Land Rover single handedly stopped the Crossover Borg from destroying all old school offroad capable SUVs. The success of the Land Rover Defender caused Ford to resurrect the Bronco. The Defender also caused Toyota to refresh the Land Cruiser Prado to be boxier looking like the original Land Cruiser & also caused Toyota to bring the Land Cruiser back to the US Market. The Nissan Xterra is making a comeback as well, all thanks to the success of the Land Rover Defender!

An American that's adopted the European's delusions of grandeur. A rare sight to behold.

Pray tell OP, do you have evidence for any of this that isn't conjecture?
    >>
    >>29109929

The Bronco came out right after the Defender. The Defender proved that Consumers could tell the difference between Offroad SUVs and non-Offroad SUVs & make purchases accordingly.

I think the proliferation of crossovers and CUVs would serve to prove you wrong on that one.
Idk man you're laying a lot at the feet of a brand most people don't really think about at all.
    >>
    hmm its ok
    >>
    >>29109914
suvs are just as gay as cuckovers

The only people I see driving defenders are suburban house wives
    >>
    >>29109914
I thought the Bronco was brought to market to compete with the Wrangler.

At any rate, all of these 4 door off-road vehicles are used for the same thing as the crossovers: picking up kids from soccer practice, grocery trips, etc.
    >>
    >>29110079
But if you're going to pay extra money for an SUV over a minivan, why not make sure that the SUV actually has real offroad 'Sport Utility Vehicle' capacity?
    >>
    >>29109989
    >brand most people don't really think about at all.

Automakers definitely think about Land Rover a lot, because it's very profitable & it puts out real SUVS with offroad capacity in contrast to the average crossover that theoretically can be equipped with offroad equipment, even though most manufacturers never bother with it.

Mercedes Benz has tried to kill the G-Class for decades in an attempt to force everyone to drive the GLS Class instead, but customers keep threatening to go to Land Rover & so Mercedes is forced to keep it alive.

all the offroad capability of a mildly lifted subaru, and the fuel economy of one too
    >>

    Doug does.
    >>
The offroad capable SUV was only under threat in first world markets where offroading is seen as a sport and not how you get home.

Offroad capable SUVs are still alive and well in shitholes with rough terrain. The government in my country ONLY purchases pickups and BOF suvs unless it is for a specific purpose that requires a van or small car. Even the ministry of education buys fontiers and hiluxes as standard cars
    >>
    >>29110261

land rover offroad capability is actually comparable to that of a land cruiser or a hilux.

Evoque & the Discovery Sport don't count, but the other models are designed to be offroad capable & are extensively tested.

Apologize to 2000s box cars. They were right all along.

    Grenadier way cooler
    >>
    >>29110887
It's the capability, my dude, not the shape. Your lifted Accord wagon does not belong in the same conversation as the Defender, Wrangler, or Bronco.
    >>
    It was the Flex
    >>
    >>29111167
ford could reintroduce the flex as an EV and probably get away with the exact same styling and a new interior

    >>

    why not?
    >>
    >>29110142
    >why not make sure that the SUV actually has real offroad 'Sport Utility Vehicle' capacity?
Because the people driving them have no need for that and don't care about it at all.
    >>

We already have enough electric toys on the road
    >>
    >>29116071
What if it replaced the "Mustang" Mach E?
    >>
    >>29116180
NTA, but while I don't care for the Mach E, I also don't see much issue with it. Unlike a lot of other models, they've merely borrowed the nameplate and stuck it on another car, rather than replacing said model wholesale. We still have a "proper" mustang, so who cares if Ford uses the name elsewhere in addition.

Have you seen minivans lately? The Chrysler Pacifica is 45k. That’s the same price as a Big Bend trim level Bronco with a hard top. And it’s a god damned Chrysler so you know it’s going to explode.
    >>
    >>29111203
Honestly that would be pretty perfect for me. I don’t need to rock climb. I just want spacious back seats, long wheel base, above average ground clearance, and true 4WD for snow and pulling an 18 foot trailer.

If you want to go off road, buy a Land Rover.
If you want to come back home, buy a Land Cruiser.

Idk why they had to destroy Defender.
Just keeping old design and they could still sell shitton to all govt agencies, military, police, UN... there's war in Ukraina.
They just left it all to Toyota in order to jew out Defender name to the bottom with "Defender" SUV fashion accessory.

I also like how they used smaller than stock tires for promo photo on old defender because even the normies would have started noticing gigantic difference in ground clearance. Those are like 6.00x16 instead of very tall stock 7.50x16.
