I just put a down payment on a 2015 Streetfighter 848 only to realize it comes with traction control, but not ABS. Should I try to get my deposit back and get a Streetfighter V2 with all the modern electronics instead? I'm not a Boy Scout, but ABS seems pretty important for a modern bike, I don't know why Ducati didn't even have it as an option in 2015.

It was a dream to ride though.
>>
>>29130766
you don't need ABS unless you are a fucking retard

So yeah you better get it

Buying anything except the latest and previous generations V2 and V4 from Ducati is a big mistake no matter the ABS.

>>
I'm convinced any 1000cc bike even i4 is a better beginner bike than i4 600cc. Two reasons:
- low end 1000cc torque allows beginner to stay away from dangerous high rev zone
- beginner is going to be scared of opening throttle more than on 600cc = better throttle control

>>
>>29130766
in the year of Our Lord 2026 I would no longer purchase a motorcycle without ABS for the same reason I would no longer purchase a car without seatbelts
If youre gonna put real time in it, not just very gently ride it on backroads in perfect weather, its critical safety equipment
Some of the electronics, even common ones, give you very little - wheelie control, gear indicators, ride modes, radar cruise, quickshifters
But others are extremely valuable - ABS, cornering lights, traction control, IMUs
After experiencing cornering lights even my car feels ridiculous when I'm merging onto the highway at night. It never occurred to me "wow I really can't see well around this bend" because it was just the way it had always been.

>>29130931
this is retarded, if you want a 1000cc you dont need to fool yourself into thinking its objectively better, you can get something because you like it

This is my first own bike, it's 30kg heavier and has 2x the power and displacement of SV650 from my school but it flicks much easier than SV650 because of low center of mass. Maneuvering it on parking lot is complicated though, and making tight turns in the city on low speed as well but that's because of long wheel base, not engine capacity I think.

>also, how do you secure the bike inside a van on a budget
ratchet straps, also available at harbor freight

>>29131164
>you stop sooner without abs
maybe in perfect conditions of perfect calm, dry pavement, hot day. I don't think YOU are actually better than ABS, maybe you're better than twenty year old ABS. But maybe you are under optimal conditions
You're certainly not better than ABS in the wet, when you have to react to a sudden change, when you're on hour ten of a long days ride, on cold tires.

>>29131166
you could say this about modern tire compounds, disc brakes, or the hydraulic fork. things got better.
>>
>>29131166
Bikers used to be a lot more likely to die and ABS being standard is a big reason fatalities are down so much.
Every argument you make against ABS is also an argument against radial tires and disc brakes.
>>
>>29131198
>abs

>radial tires
Gay
>disc brakes

wow you’re right
>>
>>29131202
Unironically based. You don't NEED any of those, albeit radial tires are a bit of a toss up solely because bias ply tires are hard to come by, it's just cheaper to get whatever radials off the shelf.
>>
>>29131194
>if this is a rented van, not a van you own, i'd instead recommend that when you rent the van you also rent a motorcycle trailer
If that's the case I can rent a normal car then, and the motorcycle trailer if I can find i, that's a better idea.
>>
>>29131202
Also no hydraulics of any kind, fuel injection or alternators. Those are all gay too. No short stroke engines either. Enjoy your 8 horsepower.

As someone who has a lot of experience working with plastic, I can help. Get some tamiya extra thin plastic cement. It'll seep into the crack and fuse the plastic back together. The stuff is meant for models but it's incredibly strong because of the fusions of plastic. It's ideal for stuff like this since it penetrates cracks so well.
>>
>>29131170
Wrong. Your kinds skis never had abs yet held their ground against a russian invasion. Git gud.
>>29131194
All ABS does is let you do turning inputs under heavy braking / prevents rear wheel locking up under extreme and sudden stabbing of the brakes (which is what scrubs do)

>These invasive tech crutches are totally the same as component advancements!
Wrong. New tires, disc brakes, fork assemblies. All of those DO NOT interfere with a riders input. All those items merely improve existing dumb systems (as in dormant, not stupid)

Meanwhile you got TC faggoty and all the other various tech nannies trying to square a circle solving problems that are only there if you really fucking suck at riding. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of making shit better. That's why I refuse to give any credit to tech bloat slop that removes agency from the rider / distorts feedback to specfic inputs.

