The first Warcraft 3 custom game is officially released and ready to play!

PONE Empire Wars 3.0 (12-player version; not recommended)
https://u.pone.rs/rxpynlbv.zip

PONE Mini Empires 2.4 (7-player version; RECOMMENDED!)
https://u.pone.rs/tofymkub.zip

A guide made by an anon:

(He made the 1.27b installation guide much simpler (3 steps). The scripts are much cleaner overall so you might want to download the new zips.)

In the current game, I basically let you play as the Mane 6 characters as heroes, but in PONE Empires they are basically commander units that give your soldiers buffs.

>Sometimes I fear this project won't amount to much after investing so much into it
That’s why I told you that your goal shouldn’t be to revolutionize the fandom or the wc3 gaming scene, but rather to make your own small contribution to the pony content world and build a small group of anons willing to play a few matches every week or two
This is especially relevant considering that, despite its fame, the game is quite hard for a casual player to get into, not to mention it’s old, and you’re only offering the paid version.
The fact that it involves creating custom maps rather than just "replacing skins" doesn’t help (if I’m understanding it correctly)
Even so, the mod is really good, and what matters most is that you’re having fun
Can't wait to see what you're planning next
>>
>>43647184
I never got into Warcraft 3 ... I was a Starcraft 1 faggot. I heard Warcraft 3's map editor was light years ahead of SC1.

What map categories did I miss out on? in SC1 we had Cat n Mouse where you actually had to dodge shit and use the holes correctly.

I do but i'm not paying for it.
>>
Right now it just feels like I need more game variety. As we simply have the one custom game so far.
>>
>>43662779
It's not that i don't want to give it a try. I just don't want to pay for it. I don't like the blizzard client, and have never played WC3 (or RTS) before. I would play the game if it were available for free.
>>
>>43657754
I'm too dumb to play an RTS online.
>>
Anon i think you are too autistic to understand that most anons need it to be free and as ez to setup as possible you won't get any traction on the board, and even then, gaming isn't very popular on the board. The gmod and tf2 servers are only popular because these games are popular and the people there just happen to be into /mlp/. The pony gaming thread has like 25 regular lurkers at most.
>>
IDK what to say.
I am reluctant to try Game Ranger because for #1 I'm more familiar with retail as a long-time Warcraft 3 player and #2 I'm concerned if we'll be able to pack lobbies on Game Ranger.
Ok?
Well... anons...
I'd say to count your pennies? Christmas is coming up.
>>
Surely, if anons can afford to go to conventions and buy plushies, they can afford to buyfag this game someday.
What I think is needed is just to pass the word around a little bit more. I doubt anyone even knows about this project yet.
>>
File: appul look.jpg (18 KB, 397x367)
18 KB JPG
I guess I will try Game Ranger.
I haven't used Game Ranger in so long.
If it means getting some anons to play.
I'm just unsure if we'll be able to fill a 7 player lobby with Game Ranger.
>>
Ok, I did manage to follow that anon's instructions, but will the latest versions work?
I wonder if that anon is still around because I might have to convert the maps to work on this particular version.
>>
I'll be back to look into hosting the free version.
I am hoping that the anon who worked to set up that free version will be around to help convert the newer versions to work on the older version.
I might have to look into that process.
>>
>>43665784
Hi! Yes, converting to the 'free version' (pirated, not really cracked or modded, i just got the key from the internet and it works) is easy, i can do that for you, but i can't guarantee i will be able to do it ASAP. About gameranger, it should be fine, but there's also community private servers that could be used in place of it, i'd need to decide on one of them and update the guide. Either way, there's a few problems i have not considered when i wrote it and i need to edit my guide:
>Tuxfags
While gameranger works fine on windows, i've tried playing online on linux and my current instructions aren't working. There's something missing and i need to investigate this...
>1.27b
I've decided to pick this version because it's simple to just pick it up for adapting the custom map (128mb for map size limit is fine) but i have been considering testing 1.26a for this since most of the classic warcraft community prefer this version over the 3 popular ones (1.26a, 1.27b, 1.28.5) because it's the version they use to play dota 1 and all. I'd need to figure out how to remove the map size limit first.
>>
>>43665737
>latest versions
Nope. Blizzard removed langame support i believe. And all the players must be on the same version in order to play online. If you want widescreen and other newer features i could try setting the guide up for 1.28.5 (for letterbox/stretched, not true native widescreen from what i recall).
>online differences
1.26a and 1.27b have a 250ms buffer for commands. It was reduced to 100ms in 1.28.5 and in newer versions it adapts depending on the player latency. I am not sure of how this works but i think you will not like it if you come from retail. Everyone should be able to play. The networking is not much different from the newer versions. It's still lockstep based but it depends on the host connection, rather than blizzard's cloud servers.
>>
>>43665973
I'm hoping you could convert the two versions here:

PONE Empire Wars 3.0 (12-player version)
https://u.pone.rs/rxpynlbv.zip

PONE Mini Empires 2.4 (7-player version!)
https://u.pone.rs/tofymkub.zip

I have a 12-player version and a 7-player version. We'll likely be using the 7-player version, but who knows? Maybe we'll get enough traction to have like 12 players enjoying this game.
--After all, it is free and easy to install.
I think the only confusing thing about the installation process is the part where you click on the ".bat" file or batch, because I didn't know what that was at first. That and you need to make a Game Ranger account, but that isn't so difficult.
DESU
uh
I haven't even tested the gameplay or tried hosting yet, so I have no idea if this even works, lol.
>>
>>43665697
>>43665701
It's not about the money. Well, maybe for the neets it is. It's about making it as accessible as possible. Some anons never tried the game before and now that there's a pony map they will put it in their 'neat list' and only return to it years later once they decide to try the game. Others just don't like blizzard and won't give them a single penny. And some just aren't that much of a vydiagamer so they don't see it as a priority and will just lurk the thread for information.
>TL;DR
the objective here isn't to simply make anons save on money (kek). It's to make it as easy to get into as possible. That's why i'm working on the guide. You could see this as an opportunity to try oldschool custom games :D
>custom games
I think you are too focusing on making your own custom games which is fine but would be neat to have the popular ones ponified, don't you think?
>>43665987
Sure can do. I was supposed to be busy now but things happened. I will convert them.

>I think you are too focusing on making your own custom games which is fine but would be neat to have the popular ones ponified, don't you think?
I would like to do that, but it's not so simple.
A lot of maps are protected.
Maybe. I'll have to look into it. I actually do have plans for that.
I wanted to make a ponified version of "Drug Smuggler" but call it "Cider Smuggler" with Flim and Flam.
>>
Looks like i'll be busy after all. I will post the adapted maps later.
>>43666046
Hmmm maybe you could focus on the unprotected ones for now. You could also ponify the vanilla melee mode by just switching models and all, with or without custom game. It would be nice to have the base game ponified and not just custom games.
>>

It is. What isn't working is my guide, for TUXFags (linux users) specifically. It works offline but when you try to enter a netgame WC3 is crashing on linux. It's probably missing some DLL. I'll take a look into it later.
