Can someone tell me what Japanese residential streets are called? I’ve never been to Japan but in videos and anime I keep seeing these narrowish neighborhood streets that lead right up to people’s houses. They’re super walkable even though they almost never have sidewalks, people just walk down the middle of the road. Doors basically open onto the street and there’s almost no on-street parking so the whole thing feels open and free. What’s the actual name for this style of street/layout? Is there a specific term or is it just "normal Japanese residential street"?

    It's the front.
    >>
Most streets in the third world look like that, even france has a good chunks of neighborhoods looking like that
That's just what unplanned working class neighborhoods end up looking like after some decades, my shithole country has those in the slums and also gated posh communities

Because in japan you don't have to be afraid you'll get knifed by some diverse lad like in Europe or the US

japan is inherently superior due to their ethnically homogeneous culture

You should see what an urban back alley looks like in America.
    >>
I like the concept of not having sidewalks, so that pedestrian and car traffic are mixed and cars have be mindful of pedestrians. Of course this would never work in 3rd world shitholes like the US because HFCS-brained drivers would just run people over

it's either an alley (if it is not meant for non-local traffic) or simply a street (if through traffic is permitted and/or tolerated)

I was in Japan and one part of the city, I only saw Indian people. They weren't even dressed like normal people, like the American ones, they were dressed like someone grabbed them off the street of Delhi.

Half of Jews are Mizrahi, which look like any other Middle Easterners.

Pedestrians dominate these, so it feels more like a 4m wide sidewalk. Opposite of claustrophobic, really.

    Hello rajeesh
    >>
    >>2083224
No you're always trying to dodge bikes that are coming at you in both directions. Plus there's usually that yellow strip for blind people that you're not supposed to walk on and people intrinsically will ride/bike on one side and you're given even less space for walking. Not the street in OP necessarily but the streets in Japan were genuinely claustrophobic for me
    >>
    >>2084108
Also most residential streets in Japan don't even have sidewalks so you have cars and mopeds you're also trying to dodge constantly. It sucks