IF YOU STAB THE BRAKES AS A PANIC RESPONSE. THATS NOT ON THE MACHINE. THATS ON YOU
>>29131198
Bikers back then hardly ever got proper training and helmet laws were optional. Gear wasn't as advanced then either so fatality correlation is hardly related to ABS alone.

ABS is different than tires and disc brakes because it overwrites your shitty input. Tires and discs do NOT do this nor have any resemblance of this dynamic. You are bad faith or stupid to conflate these components and how said components interact with the rider in question.

You goofballs just love gimmicks and the concept of buying skill instead of doing the hard work refining your own riding. OP doesn't need a new bike, OP needs braking and handling classes/coaching.

>picrel it's YOU dumb bitch!
>>
If rasheesh can do this without ABS then you can commute to work without ABS.
>>
>>29131231
Bikes have been constantly evolving to be safer and more powerful. All of those things are changes made to the end of making bikes safer to ride. Hydraulic disc brakes are a perfect comparison since you could have a set of mechanical drums and be perfectly fine. You could live without all of those things. You just chose to freak out about ABS for some reason and not them.
Please post your bike.
>>
>>29131220
Even more based.
Generators or dynamos are all you need anyway.
>>
>>29131236
You do not own a bike.
>>
>>29131231
ABS was optional until recently and european and american studies have both shown that abs equipped motorcycles of the same model had significantly fewer fatal crashes per mile than their non-abs counterparts
>if you stab the brakes thats on you
i'd rather it not be on me, thanks, i'd rather avoid crashing in a worst case scenario than have to have top .001% braking ability
if you want an even more direct comparison, ABS is more like an electronically controlled red line than anything else.
>>
>>29131235
>You just chose to freak out about ABS for some reason and not them.

I don't see it that way. I see noob riders convinced that they HAVE TO HAVE this shit. And you don't. In many ways it makes you a worse rider. fag

> I was gonna buy a biek but I must cancel because no abs

derp
>>
>>29131231
On hour ten of a long day in the saddle, when there's a situation that requires emergency braking, yeah, the rider probably is going to stab at the brakes, they're tired. ABS will keep them upright. You can still threshold brake normally on any decent ABS system.
>>
>>29131241
>Nobike freaking out because he doesn't want ABS
Yeah you're such a good rider. Anyone with ABS is just a worse rider than you, who has never touched a motorcycle.
>>
>>29131238
Oh but I do.

>>
>>29131233
Commuting home or to work in drizzling rain, when it's a bit foggy and even your pinlock is getting a bit misty, lane splitting through a miles long traffic jam, is exactly when I WANT ABS, the paint on the stripes is slippery.
>>29130766
If you liked riding it and you have a lot of miles on it I'd keep it. 848s are cool.
>>

Gtf outta here, comically disingenuous and not even remotely comparable by principle.

Those stats are skewed because ABS only saves the stupid riders that ham fit a full lever when scared. Sure, you can fix stupidity but that doesn't make you a better rider.

>>29131246
ABS perpetuates bad habits because you will never learn the correct inputs without it. It's no different than TC, Wheelie control, rider modes, etc. All of that shit is shit you can do with your right wrist.
>>29131255

Your reading comprehension must really, really suck dude. My post was only a couple sentences and somehow you think I'm riding aggressively in the rain carving corners instead of literally just plodding through a traffic jam.
>>
>>29131282
I don't think you understand how ABS works. ABS compares instantaneous wheel speed readings to what they were X units of time ago, and if it sees you locking a wheel up, it softens that caliper with pulsing brake pressure. You can brake totally normally and learn correct braking habits just as easily. Having the lever pulse on you sounds and feels very weird and is its own form of negative reinforcement.

>>29131287
If I stab my rear brake without ABS. My wheel locks up.
If I stab my rear brake with ABS. My wheel does not lock up.

Therefore. ABS rewards bad inputs and the rider will never learn what not to do. I'm fully aware of how the system functions, I reject its necessity and the infinite fear based shilling you tards perpetuate thinking you NEED it and incapable without it.

