Does anybody else here have a fondness for the cars of this period?
My nostalgia comes from owning an 1989 Beretta GTU when I lived in Daytona & Miami in 90s. It was very fitting for the era of high-waist bikini contests and 2 AM club tables covered in angel dust.

    >fondness for lazily-engineered generic parts-bin garbage.
Why would you take any of it over a 911?

GM thought you should according to this lol
This ad reminded me that the 90s Bonnevilles were also supposed to compete with Audi & BMW. GM execs were all doing coke in their boardrooms.
Now if the SSEi trim was the base trim it would've made more sense.
    >>29129765
These cars had way better exteriors than interiors for the most part. The Regal GS's '89 facelift looked like sex.

isn't that what skylines were. people worship those.
    >>
i may be about to have a fondness for a car of this period because it may soon be my first car, funnily enough i am more stressed about legal trouble regarding making the car mine than i am about getting it fixed, but that's probably just because i hate dealing with people in a customer-to-employee way and vice-versa and just see getting the car fixed as an inevitability compared to that.
    >>
    >>29129973
Oh you mean the ones which were extremely successful in Group A racing?
Gee I wonder why people like those cars better than a Chevrolet Beretta.....

The trucks weren't good yet, the FWD appliances were terrible, the turd gen sucked, and the Caddys were abysmal. The only good things going were the RWD Buicks, the Corvette, and the 3800 minivans. Late 90's-Early 00's GM was vastly better.

They would at least generally go in the direction in which you pointed the nose while applying the throttle, which a Fox or SN95 would only do in ideal conditions on new tires.

from what i've heard about the engine online that's honestly what i was thinking too, and if that is the case that means i could have a car that runs and drives for as much as a set of new tires and a battery

Turbo gtp, z34 lumina, quad four high output. Olds v6 diesel. Awd Pontiac 6000. Sure they're cool but they're in such small quantities compared to the loads of trash that got pushed out and you'll never find the only somewhat interesting models. Out of all of them I've only seen a z34 lumina (automatic) in the past decade. Way easier to find a manual 1st gen RAV4, supercharged previa, something with a 2zz, or an actual fun car like a Camaro, mustang, etc
    >>
    >>29130275
You can 3 link a fox. A Camaro will always be heavier.
    >>
I always liked the Z34 Lumina...still a Lumina though. But it didn't matter to all the white trash beach bimbos I could pick up in one. So I guess that's the compliment I could give it.

No? Other international cars have had far more interesting technology than what GM were shitting out during this period. No one cared for or remembers these crap cars and rightfully so. They had crazy competition and they did nothing to innovate. The cars still looked and felt like they were decades behind.

I still see a decent amount of 3800 powered Buicks, Caprices and Celebrities on the road, plus the odd Roadmaster and Cutlass. For as much hate as these get, they seem more reliable than their Ford or Chrysler counterparts.
    >>
    >>29131753
You used to be able to buy at least 2-3 Cavaliers for the equivalent cost of a single Civic or Corolla and they were unkillable little shitboxes.
    >>

I still see lots of Cavs and I'm in the rust belt. Pretty impressive when they're the official car of the trailer trash meth/crackhead.

Them, Grand Prixs (Prixes?) and Sunfires are still decently common, but mainly the 2000s models. I tend to see a few of Ford Escorts and Contours too.

I have a guilty pleasure for A bodies of that era (celebrity, Century, Sierra). The C and H body cars are ok but are bit too chunky for me. First gen N and W bodies are eh but I do like the Gran Prix and original Gran Am.

Of course there are the B and D body cars that I always find cool, as well as the F bodies.
