Do you consider these three separate cutie marks, or all the same cutie mark? Canonically they're the latter, though I have heard people say that actually they're all different and the Crusaders each have two special talents, unlike everypony else. I think that's dumb, but let's talk about it.

That's a crack, not a lightning bolt, and Scootaloo's special talent is being a cripple forever. Anyway, they obviously have different designs, and I assume they imply that each of them have their own way of guiding others toward their destinies. It might even be inferred that they share one talent between them, and that they'd all fail at their job if they didn't work together.

I was asking for a discussion about these cutie marks, specifically about if you think they count as three different ones or three of the same. Bitchmoaning about them is irrelevant and off topic.
    >>
    >>43661151
I would say they got separate talents but in same "family". So similar to Apple family themed. They were so close they became in the eyes of the cutie marks family. Separated by talent, but kindship in theme. Probably an obvious and not deep though out answer or analysis from me.
But would their children get same themed cutiemark or would this be an one off happening? I think it was a one off happening, or really rare.
    >>
    >>43661179
That's an odd interpretation. My interpretation was that no two cutie marks can look exactly the same, and the inner symbols are just for decoration, while the shield is the real symbol.
    >>
I mean, simplifying down cutie marks to just 'your special talent' was always dumb. Applejack's talents go well beyond being good with apples.

Nah you can post as long as you're actually on topic. People who are haters usually aren't.

The source is the cmc literally say it when they get them, and they are the experts after all. Plus, the show has always made it very clear that cutie marks each only represent one thing. And we never really see them using the inner symbols as like, a Special Talent you know? Like they use their other talents, but the one that always feels special is when they use what the shield represents. And that's clearly their destiny, to crusade together forever.
    >>
    >>43661205
Well Applejack's mark is supposed to represent her connection to her family, not just being good at picking apples. It's ones like Rainbow Dash or Rarity that have a simple special talent cutie mark. Rarity's passion is tailoring, yet her mark is just about her gem finding ability, and Dash's is about going fast, which granted seems to be her life passion, but still, Life passion and special talent being one in the same really doesn't help the perception of cutie marks people have.

Similar to AJ's CM referring to her sense of belonging despite picturing apples, Rarity's CM might refer to her sense of adding glamour to something, especially via adding gemstones or using valuable materials. Despite her gem-finding spell, she sucks at mining, needing either Spike, D. Dogs or the Sonic Rainboom to do the work for her.

    >Yes, no. No, yes no, no. Yes, no.
    Glad I could help
    >>
    >>43664441
Cozy Glow agreed with me that the CMCs’ Cutie Marks should’ve been changed.
    >>
Cutie marks vary wildly in how literal or symbolic they are, and in how much they can reveal about a pony's destiny. For instance, Shining Armor's cutie mark is a shield and three stars. His destiny is obviously as a protector based on the shield, but it's pretty easy as a viewer to interpret the three stars as representing his family - either himself, his wife, and his daughter, or perhaps his wife, his daughter, and his sister. His destiny is specifically to protect his family, but there's no way anyone would be able to tell that back when he first got his mark. For another example, Twilight's cutie mark represents magic, but with the five white sparkles around her main sparkle, it also represents her becoming an element of harmony and befriending the rest of the mane six, something that can also only be understood in retrospect.
In the same way, I think the symbols inside the shields represent something about the CMC that hasn't happened yet, but is destined to happen. Their talent/destiny is helping others find/understand their cutie marks, and we know that when ponies get their marks together/from the same event (like the mane six did) it means their destinies are intertwined in some way. So while I don't think they have secondary talents necessarily, I do think that they have separate destinies as individual ponies. Destinies that will involve each other heavily and ultimately revolve around helping others find their marks, but still will be unique to each of them.
    >>
    >>43664634
Nah. That would be too obvious wouldn't it? I didn't even really notice the star shit that Twily and Shiny have.
    >>
    >>43661151
I think the cutie marks have too many colors and extra random details. even rainbow dash only has 5 colors where as this has 6. also some reason. they would all be improved if you just erase the star, heart and wing. those symbols dont mean anything
    >>
We never really get to see to much about it but AB really deserves better than that mark and the apple family. I mean the heart is a valuable symbol historically and maybe the mark is meant to show her overcoming that background without losing that connection, and that'd be perfectly good and sensible, it's just one of those things that feels bitter because there's no statement after.
    >>43661151
    >Canonically they're the latter
Source? Because the CMC saying that they got the same mark isn't really a definitive claim. If anything, the CMC not really having a strong grasp on what exactly a cutie mark is and how they work is a pretty consistent point about them.
    >I have heard people say that actually they're all different and the Crusaders each have two special talents, unlike everypony else. I think that's dumb
You're right, that is dumb. The idea of a cutie mark as a single specific special talent isn't really supported by the text and both CMC episodes and the S5 opening go over this fairly explicitly.
    >>43665682
    >That would be too obvious wouldn't it?
    No?
A good explanation shouldn't be dismissed because it's a good explanation lmao. For all the concern about anons trolling you sure don't seem like you're interested in actually engaging with the topic. I don't really think getting your marks at the same time means that you MUST have a shared destiny since it's n=1, but the CMC do seem like likely candidates for that anyway even if it's not a cosmic rule.
    >>
    >>43665716
    >AB deserves better than the best cutie mark ever
What mark would you give her? Nigguh?
    >>
    >>43661151
    >Canonically they're the latter

