    The only issue with grazing is that it's inefficient, if you look at calorie intake/time spent. For a grown horse it'd be 10-16h per day for a full meal, not sure how that would scale for our little ponies. But they probably let other animals graze too, we know Apples keep cows and chickens, since it's much easier than having to mow the grass

    I wouldn't say possessive is quite the right word. She is very attached to the family and friends values, it's very in character for her to care deeply for her kin. Possessiveness makes it sound like she is jealous or not willing to share her time with (you) with anyone else, and i don't think that would align quite that well with her.     I think clingy might be an apt way to put it. AJ is a nit unique in that her element of harmony is one of the only ones that can offend people if she abides by it. Nobody will be driven away from Rarity being too generous, or Fluttershy being too kind. But we've seen before that the idea of driving everyone away is pretty much the one thing that can make AJ give up on honesty. In Discord's debut and in the second Flim Flam episode, that's ultimately the one thing that can make her give up on honesty. It's an interesting dilemma for her as a character, and helps emphasize how clingy she can be in regards to losing anyone. I've said before, Somepony to Watch Over Me is basically a slightly toned down yandere story with familial love instead of romantic.

    Also worth mentioning that there are plenty of farm chores that require dexterity, and not back breaking labor. We've seen Applejack handling tools plenty of times, and even as adapt as she is, a human would simply be naturally better and faster with it. Ponies have to use hammers with their mouths, just imagine how long it would actually take them to hammer nails like that. It wouldn't take much practice to get proficient enough with a hammer that to Applejack, it's just better to let you do fine dexterous work so she has more time to do harder labor that she's good at.
    Point being, you probably wont be kicking trees or hauling carts with Applejack. She'd be having you do tasks where your hands fine motor functions are more important than raw strength. Seems to me like Fall Weather Friends make it clear that she's capable in sports -- she's doing quite well in a lot of challenges before she resorts to cheating by using wings. In Sonic Rainboom she manages to prepare an impressive performance and starts fucking up only when she begins to doubt herself.     I always imagined that the reason for the farm sort of being on the backhoof a lot in the early seasons is because of these dexterous shortcomings
    I mean, take hammering in a nail for instance, how many steps could it take when it can't be held properly? do they hold it by the hoof and use the hammer with their mouth? if so, they probably can't get much leverage, and if they can, they risk hitting their hoof as there's a wider surface area than with fingers
    keeping a farm going is more than just harvesting and checking the crops, it's maintenance of structural integrity
    I imagine half the time of their day is spent just doing fiddly jobs with hooves which leaves them behind on apple picking
    it's probably been done to death in greens and fic but I always like the idea of an Anon who is foisted with all the jobs that seem "small" until he finds out that he's doing as much to keep the farm going as the rest, and is actually making everything easier cause they don't have to worry about a nail through the hoof or cheek

    >she leans down and squints at you
    >”Ya ever do that ‘n front of Apple Bloom? Yer gonna get bucked all the way to Nurse Redheart.”
    >your body freezes up as you look into her intense eyes
    “Y-Yes, ma’am.”
    >”Good! Now get yer hindquarters up, Anon. We got zap apples to harvest!”
    >you chuckle through the groan as you stand
    >your legs wobble harder than you expected
    >once you’re up, you glance at the boulder
    >there’s a clear indent in the dirt where it had been before
    >it can’t have moved much more than a foot
    >but moved it did

    >despite her small frame, there’s enough strength behind it to make you stumble slightly

    “You’re blushing.”
    >”Shut yer trap.”
    >the two of you chuckle as you pass by the regular apple trees and go deeper into the orchard
    >”Alright, here ya are.”
    >Applejack picks up a woven basket from a nearby tree and holds it out in her teeth
    >you take it and nod
    >”Now, remember, you take the-“
    “Western side and be extra careful when picking the apples because zap apples are much more fragile than regular apples.”
    >Applejack snorts and rolls her eyes
    >”Alright, alright. Ya listen, at least. See you back here in a couple of hours.”
    >she nods and turns as she makes her way to the eastern side of the orchard
    >you shoot her a wave and move into your side of the orchard
    >you quickly find the zap apple tree you left at yesterday and get to work
    >it’s slow and tedious, but at least the weather’s good
    >each of your movements are slow and methodical
    >even as you pluck them, you can feel how fragile these apples are

    >you let out a long, boisterous laugh at her words
    >she shoots you a confused glance
    >then her cheeks turn as red as the apples on her hindquarters

    >you wipe the small tears from your eyes and finish chuckling
    “You sure? You ARE the Element of Honesty, after all.”
    >”Oh, be quiet, you.”
    >she shoves her head into your thigh and laughs
    >your eyes drift to the left and over the fence to the clubhouse in the tree
    >Applejack glances up at you
    >”Ya really wanna move that boulder, huh?”

