    >take job interview
    >"Do you have Reliable Transportation?"

How do you explain that your bike is "Reliable Transportation" in the High Figgies Job Interview?
    >>
Many years of unemployment have taught me the painful lesson of lying to get the job, then do whatever you want and dare them to fire you.
    >>
I'd be like no, I would not consider the MTA "reliable" per se but Americans will settle for anything if the alternative is framed as "communism"
    >>
    >>2076284
They should see your Lycra and know that you're Fast.
    >>
    >>2076284
Remember that businesses look for normal people so they don't want off-the-wall excuses and you need to reason why you ride a bicycle. Usually people who ride bicycles as their main form of transportation are college students, poor people, and people with some unusual circumstance that prevents them from using a car, like too many DUIs. Your options are pretty limited

    >I'm poor
That might work for a while until you can get "real money" than you'll be seen as a weirdo for using a bicycle.
    >I have too many DUIs
    Never admit this.
    >I'm disabled
This won't work as if you had a documented disability you could get your top pick in transit including dial-a-ride services. Plus if you're disabled it opens up a can of worms about what you can do and can't do, and reasonable accommodation.
    >I have an ideological opposition to driving a car
Businesses look for people who can pose as normal or the "right kind" of quirky. This is not one of them.
    >>
Yeah, I ride a bike. I rode a bike to my last job too. Picrel, here's my bike.
    >>
    >>2076308
You're missing a 5th option which is being a fitness nut which businesses look favorably upon as it shows discipline.

    >Do you have reliable transportation
Yes, it's called a bicycle, I'm also prepared to use public transport as necessary for this job
    >Why?
Because gas is expensive and I need the exercise

that's all you need to say, Christ everyone here is so autistic it's unreal
    >>
    >>2076284
I ride an e-bike, so no, it's not very reliable, but you're hiring a tech, so I can fix that shit in the morning anyway. I have access to the company DigiKey account, right?
    >>
    >>2076284
I really hate that nonsense. 90% of the shit that goes wrong on my bike I can fix easily and quickly, how many people can say that about their cars? I almost didn't get one of my first jobs because they were concerned about my ability to get to work, I was never even late in a year and a half at the job but at least once a month someone would miss an entire shift because their car wouldn't start.
    >>
    >>2076316
    >at least once a month someone would miss an entire shift because their car wouldn't start.
this happened to me with an ebike once but even then I was like "I can pedal it and I'll be only `on time` instead of early but hella sweaty"

they told me i could just stay home to try to troubleshoot it if i spent a vacation day. i spent the day getting very drunk instead

i have like 60k in savings and it's mostly from not having expenses beyond rent, utilities, and telephony. i dont make much either
    >>
The only acceptable answer is "yes". The purpose of the question is to make a statement to the employee that having transportation issues isn't considered a valid reason to be late or miss a shift.

I've never been asked this question. I make 170k. I have multiple cars. I ride my bike to work more than half the time.

And also to weed out the dumb asses that mooch off of their spouse/partner/parent/sibling/roommate/Uber/neighbor/local crackhead. Because no matter how often they claim that their ride is totally reliable, they always end up late more often than being on time. Always.
    >>
    That's none of your business
    >>
    >>2076284
    >"Do you have Reliable Transportation?"
just say “yes”. if they press the issue say you have a car, even if it’s a lie. once you’re hired you won’t get fired for showing up on a bike as long as you’re on time.
    >>
    >>2076500
    this except a velomobile
    >>
    >>2076533
    Pretty much this.
    >good healthy cardio
    >muscle building
    >can sometimes beat rush hour traffic
    >use trails to get to work quicker
automobilfats hate this one simple strategy.
    >>
    >>2076284
    >High Figgies
don't inquire about reliable transportation because they assume you have a car like a functional adult.
    >>
    >>2076284
The answer is yes. Did you just turn up in lycra and a hat to a proper interview.
    >>
    >>2076284
I have never been asked this outside college kid insternships, it just hasn't even been a question. Of course I own a car, I'm not a fucken bum. Multiple people ride their bikes to work a lot of the time at my office. They all own more than one car too.
    >>
    >>2076316
If you aren't a poorfag incel you have at least two cars. Wife has one and your kid has one, too. So at least four cars in a normal and healthy family, they won't all break down at once, right?
    >>
    >>2076284
    steel
    IS real
    >>
A "high figgies" position does not ask you that question. Dogshit jobs that pay you by the hour and a manager texts you to come in for a shift in 15 minutes ask you that.

Also it doesn't say "car" dumbass, it just says "reliable". You just answer "yes" unless you're a fucking idiot.
    >>
    >>2076284
    "Yes."
    >>
    >>2076284
Literally just say "yeah, I live in biking/walking distance. no problem"
You're not committing to any specific form of transport but at the same time reassuring them that even if your hypothetical car breaks down you'll be able to show up.
    >>
    >>2076309
If I saw my subordinate on one of these I would fire him on the spot.
    >>
    >>2080816
    t. middle manager who can't actually sack people
    >>
    >>2076284
As for reliable transportation, my employer doesn't ask that as a matter of form. BUT interviews are full of flexible situational questions, so if the interviewer hints that you have NO CAR, then they will ask about your transportation situation. My employer doesn't care what you use as long as you reliably arrive in presentable condition. Riding a bicycle in the rain means you show up wet to work and that is NOT acceptable for the workplace.

And yes, we do have people that regularly bicycle to work and they change clothes completely to avoid wearing sweaty clothing in the workplace. Reliably on time and presentable is what the workplace needs.
