Russians have already discovered the quality of Chinese vehicles.

A forum titled "Chinese Trucks in Russia: Initial Operational Experience and Prospects" was held in Novosibirsk, bringing together representatives from Russian transport companies, Chinese firms, and economists. It quickly became apparent that the collaboration is not unfolding as the Russian side had hoped.

The primary complaint concerns the significantly higher failure rate of Chinese vehicles, which break down much more often than their European counterparts.

Interestingly, there is no consistent pattern regarding these breakdowns. While some vehicles manage to cover high mileage without requiring repairs, about half of the Chinese trucks experience major failures in critical components—such as the engine or transmission—before reaching 500,000 kilometers, which, in the context of heavy-duty trucking, amounts to just 3–4 years of service. Many complaints also focused on electrical system failures, as well as the fact that even routine maintenance tasks—such as replacing a battery—are overly complex and require specialized diagnostic equipment.

Another issue is the lack of local warehouses and service centers. Consequently, repairs handled by dealerships take a long time, as necessary parts must be imported from China. For transport companies, every truck taken out of service translates into tangible financial losses. Furthermore, it was noted that the prices for spare parts for Chinese vehicles can be significantly HIGHER than those for European trucks.

If chinese cars are so awful, then why can't US and EU auto companies compete with them?

Beijing has officially included the decision to phase out subsidies for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in its new five-year plan for 2026–2030. This marks the end of a chapter during which China spent over $220 billion on the development of this sector since 2010.

Furthermore they had no qualms about stealing intellectual property from other countries and engaging in industrial espionage.

But of course Chinese shills can’t write about that.

The Koreans did the same thing with all their cars 20 years ago and look at them now. Copying other designs and selling at a lower price works because most buyers don't give a shit about real quality.

the chinese government only give like 200 bucks per car to the manufacturers, most of the subvention was on the program to trade a a gas car for an EV for 2-3k usd, still relatively small compared to the price of the vehicles

the chinese government uses the yuan peg and strict capital controls to keep the value of the yuan down, without causing inflation. this means they can unfairly compete with western markets by having artificially cheap products at the cost of their citizens quality of life. a chinese product in china is not cheap, it's about as expensive as a german product in germany. when exporting though, the yuan peg makes chinese products incredibly cheap for other countries, while also having the inverse effect of other countries products being incredibly expensive in china. the only reasonable way to deal with this is to incrementally ban chinese imports in western countries and ally together to trade on fair, equal footing
