Where were you when BMW made the perfect car for exactly one year(or so)? I wasn't even born yet>No vanos>No drive by wire cancer>Pure, mechanical straight 6 enjoymentSadly most of them have rusted out already
>>29132995>I wasn't even born yetStopped reading right there.
>>29132995>muh heckin' pure mechanical car!>Controlled by a computer>Electronic fuel injection>Electronic fuel pump>Electronic gauges>Electronic windows>Electronic seats>Electronic dampersYou wouldn't know mechnical if it spread your ass cheeks and dove 12 inches deep
>>29133215>Controlled by a computerDuh, something has to maintain air/fuel ratios>Electronic fuel injectionThis is a good thing>Electronic fuel pumpDebatable, I lean more onto electronic>Electronic gauges>Electronic windows>Electronic seats>Electronic dampersLiterally who cares. Also some of them could've been opted for manual use
>>29132995Bmws are trash, unless you're leasing the newest one you are a fool.
>>29133286Don't you yanks have diesel BMWs? Because those for sure can go awfully far without refueling, part of the reason they're so popular as fleet vehicles in Europe.
>>29132995I was so close to buying this 360k E34, I just didnt have the space or the money to commit at the time. Luckily he still hasnt sold it and decided to keep it for now.
>>29132995Listen, I absolutely love these cars and while they're extremely analog by today's standards they're absolutely well into electrify everything era. I personally love it since it's all very simple electronics and easy to work on but calling it mechanical is straight up wrong. That being said, the me20b25 will forever be my favorite engine.
>>29132998I started reading there
>>29132995Dawg, I was 3 years old.
>>29133405>timing belt>single camI mean the non vanos m50 is just a better version of the m20 but yeah it's great too
>>29133432Forgot to specify: timing belt on an interference engineTiming belt on a non interference is fine
>>29133432Meh, belt is simple and single cam is fine. No shade on the M50. I just like the ridiculous simplicity of the m20.
>>29133432>>29133434correct both counts. Alloy block 2.8 is the way.
>>29132995too bad they couldn't make something you can stand looking at though
>>29133745OP's looks alright though
>>29132995Fundamentally it’s been pretty good but man the 30+ year old plastic parts are a pain in the ass. Had to overhaul the whole cooling system after the radiator popped and all the plastic clips that hold for windows in have recently disintegrated causing the window to come out of the frame in a dramatic fashion. Even in the 90s BMW was bad with plastic parts. Also the seat recliners twist like they have scoliosis and you have to repair the cables. It’s always some esoteric weird shit that fails in a spectacular fashion. My W124 was easier to live with desu. They’re starting to feel old
>>29133279lol, enjoy your digital electric car, wrenchlet
>>29133868>buy 30 year old car>wtf why is everything plastic and rubber disintegrating, shit build quality It's always hilarious seeing someone getting into an old car because "old good new bad" and then be shocked when the entire car is falling apart.
>>29133868I am sure even your (t)rusty toyota would have plastics, small electronics like window motors etc be on their last legs at almost 40 years old too
>>29133771BMW has never made a good looking vehicle.
>>29133913True, however bmw components have a max shelf life of 15 years at most
>>29134116Longer than the 5 years japs and gooks have
>>29134116tell that to the rusty crusty e34 I looked at the other day that had it's original radiator/coolant reservoir on
>>29133913I mean I knew what I was getting into but the it has been comparably worse with the E34 than it has been with some other cars, like the W124, considering it is a clean example. The E36 I had was fucked with how biodegradable it was, especially the interior. I had a Celica from 84 and it didn’t have any issues with window regulators etc
>>29133900Still better than a nu car bc I can fix it myself easily, provided I can still get parts, it hasn’t left me stranded and it doesn’t spy on me. Also it doesn’t look ugly af like a nu bmw
>>29134474>Still better than a nu car bc I can fix it myself easily, provided I can still get partsSourcing parts for a 30+ year old car is always fun, specially when your only options are junkyard parts that are only marginally better than what you're replacing or dodgy Chinese reproductions that don't even fit. Also everyone loves being able to wrench on their car until they actually have to wrench on their car, then the car sits in a lawn half disassembled for a decade until you either die or sell it to some dude for four hundred bucks so he can half ass putting it back together to do autocross or whatever.
>>29132995This isnt an E31.Opinion discarded.
