good for them i guess
It's going to he the most plasticky squeaky and rattly piece of shit ever isn't it?
>>29129442Yes, but that's what being laser focused on hitting the lowest price point gives you. If nothing else, it's a good thing there will be the option for people to have a no-nonsense utilitarian EV for a reasonable price.
>>29129442This is the car all the poors said they wanted. No frills, no options, no connectivity, nothing.
>>29129452It's an EV? Wow, that sucks.
>>29129433dang i’m eager to see one on the road
Just like businesses needing a shed get going, many businesses were dependent on a truck to get up and running, the white man has rapidly lost access to both, hopefully SLATE can help
>>29129452>the option for people to have a no-nonsense utilitarianWhen was the last time any vehicle like this has sold well?, EV or ICE.Base model pickup trucks do not sell. Base model cars do not sell.
>>29129534Base model of all cars sell well if the car sells well. They're just not profitable. They exist only to create scale. Slate is different, the base model is profitable.
>>29129535They don't sell well. Just look at pickup trucks. There's a reason why the average truck sale is over $50k. No it's not because cheap base model trucks don't exist because you can get a new half ton for less than Civic. People just don't want them. There is no point in financing a base model when a mid trim is an extra $50/mo. Yes dealers will always and try to push you into the mid to high trim truck already on the lot but you're still free to order a base model.
>>29129540>There's a reason why the average truck sale is over $50kYes, it's because the base model is extremely popular but some people will go up to $100K on a truck. Don't talk about subjects you don't understand.
>>29129542You need to learn how averages work. If people were actually buying base models the average would be closer to $30k. If people were only buying $100k trucks the average would be closer to $100k. Do they not teach basic math in school anymore?
>>29129546>You need to learn how averages workNo, YOU need to learn that.>f people were actually buying base models the average would be closer to $30k.WRONG.
>>29129546If ten people buy a truck, eight of them buy a $25000 base model, and two buy a $50000 premium model, then you get an average cost of $30000.In other words, your retard ass is trying to say that "base models aren't popular" unless they are 80% of the market.
>>29129550wow grape! You can do basic math. Just look out the bus windows and look at the amount of mid to high level trucks compared to base models. Base models obviously aren't popular when they're being out-sold by fucking Raptors lol.
>>29129554>abandons argument and tries to invent a "just look around" oneI accept your concession.
*cough* Elio *cough*
>>29129433And then in 2027 all the preorder money disappears and so does the company
>>29129534Second and third gen tacomas and 4runners
>>29129581Meanwhile, in reality, the preorders are refunded if the delivery is canceled by the company. They have over a billion in investment, refunding a few tens of thousands of dollars if they go under isn't hard.
>>29129572I wanted them to succeed. I've driven Elio prototype #4 (the orange one). It had a Geo Metro 3cyl and 4spd automatic
>>29129540A base, totally barebones F-150 is $40k msrp
>>29129588Also the XLT model is literally just the XL model with painted wheels for $2000. Given that the base model truck is $40K and the top trim is $80K, $42K is functionally a base trim. Most people who buy trucks buy them exclusively for image, while something like a cheap truck just isn't offered in the US.
>>29129589*STX, not XLT
>>29129550>eight of them buy a $25000 base modelnobody buys this because it doesn't exist>>29129589Base model trucks are bought for work, which is what drives the price up. They're a necessity so people will pay extra because they have to. The market for trucks/vans both new and used is totally fucked.
Do people realize the Slate is $27,000 (MSRP plus destination charge)? That is not cheap and the range a shit. Better off buying a Honda CR-V for a few thousand more.
>>29129596That's high, but a destination charge was never unexpected. Something like $1000 would be normal. There's no dealerships or whatever to minimize transportation costs.
>>29129598Which means it will be harder to get warranty service. The Ford Maverick is another option for that price.
>>29129602Nah, it'll just be harder to get perfect warranty service. There's a warranty network, just not a distribution network.
>>29129603https://www.slateforums.com/forum/threads/slate-warranty-coverage-announced-will-have-3k-service-centers-most-of-any-direct-sales-auto-company.15152/
>>29129584The vast majority of those were fairly loaded with a V6 and an automatic. They were not cheap vehicles when they were new.
>>29129499>designed by a foid>4 1/2' bed>couldn't tow a shopping cartyeah anon i'm shocked they're not flying out the door either
>>29129787>cheap car doesn't have the capabilities of a more expensive carnooooo
>2027 orange peel paintlol ok
>>29130008None of these cars are painted. They are vinyl wrapped from factory assuming you even select the option
>But only one truck was on display. And it wasn’t close to a production model; rather, the black Slate Truck was a hand-built older prototype with a black wrap (the Slate Truck base color is gray). The bed and passenger sides were cordoned off, but the driver-side door was open so shoppers could hop in and check out the interior.
>>29129433why not make it cabover and give it a real bed like that canoo thing?
>>29130153i sure there will be plenty of cabs for the bed, aftermarket at leastBut yea, its stupid that they made the bed so short.
