    >>
    >>29125281
    How?
    >>
    >>29125651
not him but i agree with SOME of it
no one would call a 3000GT a supercar, if there was ever a jap coupe that's the definition of a grand tourer that would be it, even with a cool racing livery and all. TVR stuff exists in its own bubble lacking the (supposed) refinement or exclusivity of 'super' cars, more "oi m8 gimme a quid an' you too can hit 200MPH with booger welds an' a cuppa", somehow not unique among brits because AC, mosler, etc all exist too. however the miata was obviously posted as a joke and by replying to it seriously, he confirms his own autism and nullifies the whole post
    >>
    >>29126011
*mosler is floridian. i forgot which one i was actually thinking of. morgan?
    >>
    >>29126011
    Okay, fair take.
So then I ask, what makes a car, a 'supercar'?
Exotic body design? High performance engine? 0-60 in <2.5 seconds? Built instead of bought? All of the above?
Not asking just to mess around, just genuinely curious.
    >>
    >>29126043
Exclusivity, probably. It's self fueling hart fuffing unrelated to performance or mechanicals, hence why Corvettes that spank supercars are never considered supercars themselves. Not that definitions don't change over time, what we usually call muscle cars now were called super cars in the press of the day.

The air never gets redirected to the front splitter when your hood is completely level with the ground. It completely ignores it, so the air just keeps going straight and smashes into the windshield at full speed without ever going over the car, lifting the nose up.
    >>
    >>29126128
ohhh, i kinda get it now
in retrospect the area where hood meets windshield is really clunky, it looks like a school bus
    >>
    >>29126077
If exclusiveness is the real defining trait, what would seperate a super car from a luxury car? Or what about production numbers, would a car be super if its exclusiveness comes from being just in general obscure and not having many made?

I think the take that a super car is a car which cannot be tuned further is the actual answer. Corvettes arn't supers but beat supers because as a platform they can be heavily tuned beyond stock configuration, while some flavor of lambo is already fairly pushed with what it can get away with.
    >>
    >>29125355
They did a lot more media for the equally limited Senna aka yet another boring track special, up to and including bribing Forza to put it into their next game as the hero car. They could stand out from the rest with the Speedtail, instead all the coverage it got was that its top speed was electronically limited because unlike Bugatti they don't trust the tires- same tires ze germans used to set the record.

yes, modern "luxury cars" have an obsession with rubber band tires, launch assist and nurburgring times. no, i do not approve of this, and if it were up to me they wouldn't be called luxury cars, but a third, new thing i do not have a name for. the performance of luxury cars of the past was of the subdued, "there if you need it" type. even if the car had a 7L V8, print ads would still mention how it was so quiet and smooth you wouldn't even think about it (i'm remembering one exact ad for I think Lincoln but can't find it at the moment)
    >I think the take that a super car is a car which cannot be tuned further is the actual answer. Corvettes arn't supers but beat supers because as a platform they can be heavily tuned beyond stock configuration, while some flavor of lambo is already fairly pushed with what it can get away with.
no offense but that's bullshit, cars can always be tuned and modified further
hell, lambos and other exotics especially. joe schmo on the street or mohammad al'haseen bin'driveen un-da-weed aren't driving the epitome of the car (the oil guys probably own one, but it just sits in storage next to their 400 other ferraris)

Speaking of New NSX (and the Hybrid Hyper car trio in general) it seems these cars don't get discussed anymore. when the 918, P1, and Laferrari came out, everyone was talking about them. now, they're practically over shadowed by more mundane mid engine cars. the 911 itself completely made the 918 obsolete. the new NSX came out and everyone shit on it for being a hybrid, but now look where the industry is. V6 Hybrid Mclaren, V6 Hybrid Ferrari, and the fastest car around the nurburgring is a V6 hybrid.

The New NSX was way ahead of its time. people only just now realize that its setup was the new meta for super cars and all of motorsports.

    >>
    >>29134327
    No, they did not.

Again, they only made one if you include the prototype. The concept, design and intention of the XJ220 was never carried to fruition. Fastest road car in the world with AWD and a V12 engine drivetrain. That was what was marketed and advertised from 1988 Birmingham Motor Show onwards with its reveal and pre-orders. When TWR took the contract for production they said they could never deliver the design as was promised, so they completely redesigned the XJ220 to the point that it was a completely different vehicle. The only thing that was kept was the rolling chasis itself, but the actual hard mechanics were completely different from the prototype and what was advertised too buyers. It went from a V12 to a V6 engine, and AWD to RWD.

It was so bad and egregious that Jaguar went to court over it as several buyers refused to pay final instalments due to the fact they were falsely advertised a car that Jaguar could make, but chose not to because TWR were not equipped to fulfill the contract they willingly took on.

So no, they didn't make almost 300 of them. They never even made a production model.

The F1 chassis was CFRP. Not Kevlar. The only part of the F1 that used Kevlar were the suction fans.

Carbon isn't plastic. This is why you failed chemistry.

The XJR-15 used carbon and kevlar in a riveted cell. The rear subframe also used steel uprights for structure to hold everything together. At the very least, it can at least still technically count as a monocoque since the top half of the cell makes up the roof of the car. which is more than you can say about the Mega.

    >>
    >>29137303
Cope harder, numbuts. The fibers are what determine the strength of Kevlar and CFRP. Carbon is not going to be a plastic no matter how much you want it to be.