>more arm chair psychology from the basket weaving website
Pathology? Yawn
My security is irrelevant, I don't give a fuck what you're on at the end of the day. However there's far more respect to the riders without the tech bloat than the ones that cling to it.
>>29131325
All that dirt bike experience just to throw it all away to a machine doing all that work for you. Sad. Maybe you should've done something else growing up instead

You give so few fucks that you decided to throw a temper tantrum that will almost certainly last a few more hours before you burn out. If you brake correctly you'll never activate your ABS. It being there is invisible to the rider until they need it. You do not know what you are talking about.
>>
>>29131338
I absolutely love it. As a nobike I thought it looks retarded but now I refuse to ride without it.

By the way theres not a single bike post from any of you. Funny how that works.
>>
>>29131357
Autistic people like you hold grudges so people probably don't want some lifelong autistic vendetta post from you any time they post their bike. You still do not know how ABS works and you're clearly upset that literally every post directed at you has been to let you know that you're wrong.
>>
>>29131359

Must be a plebbitor.

>>
>>29131375
>If you're braking correctly you don't need ABS
Curious
>>
>>29131377
Yes. It's an emergency safety feature which is completely invisible until you need it. Not having it is stupid because the fringe case where it's needed is one that will kill you if you don't have it.

Many such cases from the tech obsessed bugmen.
>>
>>29131385

They should be, you don't even notice them being there until you need them, you will die otherwise

Ah yes the dude's hitting 62° at a 180 miles per hour have it therefore I must have it or I will die going to work
>>
>>29131386
>The data is wrong because I sad so
People prove data is wrong by finding new data that does that. It's not a matter of some retard saying nuh uh and everyone believing him.
You keep moving the goalposts. At least now you're admitting that there's no negatives to ABS. There is literally no reason to not have ABS on a bike.

>>29131387
Bikers are notorious for lobbying against anything that costs money. It also does very little for the kind of accidents normal bikers get into.

>>29131389
I was under the impression that you were the best rider in the world and accomplished something. My bad.
>>
>>29131390
I did not admit anything remotely close to that you disingenuous chud.

If you rely on abs, you're a worse rider than one who does not. It's shrimple as that.
>Advocating for non-invasive systems must mean I have a superiority/old bike complex
Another "brilliant" take from /o/'s clinical armchair psychologist everybody! You can't go 5 posts without trying to larp as a mind reader.

Cars are not bikes, you do not need half the shit a car absolutely needs.
>>
Guh! Bbbbut the data!
>>
>>29131394
My ABS has never been set off but the day it does get set off I'll be grateful. ABS is a non-invasive safety feature. I don't know why you've got your head so far up your ass about it.
You're not advocating for non-invasive safety features. You're advocating for having none.
>>
>>29131397
I'm Advocating against tc, wc, abs, etc incase your shitty reading comprehension didn't pick that up. It is invasive because it overwrites a riders lever inputs.

No abs stops sooner, so yes I'd rather have none if it means I brake quicker.

It overrides lever inputs when you're doing something stupid that will make you crash the bike. Are you throwing this tantrum because you want to crash the bike?

>>29131401
My bike has a thing on the dash to let me know if that's the case. The worst case scenario for having ABS is that it doesn't work. You think the solution for a fringe case ABS failure is to not have it at all.

>>29131403
Clearly the alternative is to have never had it in the first place and have the same outcome.
>>
>>29131095
Ooooh, i know that bike then, nighttime and angle threw me off
>>
>>29131405
>it only overrides lever on put when you're doing something stupid
>I need this to not crash
There it is. My point exactly. You are objectively worse than any other rider (throw a dart at this board for all the other anons with non-abs bikes and I garentee you that they have better habits than you who relies so heavily on it)
>>
>>29131405
You look at a dashboard to function, I just look at the road and act. We are not the same.
>>
I am getting it this spring (need to save up money) to brap around.
>>
>>29131411
No, just when I start the bike. I also have a check engine light. That's really gonna set you off isn't it?

