>>43667809I've been watching through TNG and I'm continually impressed by the writing, to say nothing of the acting. You can really tell Faust was deeply influenced by it on every level. One of the biggest things for me is that it shows what a functional, balanced, healthy hierarchy could look like, committed to doing good for all people; which really comes as a shock in today's day and age where every authority seems sick and oppressive. Faust's G4 carries this forth with the altruistic and diplomatic Princess Celestia, who expresses Picard's steadfast compassion and humanity through the means of Twilight and her friends. The other major influence is just the character-first writing, which Star Trek executes beautifully. The epic lore isn't central to the writing, in TNG and Faust's MLP, it's just a background where the characters accomplish their goals and encounter their difficulties (this is something the later seasons completely lost touch with). Both shows are mostly episodic, returning to the status quo after most episodes. I expect there would have been a lot more slow-burn changes and evolutions if Faust knew that she had plenty of time to let things unfold rather than just one season. Anyways yeah Patrick Stewart was truly a powerhouse of that show, in both acting and directing. It's sad to hear that he passed, Captain Picard is already burned into my mind as a role model and I'm not even finished watching it yet.
