Last year I was very much on the edge about joining at all. I remember getting the confirmation e-mail asking me to reply and few minutes debating if I should use this as final chance to opt back out of participating. Ended up having a great time with the event. Oh Boy! I really like the idea of touching base with a past Santa's to let them know how much they are appreciated! I have very many gifts, and all of them great!There is an amazing ornament that is HEAVY metal with a Lyra cut out. That's gonna go on the tree this year! There's an bead bracelet that is SUPER big and includes a pearleer Spitfire that adorns the hoof of my Spitfire plushie! There's also the most super prog-rock song that was custom made for me on CD that I in fact listen to about once per month like clockwork and enjoy every single time!There is also a Spitfire Themed 3D printed violin! It's in very good shape, and I still love it to death as it hangs on the wall. I have tried to learn to play the instrument, but every time is just frustrating and makes me sad that I can't be as good as this gift deserves... Still! I could always take lessons and keep trying my best. It's a reminder to me that I can always strive to do better!Going back a bit, there is also a Rad Spitfire beach towel that came with a pin and the most amazingly detailed WWII Spitfire model. I have a great big Mr. Paw's Pizzeria hand-made pizza peel. I have a brick with my name on it. I have another, separate brick inside a sock. I have a wooden carving of Derpy and a somewhat lewd custom portrait of my OC... and I have so SO many holiday cards that have gone so far above and beyond as well as a hand-made wooden box to keep them all in! I have drawings and ornaments and stickers and patches and all SORTS of fun stuff that has been sent over the years! I have music and stories and memories... In fact, I think I have just about every single amazing things that could ever be!And I think that's why, after looking back at all the years of love and dedication that this event has shown to me, it's easy to say that the one gift that this event has always given to me has been a smile. I hope that, if it's your first year or your 10'th, you are able to get just a fraction of love and joy that I have received over these long and strange years.With that said, and with a heavy heart, I must inform you that I will be participating in this event again this year. I will say I hope Colt Kringle is looking at all the feedback about these new filter questions and how they should be potentially reconsidered. They were implemented with no warning or explanation and has been causing many anons undue stress over if we are getting filtered or not and this wasn’t the best way to kickoff this event. I get wanting to filter out tourists but the criteria of filtering should have been explained at the beginning and like others have said the questions aren’t even fool proof, I would have made them all about this event, like who is Peanut, or Plony, etc. Newcomers could still check the archives for the answers but then they can at least see and learn about the specific lore for this event.

If the goal is to single out tourists, simply ask the question: "Is this your first time attending this event? If not, which years have you participated in?" at the start of the form, and then make it so that the "filter off" questions at the end won't apply to people who previously participated in the event, which are, de facto, not fucking tourists ! That way, you filter out potential larpers while keeping the ones who already proved themselves to be good santas in the pool. You can even cross-examine the participation dates of the participants and their /ss/ names to make sure that they aren't lying if you reaaaaaaaly want to be sure. Putting everyone in the same basket and potentially throwing out older participants doesn't filter shit. It just makes it so that fewer people will be participating, period. Including the ones who ACTUALLY care about the event and take it seriously. The current version we have now is 4chan email-and-captchas update kind of retarded.