>>29131409
It's never went off, by the way. It's an emergency thing. Anyone who rides regularly should be happy there's a non-invasive emergency safety feature to keep you from dying in the fringe scenario that kills bikers. Why are you like this? Did you make sure to buy a car without airbags too?

my last bike didn't have ABS and I used to practice braking as hard as I could pretty frequently and more than a couple times I locked the front but I never actually had it jerk totally left or right on me, I would hear the screeching and feel the tire skipping then let off the front a little bit and it would track straight again. Obviously that never happened when I actually had to emergency brake because I knew better than to overbrake.
I appreciate my new bike having ABS, the week before I bought it I had a close call going from 60 - 0 when an elderly driver pulled out in front of me within about 100ish ft of me.
My front brake was solid and I was able to brake in time but my rear lifted enough that the tire started kicking off track and I had to let off the front a little to avoid going down.
I imagine ABS probably would have corrected my braking technique there

A sidecar with 2 wheel drive.
>>
>>29131688
Good idea, grab yourself an M72 or K750 if possible, the sidevalves are much easier to live with than the OHV 650 are.
650s are okay, might last you a million miles or might twist the crankshaft to a pretzel in 15 minutes.
Latter 750 OHV engines, especially the ones made after '07 are very sturdy and easy to live with machines.
They have Keihin CVK carbs, contactless ignition, disk brakes all around, Nippon denso electrics, electric starters and whatnot.
But they will never look as good as an M72 or M61 does.

I just visited a local helmet shop and tried all their helmets that I managed to put on my head. Not a single one felt comfortable. What the fuck anon? It goes like this with every single one of them: my head circumference is of size M, yet my head can barely fit in size L helmets but they are too tight either on chin or temples, and the helmets of size XL are way too lose and wobble around my head.
I tried literally every manufacturer available in Europe except Arai which was not available. What am I missing? And no, I don't have head deformities.
>>
>>29131952
You probably need a large and just measured your head wrong
>>
>>29131952
What you're missing is that helmets aren't made for every size head. Heads can be round or oval, and some brands only make round, some only make oval, and some only make round and oval in certain roundness or ovalness. You can't know which just by looking at them since it's an internal measurement.

Do what I did, I have a fat long oval head that REQUIRES XL helmets that are longer rather than wider. Send for a kit for this company, costs 20 bux
https://www.lidpicker.com/

They send you a report with your exact head dimensions and which brands stock helmets in your size and shape. You get a report back that looks like this, from my report. It will tell you which brands to look for which make helmets that are Ideal by shape and Ideal by length and width. Never buy a helmet that falls outside these categories. Most of their selection is older but the sizes and shapes apply to the newer models from the same manufacturers, too.
>>
>>29131952
you may also be feeling racial characteristics as well. Asians have rounder heads. Africans have more round circular heads, white people have almost oblong oval heads. That's why some markets you only see round helmets being sold or oval helmets being sold. in North America you mostly see Oval helmets. in South America you see a mix of round and oval helmets. In Asia, most of their brands are round.
>>
>>29131959
>>29131960
When you say round it means in what projection? Like round from above or round looking staring into your face?

Thanks for the link btw I gotta try the measuring kit

Also how can you say theyre stuck in the pqst when they make gundam and miku buckets, what the fuck?
Although i agree im tired of one single motogp star and all his copy cat designs- majority of them dont mix and match bike color palettes unless youre rocking blue or red it feels like

We need BOLD NEW COLORS mr.shoei, i agree
>>
>>29132364
I didn't talk only about colors. I was talking about the shell design, mostly about the shape.
>>
>>29132367
Outer shell design mostly depends on riding style
Not much more you can do when you deaign areodynamics etc. And airflow inside the helmet
The rf1400 is claimed to be quietest helmet on the market iirc, i kinda want one for my next bucket, but i cant do another stiggerpill- id basically have to collect all the stiggers between now and then and have all the real estate planned out because im laquering this sonnabitch finish so i dont have fading and shit scratches peeling the good ones

Idk maybe theres vinyl wraps that can transfer a custom design, maybe this is the way to go for things

Nothing wrong with a blnk helmet and some checkers/pinstripes for simplicity
R3/fz6/triumph twinklette has a funny emoji face saluting all the soccer moms he revbombs on the top of his visor, sometimes less is more in design and artistry

But the stiggerpill is inherently schizo-overdrive so avoid this timeline if youre not predisposed to the dankest redpills imaginable and especially if youre not already engaged in european extreme mode spiritual warfare against the antichrist, be advised there's no turning back from the stiggerpill, if you peel them off youll crash your bike in the parking lot, just ask texasbros what happened when he removed them feom his 636

Listen and learn, a Shoomers is speaking

I guess also if safety isnt a comcern, you could just use whatever prop helmet you want like viking horns or a crusader helm

This is KTM's TFT dash on the 890 ADV series bikes. Definitely looks like shit but they at least make use of it being a TFT and do things like make the tach huge and have a shift light flash when you're in race/sport settings, or make the speedometer bigger and have a fuel range estimate in regular street mode, etc. The 990RC dash is even more garish but at least that has a huge bar tach going all the way across.