>>29130153Front offset collision safety
>>29129433The orange peel is so bad I can see it in this compressed picture taken from a distance
>>29129433look at this beauty
>>29129596>that is not cheapi dont think you can get a new vehicle cheaper than that in current year + 15
>>29129974>This is the car all the poors said they wanted. No frills, no options, no connectivity, nothing.a lack of frills and options is entirely different than a lack of capabilities, retard
Sad, but they got chucked by both Trump and Ford. No one is going to spend 25k when they can get the Ford option for 27k and have all the amenities
>>29130025>They are vinyl wrapped from factoryThey are gonna age worse than a white woman then, kek
>>29130699literally all the hottest milfs are white
>>29130435if you want more capability pay more money for your car retard
>>29130435You sound like someone who doesn't need capability and is just comfortable telling himself that it's okay he overpaid.>it can't toooooooooowWho THE FUCK cares? NOBODY who cared about towing bought a Ranger. Towing with a Ranger is this novelty where the Ranger owner buys a fridge and moves it to their house by themselves.Literally every complaint boils down to something like that.
>>29130727Just because you've never done anything with a truck (or with your life) doesn't mean the rest of us haven't. Towing a camper, boat, or utility trailer is part and parcel of the truck value proposition. Even that hermaphrodite Maverick can be factory equipped with a towing package.
>>29130736>Just because YOUPredictable.Virtually nobody does shit with a light truck like a Ranger. Fact. Almost all Ranger owners tow a riding lawnmower at most.
>>29130739>gets offended when called out specifically>feels qualified to speak for every Ranger owner everlet me know your shipping address and I'll send along picrel to plug up your unused hitch receiver.
>>29129433useless LGBT trashcall me when they make a full size double cab version
>>29129589Of the few people I know that buy new trucks half bought base modelsI went with a WT cause it was a NA crew cab standard bed for 42,000
>>29129433An EV Miata at that price would have been more enticing. In fact, it might BTFO Porsche so hard, they bring back ICE Cayman.
>>29129433>more than $15,000lollmao
>>29131694A literal golf cart is over $15k. People who think these will actually sell for the $20k or whatever are fucking delusional.
>>29131706>A literal golf cart is over $15k.nah
>>29131862Yah?
>>29129519I paid $6k for a reliable toyota truck in 2020+5
>>29132059retard
>>29129519This is not a country for white men to get their businesses up and going, this country is the protector and servant now of the existing companies.
>>29130742Nearly every truck I see has a completely empty bed and no trailer. They’re all just lifted brodozers for compensating manchildren and you know it.
>>29133882>anecdotal worldviewLet's take your premise at face value. How often does someone need to use a feature of their vehicle to justify its existence? 10% of the time? 5%? Should there be a roof down mandate for all convertible owners? Require everyone with third row seating to carry seven passengers once a month? >brodozers It's ok to say you hate trucks. We don't take you seriously already.
>>29133905NTA. Convertible owner here. If it's not raining and it's warmer than 15°C then the roof stays down; if there's direct sunlight the temperature threshold is lowered to 10°C. Only exception to this rule is when I'm expecting to travel on the highway for more than 15' because wind noise gets unbearable after a while. Why one would accept the compromises of a convertible if he won't use the one feature the car revolves around? Similarly, moving a huge ass vehicle just to haul your single ass around is retarded.Underutilizing a feature you paid hard cash for at the end of the day is wasteful, unless you're enamored more with the idea than the functionality, which is fine, but at least let's not pretend capabilities play a role in the picture.
Tonight-James drives a Slate wrapped to look like EVA Unit-01
>>29136232Is James fucking his social media manager?
>>29136512Pretty sure his social media manager has a heckin valid penis.
>>29129562nta but you are mentally retarded.
>>29136232>wrapped to look like EVA Unit-01uh-huh sure
>>29129534This. What the fuc is the point of marketing a cheap car? People who need cheap cars buy used. You can get a used truck for like $10k.
>>29136512James prefers a woman who needs Lurpak in the bedroom, plenty of it.
>>29138591he might still flood Lucy's cowling on the side
>>29129433I like it but need and EV with enough towing for a car trailer that's not as much as a Porsche.
I'd be interested in one used for like 10k or under to replace my element if it get totaled or a gas price apocalypse makes it unreasonable to drive. The one with SUV topper on it would be a good replacement >poverty spec like my element >plastic interior like my element >no back seats like my element >aggressive regen like my 4.75:1 gearing and engine braking my element>split gate like my element >can't tow shit like my element >smol square car like my element
It will be so fucking funny if Telo beat them to market.
>>29130430>looks like shit and costs $300 a month in fuel to operate
>>29130736For me, it's 4x4. It's a fucking insult this truck is RWD only.
>>29138866The bigger issue with a truck like that is reliability. The main perk of EVs is that there's not really anything that can go wrong with the drivetrain (barring any manufacturing defects anyway like hyundais ICCUs). They are too simple and reliable so you know you will never be out of transportation. Older ICE vehicles break down all the time for a bunch of reasons. Old seals and stuff just dry rot at that age. Stuff like alternators are wear items that can randomly crap out on you. Transmissions can crap out on you, lots of stuff that can go wrong on an ICE vehicle, and it usually does at some point especially on the old ones.
>>29138883And I’ll still deal with those problems versus ever buying a gaylectric vehicle
>>29138873if it was dual motor 4x4 and was rated for 4 or 5k lbs towing it would be an instant buy for me
>>29136512He has to be
>>29129519You can buy a truck for under 1k, I’ve gotten many trucks for that much, I recently got a 22r Toyota pickup for free and it ran and everything
>>29138902Your sillyism blinds you, little one. You prefer to trudge in the muddy sand instead of taking the installed road. You refuse power tools and stick to your hammer. You have become the boomer you said you would never be. Transformed into wooshing kids off your lawn instead of having your own. It happens quick, it happens fast. But all is reversible.
