Corvette is a front engine car and I simply will never change my mind
    >>
Didn't the guy who designed the Corvette wanted a mid engine layout but didn't get the green light for it?
But either way, every generation of Corvette is about packing the most cutting edge engineering and tech GM has to pursuit the highest possible performace in a realistic production car. I think the C8 did just that, so did every other generation.

Pretty starts out with a mid-engine design and then eventually because of practicality reasons it gets thrown in the front.

    Even Dodge Viper
    >>
    >make it look weird so it can have a trunk for boomers
    >boomers still walk into the showroom, try to fit ALL their golf clubs in, and get mad
Kind of sums up the car. It's trying to be a super fast tryhard sports car and a boomer luxury car at the same time and it does as well as you could ask for functionally but it becomes slightly uncool in the process. Like why does a 2 seat MR car with an NA engine weigh 3600lbs like a 2+2 sedan platform Camaro with roughly the same engine, what was the point

let's not forget the first car ever made, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, was also rear-engined.
FR cars are actually the aberration, however the benefits of a balanced chassis and ease of maintrenace overcome RR's packaging and performance benefits.

FF cars are just RR cars with oppositional defiant autism

The C8 is peak Corvette, alongside the C2. C2 was peak front engine beauty, C8 is the reinvention of the car built to embarrass rich assholes.
    >>
    >>29134275
I don't like it as a Corvette, but I do like it as an American sports car. I think they should have kept the Corvette as a front engine vehicle, focused on lightness and suspension, and then called what's now the C8 a Zora instead.
I also think they should have made the hybrid models as Cadillacs, since the weight penalty and move away from rwd purism would have opened the door for more luxurious appointments and Cadillac was ramping up its own racing programs. Give them a XLR again.
    >>
    >>29134275
Ugly front, shit proportions of the roofline, rear feels too short when ccompared to the front, should be lower and sleeker
Chevy shouldve copied caddilac cien 1-1
    >>
    >>29134437
flying buttresses would have been interesting
    >>
    >>29134432
    If they do exactly that
then they either have to kill the Corvette brand for Zora
    Or
They need to spend extra money to figure how to modify the chassis and interior to move the engine from mid to front, AND have two products competing in the same segment. The chassis will be compromised if its designed to take two different engine layouts. Two different chassis will either make the risky halo car investment more risky, or both of those vehicles will see a massive price hike.
    >>
    >>29134275
Nobody in real life hates the C8. You are letting online autists and envious poorfags poison your mind.
Unless you're talking about taking the engine out, that part fucking blows
    >>
I haven't heard of anyone hating the C8, it's just when a vehicle is too expensive nobody cares about it because nobody drives it
    >>
    >>29134275
I don't hate it except for being sleepy paddle only. Such a shame.
    >>
    >>29134726
I see more C8s than I see Miatas of any generation combined. And this is from someone actively looking for Miatas on the road.
    >>
    >>29134275
The rear half is ugly and no manual option. Other than that, it's alright.
    >>
    >>29134275
It's just very trite and trend chasing. It's striking, but not in a way that could be considered timeless or special. The design looked outdated when it came out even, since it's just '2010's jagged supercar' verbatim. The only remotely cool thing about them is that you see them more often than those supercars, but that's not really a compliment.

Cadillac makes great cars now but I just cant get into their design language, its just so bad. How do you make such a great car like the ATS-V and make it look like shit lmao

Guess its just a taste thing?
For the corvette, C5 and C6 are peak corvette design. Beautiful car inside and out.

I agree. I also don't really like the blackwing. My issue with the blackwing is that it's too damn small and too damn big at the same time. As a gran coupe it would have been better; it's roughly the size of the M8 Gran Coupe, but has less backseat headroom. Amazing engine and super fun to drive, but the back seats add a lot of weight only to be miserable for anyone over 5'8"

the base 911 carrera starts at 137,000 before a single option, and it's still a dual clutch. you can buy a c8 z06, spend thousands getting it paint corrected and wrapped/protected, and still have money left over to stuff in the glove compartment of your flat plane V8 targa top sports car

I think that most of the negativity is coming from people who feel that switching from FR to MR is a betrayal of the model's heritage.

Well... the negativity that's aimed specifically at the C8, that is. There are also those people hating on corvettes in general, regardless of what gen they are, for whatever reason. But that's not new.

Best performance per dollar machine on paper, by a far margin. I'm a hyper-Jew extreme utilitarian miser cheapass so I've been tempted.

But the design is dogshit. Not only the ugly looks, incoherent design front vs rear, outdated Transformers looks, but also functionality wise. The doors open too wide, and the sharp triangle on the door juts out even farther, so it can't be reasonably paired with a 1-car garage.

I have to buy a house with a 3-car garage just to be able to drive the car and open the door without hitting something. And I'm a 130lb sticklet.

The bones are alright, but I prefer FR layout burnout machine hoonmobile nigger-chariot.

no ZR1x even fully optioned costed anywhere close to half a million.
    >>
    >>29135301
The transmission in the C8 is sorta shitty. Feels like a ZF 8 unless unless you manually shift it with the paddles.
    >>
    >>29134275
I've always thought it has an ugly exterior design. They rushed the process of designing it and went straight to adding tacky details to it. It's not like American car companies can't make good looking supercars. Look at the Ford GT. It's perfect. Saleen S7 is great too.

It's very disproportionate. And they could have made it much less so, judging by the internal structure.

I had a period where I was renting cars every couple of weeks. Long story.

Whenever I got my hands on the C8, I immediately vibed with it. I'd slide behind the wheel of a random one, and it immediately felt right.

I've never vibed with a car on that level before or since. I think I have to own one at some point. Like I'm destined to it. Like the universe wants it to be mine.

Sure, a fully optioned ZR1X may have an MSRP of like $275k or so, but that's not how much you're going to pay if you actually try to buy one. You try to buy one new and you're going to be shelling out at least $400K if not more with dealer markups. Even used ones are going for $350K and higher.