>parts availability
The 900rr all the way from 1992 up to 2002 uses essentially the same engine just bored out / efi updated / different transmissions so parts wise, they're abundant and surprisingly cheap. CCT will need to be updated if it has the original one, no gear driven cams. Only the 250cc japan Only baby-blades had those (sadly)
The catch is some blades got dogged hard back in the day, terrible maintenance, no warm ups on cold starts, etc. Caused many of them to have bad piston rings and funny enough hella cbr guys are retarded and just say "it's normal" or "the bike just does that"
Which isn't true. Pistons don't fuckin slap from factory.
One strange problem they sometimes have is their HTEV system which is in the exhaust and intake box. Essentially it's 2 flappers that actuate in a way that generates more "backpressure" in order to generate noticably more torque. The gears that these flappers ride on are made of plastic and the teeth can sheer off. Causing issues / leaving it stuck open which makes it sound different but ultimately get nerfed (until you're in the high-mid to top end of the powerband)

All of the Cbr 900s are goated, only thing that sucks finding oem fairings, replacement HTEV shit, and installing the CCT (It be tight n shit, you'll prob need to shave down 1 hand wrench to clear the inside of the frame)
>>
>>29133170
>like maybe you need to induce a lowside crash when its your best option to avoid hitting something as hard as you otherwise would
There is literally not a single situation where a motorcycle rider should intentionally crash their bike, regardless of what Boomers will tell you. Life is not a Bollywood movie.

If gear cams are so good why do manufacturers never use them on bikes and cars?
>>

If you leave out offroad, it's just weight and cost, and I don't think the street guys give much of a shit about either most of the time, since a lot of bike's ABS units aren't that bad (BMW can fuck right off though.)
>>
>>29133377
Noise emission regulations changed after 2000 which forced all manufacturers to not use them. It's the same reason straight cut gearbox transmissions/dog boxes aren't allowed to be manufactured. They are objectively better than cam chain tensioner setups for not only reliability reasons, but also for pinpoint accurate timing (which is why this little 250cc fucker can redline to twenty fucking thousand rpms for millions and millions of rotations without issue)

The change was how the throttle input was done for the test. God driven cams scream, so they're too cool for nimby motherfuckers

You would never actually do this. The momentum of you being on top of a skidding bike and not falling off literally doesn't work. Once it lays down, your forward momentum doesn't stop, and you're going to be laying next to it. It's best to just practice good braking.

Yes. This was the model year where they shaved off every mm of unnecessary metal and highly stressed. The whirring of the engine is so loud because of how thin the cases are. These were race bikes first.

>race bikes first
Wrong. They were open class sport bikes built for the real world. There was no 900 ran in a professional race setting. The development of the fireblade did not begin on the track. (Test race tracks sure, but it was never built to contend in wsbk/ama)

The 954, was much more stressed due to the minmaxxing tado baba did to the 929 but they're by no means fragile. Thin engine cases only make valve train noise. Nothing more nothing less unless you loop the thing and crack the case. 25 year old sport bikes are long in the tooth but the fact plenty of those cbrs are alive and riding around today is a testament to their engineering integrity.

The 954 was a 2 year bike, but the 929 was also 2 years. They are very similar, biggest change is the swing arm. 954 is shorter in wheelbase.

Parts are not expensive. At all. Again. Only body parts and proprietary things like the HTEV/flapper system are difficult to source. The 954 sacrificed 5% reliability in exchange for 5% more performance. The 929 has sacrificed nothing yet still puts down an incredible amount of power for its featherweight build. If you wanted the best of both worlds, drop a 954 motor into a 929 gearbox.
>machines don't last forever
Not by their own they don't, that earnest falls on you but there's plenty of machines that stood the test of time with proper caretakers so I beg to differ assuming 'old = dead in the water'

They're good bikes mate. I want 929 for its beefer build quality and imho its design looks far more timeless than the hyper angular 954 (which is still sexoooo for the record)

If you don't believe me on any of this, then just read more tado baba interviews. It's crystal clear that these are not race bikes with lights. They're open class real world weapons.
