    >Chinese automakers outsold Japanese rivals in Europe for the first time over a full quarter, underscoring how quickly brands like BYD Co. and Chery Automobile Co. are gaining ground in the region.
    >Registrations of Chinese-branded cars roughly doubled from a year earlier in the three months through September to make up 12.7% of total sales across the region, led by hybrids, according to market researcher Dataforce. That’s put them ahead of Japanese manufacturers including Toyota Motor Corp. at 11.9%.
    >While European manufacturers like Volkswagen AG and Renault SA still dominate the region, the speed of China’s surge has been a surprise. Five years ago, Chinese brands accounted for barely 1% of European sales. Japan’s automakers, by contrast, have spent decades building their position in Europe. Toyota has sold cars in the region since 1963 and now operates factories across the continent, while Nissan Motor Co. has produced vehicles at its Sunderland plant in the UK since 1986.

Not surprised. Toyota is the only Japanese brand that has their shit together. Most Hondas right now are leaving the factory with a major engine defect (head gaskets -acking). Subaru and Mazda are way behind on hybrid/ev tech. Nissan is lol, but they actually are in a position to recover if they're smart about it.

    Nissan is rebadged Renault.
I would have checked out the Honda Super N but so far it's left hand only.

The Chinese are scary because this isn’t even their final form — they’re just getting started.

Besides the Tundra stuff, that's way above average by 2026 standards.

Thats cute ping ping. Now get back to making iPhone at the temu factory. Remember, there's nets to catch you when you try again.

Chinese can't build themselves out of a brown paper bag without a total failure. That's why their economy is doing so bad (they only do low qualilty, high volume goods nothing more nothing less)

Honda's almost nonexistent in parts of Europe anyway. The prices are just crazy for what they offer. 50k for an FWD hybrid compact crossover, anyone?
I mean, some Audis probably cost that much once you option them with ultra luxury premium options like heated seats and cruise control, but at least those have a dealer network that can keep them on the road. Hondas in Europe are like buying a rare Euro car in the US: you'll end up paying way more than you should, and good luck finding anyone who can service the thing.

Oh and they did have the e:Ny1 EV that they quietly dropped from many markets since they couldn't find anyone who'd want to buy it.

Service isn't that bad but dealerships are rare. My next Honda repair shop is 15km away but if I wanted to check out a new Honda I'd have to travel 50km.

Why are euro manufacturers so deathly afraid of the Chinese? The Chinese seem to be unable to make a desirable car to save their lives.
Even if we assume they're well-engineered, their entire value proposition is that they offer a bit better interior and more features for slightly less money. They do that by cutting corners, or R&D, or accepting lower margins. By R&D I mean things like chassis and engine tuning, and tricks that make a car drive well. This results in endless slop econoboxes with fancy interiors, but once you move beyond the basics, they kinda don't really offer anything.

So their entire value proposition is 'it's like brand X but less money', and the only people interested in that are ones who don't want to spend on cars, and sitting in a Chinese car they'll never figure out what they're missing out on.

Btw, large segments of the car industry suffer from this exact issue, not just in China, but it seems that China got to the finish line first and its the only kind of car they make. Non-Chinese manufacturers also tried this strategy, and they found out nobody wanted their bland shit.

Never seen a chinese car in Europe. Who the fuck is buying these death traps?

they actually do it through what would be considered ludicrous levels of vertical integration in Europe and abusing the support and largess of their government

What year do you live in? There are no desirable cars nowadays and people only care about money.

Chinese numbers are bullshit. Not saying they aren't a top seller but their literal in print number is bound to be BS.