    >they used plastic, but in a slightly different way!
    >>29137312
Carbon itself isn't, but they're still using plastic regardless for the end result. it's still made out of plastic. it's still called a reinforced plastic.

it isn't the load barring material, retard, its the glue

thats entirely different considering plastic itself cannot do what carbon fiber does
    >>
    >>29137324
    >it's still called a reinforced plastic.
lol. Just see if you can make a reliable polymer car chassis without any reinforcement material.

    Lmao even.

but none of those super cars are made out of "plastic itself" and The F1 didn't do anything any of those other cars couldn't.

    >none of those super cars are made out of "plastic itself"
Kevlar is literally just plastic, shithead. If they use kevlar in the chassis, then it's no longer full carbon fiber like the F1.
    >>
    >>29137385
none of those cars use only kevlar in the chassis, retard. so they are in fact, only slightly different at using their plastic reinforcement than the F1.
    >>
    >>29137389
    >none of those cars use only kevlar in the chassis, retard.
    Nobody ever said that, retard.
    >>
    >>29137424
so why did you try disputing my statement with your retarded response? the F1 was not far beyond anything. it used plastic slightly differently than the other cars.
    >>
    >>29137433
    >so why did you try disputing my statement with your retarded response?
Because you're a retard that continuouslly and predictably demonstrates that he doesn't understand engineering and material science to understand what "full CFRP monocoque chassis" actually means and why those other cars were not like the F1. Even when you get corrected, your ego does not let you ascend to being a less-shitty human and still believes that carbon is a plastic polymer.
    >>
    >>29137444
it doesn't mean anything. you're splitting hairs over a car that wasn't far beyond anything. You don't even know how much kevlar was used in those cars, or if they even truly used them at all (sources even contradict each other).

you're a retarded fanboy grasping for straws. you also lack reading comprehension. I didn't say carbon was plastic, the F1 is a reinforced plastic not very different from the cars that came before it. this is a fact.
    >>
    >>29137449
    >it doesn't mean anything. you're splitting hairs
They're important and distinctive hairs which is what you willfully ignore. Carbon fibers have WAY more tensile strength and rigidity than kevlar fibers.

    >over a car that wasn't far beyond anything.
The F1 clearly was beyond everything else you mentioned. That's a major part of why it gets regarded as a milestone over other cars that never amounted to anything.

    >You don't even know how much kevlar was used in those cars, or if they even truly used them at all
When the sources say "sandwiched with kevlar" it's a pretty affirming indicator of how it was used. Photos of the bare chassis also show whether or not they are fully CFRP, use steel subframes, or a monocoque.
    >>
    >>29137469
    >They're important and distinctive hairs which is what you willfully ignore
They aren't. even the press doesn't bother distinguishing between them. they even call them similar and compare them while you sit here and claim they were not like the F1.
    >Carbon fibers have WAY more tensile strength and rigidity than kevlar fibers.
But those cars also contained carbon fiber, if they were purely kevlar, (which they weren't). maybe you'd have a point. do you even know the torsional rigidity measurements of those competing vehicles? they aren't any less stiff, they aren't any heavier. what real world practical difference is there actually? fuck all. it's a meaningless way to say you did something slightly different.
    >The F1 clearly was beyond everything else you mentioned
Far beyond them in clout? yes. technology and engineering which is what we're talking about? no. the press compares them and deems them similar.
    >When the sources say "sandwiched with kevlar"
what sources? this source, for example, explaining the history of the Centenaire doesn't even mention kevlar. it calls it carbon fiber.
    https://monochrome-watches.com/the-petrolhead-corner-1990-monte-carlo-automobile-mca-centenaire-fulvio-maria-ballabio-lamborghini-v12-broad-arrow-auctions-zoute-grand-prix/
    >whether or not they are fully CFRP, use steel subframes, or a monocoque.
this is what I mean by splitting hairs. they're still comparable, and all of the press talking about them compared them to the F1.
    >>
    >>29137482
    >even the press doesn't bother distinguishing between them.
Right, because we all know that press journos always print truth and never misreported anything ever.

    >they even call them similar
Then they're just as dumb as you are.

    >and compare them
Valid. Kevlar has use cases where CFRP is not as good, but that's far beyond anything you're prepared to understand. As far as claims that a chassis is "fully carbon fiber monocoque" when it's not is a completely different argument.
    >>
    >>29137496
    >Right, because we all know that press journos always print truth and never misreported anything ever.
how is it a misreport to call them similar? you can't even fundamentally distinguish between them.
    >it's a reinforced plastic but the plastic is reinforced with entirely carbon instead carbon and something else
nigger, that's the best you can do? no shit they aren't going to autistically fixate on this nothing-burger of a difference.
    >Then they're just a big stoopid doo doo-head
    cope
    >Kevlar has use cases where CFRP
why do you just say "kevlar" like we are comparing straight kevlar to carbon fiber when those cars are also using a reinforced plastic that also contains carbon fiber (if they even contain ANY kevlar at all).

    >how is it a misreport to call them similar?
Because they are not similar. Carbon is not plastic. Kevlar is not CFRP. We'll keep going restating that until you get it through your thick head, nigger.
    >>
    >>29138561
    >something that uses carbon fiber in its reinforced plastic is not similar to something that is straight carbon fiber
it objectively is, you fucking retard.
