It's going to he the most plasticky squeaky and rattly piece of shit ever isn't it?
    >>
    >>29129442
Yes, but that's what being laser focused on hitting the lowest price point gives you. If nothing else, it's a good thing there will be the option for people to have a no-nonsense utilitarian EV for a reasonable price.
    >>
    >>29129442
This is the car all the poors said they wanted. No frills, no options, no connectivity, nothing.
    >>
    >>29129452
It's an EV? Wow, that sucks.
    >>
    >>29129433
dang i’m eager to see one on the road
    >>
Just like businesses needing a shed get going, many businesses were dependent on a truck to get up and running, the white man has rapidly lost access to both, hopefully SLATE can help
    >>
    >>29129452
    >the option for people to have a no-nonsense utilitarian
When was the last time any vehicle like this has sold well?, EV or ICE.
Base model pickup trucks do not sell. Base model cars do not sell.
    >>
    >>29129534
Base model of all cars sell well if the car sells well. They're just not profitable. They exist only to create scale. Slate is different, the base model is profitable.
    >>
    >>29129535
They don't sell well. Just look at pickup trucks. There's a reason why the average truck sale is over $50k. No it's not because cheap base model trucks don't exist because you can get a new half ton for less than Civic. People just don't want them. There is no point in financing a base model when a mid trim is an extra $50/mo. Yes dealers will always and try to push you into the mid to high trim truck already on the lot but you're still free to order a base model.
    >>
    >>29129540
    >There's a reason why the average truck sale is over $50k
Yes, it's because the base model is extremely popular but some people will go up to $100K on a truck. Don't talk about subjects you don't understand.
    >>
    >>29129542
You need to learn how averages work. If people were actually buying base models the average would be closer to $30k. If people were only buying $100k trucks the average would be closer to $100k. Do they not teach basic math in school anymore?
    >>
    >>29129546
    >You need to learn how averages work
No, YOU need to learn that.
    >f people were actually buying base models the average would be closer to $30k.
    WRONG.
    >>
    >>29129546
If ten people buy a truck, eight of them buy a $25000 base model, and two buy a $50000 premium model, then you get an average cost of $30000.

In other words, your retard ass is trying to say that "base models aren't popular" unless they are 80% of the market.
    >>

    >>29129550
wow grape! You can do basic math. Just look out the bus windows and look at the amount of mid to high level trucks compared to base models. Base models obviously aren't popular when they're being out-sold by fucking Raptors lol.

Second and third gen tacomas and 4runners
    >>
    >>29129581
Meanwhile, in reality, the preorders are refunded if the delivery is canceled by the company.

They have over a billion in investment, refunding a few tens of thousands of dollars if they go under isn't hard.
    >>
    >>29129572
I wanted them to succeed. I've driven Elio prototype #4 (the orange one). It had a Geo Metro 3cyl and 4spd automatic
    >>
    >>29129540
A base, totally barebones F-150 is $40k msrp
    >>
    >>29129588
Also the XLT model is literally just the XL model with painted wheels for $2000. Given that the base model truck is $40K and the top trim is $80K, $42K is functionally a base trim. Most people who buy trucks buy them exclusively for image, while something like a cheap truck just isn't offered in the US.
    >>
    >>29129589
    *STX, not XLT
    >>
    >>29129550
    >eight of them buy a $25000 base model
nobody buys this because it doesn't exist
    >>29129589
Base model trucks are bought for work, which is what drives the price up. They're a necessity so people will pay extra because they have to. The market for trucks/vans both new and used is totally fucked.
    >>
Do people realize the Slate is $27,000 (MSRP plus destination charge)? That is not cheap and the range a shit. Better off buying a Honda CR-V for a few thousand more.
    >>
    >>29129596
That's high, but a destination charge was never unexpected. Something like $1000 would be normal. There's no dealerships or whatever to minimize transportation costs.
    >>
    >>29129598
Which means it will be harder to get warranty service. The Ford Maverick is another option for that price.
    >>
    >>29129602
Nah, it'll just be harder to get perfect warranty service. There's a warranty network, just not a distribution network.

And it wasn’t close to a production model; rather, the black Slate Truck was a hand-built older prototype with a black wrap (the Slate Truck base color is gray). Who THE FUCK cares? NOBODY who cared about towing bought a Ranger. Towing with a Ranger is this novelty where the Ranger owner buys a fridge and moves it to their house by themselves.

Literally every complaint boils down to something like that.
    >>
    >>29130727
Just because you've never done anything with a truck (or with your life) doesn't mean the rest of us haven't. Towing a camper, boat, or utility trailer is part and parcel of the truck value proposition. Even that hermaphrodite Maverick can be factory equipped with a towing package.

    >anecdotal worldview
Let's take your premise at face value. How often does someone need to use a feature of their vehicle to justify its existence? 10% of the time? 5%? Should there be a roof down mandate for all convertible owners? Require everyone with third row seating to carry seven passengers once a month?
    >brodozers
It's ok to say you hate trucks. We don't take you seriously already.
    >>
    >>29133905
NTA. Convertible owner here. If it's not raining and it's warmer than 15°C then the roof stays down; if there's direct sunlight the temperature threshold is lowered to 10°C. Only exception to this rule is when I'm expecting to travel on the highway for more than 15' because wind noise gets unbearable after a while. Why one would accept the compromises of a convertible if he won't use the one feature the car revolves around? Similarly, moving a huge ass vehicle just to haul your single ass around is retarded.

Underutilizing a feature you paid hard cash for at the end of the day is wasteful, unless you're enamored more with the idea than the functionality, which is fine, but at least let's not pretend capabilities play a role in the picture.

The bigger issue with a truck like that is reliability. The main perk of EVs is that there's not really anything that can go wrong with the drivetrain (barring any manufacturing defects anyway like hyundais ICCUs). They are too simple and reliable so you know you will never be out of transportation. Older ICE vehicles break down all the time for a bunch of reasons. Old seals and stuff just dry rot at that age. Stuff like alternators are wear items that can randomly crap out on you. Transmissions can crap out on you, lots of stuff that can go wrong on an ICE vehicle, and it usually does at some point especially on the old ones.