The CMCs say it's the same in Crusaders of the Lost Mark. In The Last Crusade, Scootaloo's father points out the differences anyone with lying eyes can see and says that's not true after they make this argument, and makes an interpretive statement about them.

Earlier in Appleoosa's Most Wanted, Trouble Hooves assumes his cutie mark is bad luck based directly on what it looks like, but the lesson of the episode is that your lot in life(for ponies, their cuties marks, their destiny and talents) are what you make of them after the CMCs change his perspective(this directly leads to them earning their cutie marks after helping Diamond Tiara in the same way).

So is what the CMCs said canon? How would you go about determining this?
    >>
    >>43661198
I think "it's just decorative and means nothing" is a much weirder interpretation than acknowledging what we see before and after - that the CMCs are very different characters with very different talents and perspectives that they apply to their problem solving and shared destiny while those symbols are directly related to who they are, the user's crippled comment aside.

Are we just saying Crusaders of the Lost Mark is a retcon of Show Stoppers an every episode thereafter? Do you understand that the CMCs have a dynamic they all play a pretty specific role in, and create, I don't know some kind of Harmony? It's weird that this would be acknowledged in their cutie marks because...?
    >>
    >>43661151
    Separate.
    They have distinctly different designs.

Sad that they were treated as the same thing though; the potential for CMC episodes was horrendously squandered after they got those marks (though not because of them), and even in Haber's future they're just shunted into being teachers.

If I was replacing Season 9 with my own S9 & S10, I'd genuinely consider having the inner part of the marks change color after they realize their more individual strengths. Which of course, requires them to have more individual-centered episodes, but that's honestly where the CMC are most lacking. Pair them with characters other than the trio or their sisters for a change.

I've always wondered what Cozy Glow's cutie mark could have possibly indicated if marks don't predestine ponies for evil. Her talent is manipulation.
    >>
    >>43661151
I consider them slightly different, tailored to their different personalities, but they still represent their connection with each other like how Twilight's cutie mark represents her destined connection with the m6.

    >>43661182
Trvke, Gabby is a heckin cute birb

    >>43661224
They don't really mean it literally. The inner symbols represent their different personalities and interests.

    >>43663729
    >""potential""
AKA the basic talents they were implied to have in Showstoppers. Have you never stopped to think ponies can have multiple talents?
Cutie marks aren't just the talent, they represent who the pony is and the CMCs are much more than "sing good".
    >>
    >>43661151
they're the exact same cutie mark and that's what makes them shit, they're representative of the later seasons, and what makes those later seasons shit
Twilight and her friends were all connected by the same event, and derived their cutie marks from it, but they didn't get the same cutie mark cause they all wanted to do and be something different from each other
Haber and his shit gave the cmc the same cutie mark and essentially killed off the idea of them being seperate from each other, all but taking away their agency
the mane 6 are friends because they hang out with each other despite their difference in personalities and goals, with these cutie marks the cmc are essentially relegated to being chained to each other and never pursuing their own dreams outside of just helping other people achieve what will help them be fulfilled in life
remember Sweetie Belle's love of singing? gone
Scootaloo's love of riding her scooter? gone
Applebloom's connection to the farm? gone
all thrown into the meat grinder of Haber's shitty late seasons attempts at "stories"

Cozy Glow acted in service of an evil goal, and didn't care if she hurt people/actively enjoyed hurting people. That's what makes her evil. Her cutie mark just represents her ability to read people and situations, and speak/act in such a way that sways the situation in her favor. Which...yeah, ok, that is just kind of a nicer way to phrase "manipulation", now that I think about it, but still, that ability isn't inherently evil, that's a skill a lot of totally normal people have or go out of their way to hone. If she had a sense of morals and ethics to go along with her talent, then she would have just become something like a highly skilled lawyer, or a politician, or a business pony, a negotiator, a diplomat... so many options that aren't inherently evil that would play well to her skills.

Despite how the characters treat it, the CMC's cutie marks looking similar shouldn't even be super notable in-universe, at least not to the extent they act like it is. Lotus and Aloe have literally identical cutie marks, and Flim and Flam have cutie marks that very clearly go together (an apple with a small slice missing, and the missing slice, coming together to represent an unfair deal). Maybe it's just notable because it usually doesn't happen to ponies who aren't identical twins. Or maybe background ponies and minor antagonists just don't count.