    >Applejack goes quiet for a moment
    >only the sounds of distant birds and the creak of the wagon rings out as you move towards the farmhouse
    >”Listen, sugarcube. That display this morning? It was pitiful.”
    >you stop in your tracks and blink hard
    >Applejack turns her head and grins
    >”Element of Honesty, remember?”
    >you snort and shake your head before catching back up
    “Fair enough.”
    >”Yer gonna need to strengthen yer legs, Apple style.”
    >you raise a brow as you look down at the farm mare
    “You offering to help?”
    >”Ah’m offerin’ to get you into shape is all.”
    >a warmth spreads in your chest
    >you reach down and pat her head through her hat
    “Appreciate it, AJ.”
    >”Ay! Mind the hat!”
    >she shoves your hand away with her head as she chuckles
    “So, what happened to it being a ‘waste of time’?”
    >you put on a southern drawl in a terrible impersonation of her
    >”How did you-? Oh, that filly.”
    >Applejack grumbles slightly
    >”Ah just don’t want to see you hurt yourself, Anon. ‘Specially not with only three days of zap apple season left.”

    >you grab the first basket and lift it
    >your legs burn from the weight
    >Applejack opens the door for you and lets you enter
    >you move into the kitchen and put down the basket
    >a wonderful aroma hangs in the air
    >on the stove, several pots sizzle quietly
    >Granny Smith is stirring the contents of one while humming a tune
    “Hiya, Granny.”
    >”Ooh! Yer back! How many did ya lose, Anon?”
    >she turns and smiles with an energy a mare half her age would show
    “Four.”
    >”Four?! Gosh darn, this is shapin’ up to be the best harvest in Apple history!”
    >the green mare actually jumps and taps her hind hooves together
    >”At this rate, we can even splurge on a new barn!”
    >”Get yer head out of the clouds, Granny. We don’t need another barn.”
    >Applejack enters and smiles at the two of you
    >”Oh, ptooey! There’s always room for another barn!”
    >she turns her attention back to the pots of zap apples that will soon turn into that delicious, electric jam
    >you look at the basket you put down
    >it’s the only one there
    “Big Mac’s not back yet?”
    >as if on cue, the door to the kitchen opens as the big, red stallion pulls in a basket by his teeth
    >he slides it over next to yours and lifts his head
    >with a proud smile showing all teeth, he looks at Granny
    >”Seven.”
    >a wide smile spreads on your face
    “Nice! That’s really-“
    >”Well, Anon here got four.”
    >Granny points at you with her wooden ladle without even turning around
    >Big Mac’s eyes go wide and his jaw drops
    >his eyes dart to you, then to your basket
    >he closes his mouth and turns around
    >a huff leaves his snout as he exits the room
    >Applejack hides her chuckle behind a hoof
    “What did I-?”
    >”He’s just sour ‘cause you took his spot as the better zap apple harvester.”
    >Applejack comes over and nudges your side with her hoof
    “Oh, um. I don’t want to upset him or anything.”
    >Granny snorts behind you
    >”That stallion’ll be fine. You keep doin’ what yer doin’, Anon.”
    >you open your mouth to say something but all you manage is a smile
    “Gonna go grab the other basket.”

    >you walk up the steps and past her
    >her hoof reaches out and stops you
    >you look back over your shoulder at her
    >”And, uh, don’t mention it to Apple Bloom, alright?”
    >despite her determined look, you can see a faint hint of red on her cheeks
    >you chuckle and nod
    “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
    >her green eyes gleam as she looks up at you
    >she nods her head towards the door
    >you nod in return and walk with her into the farmhouse
    >the scent of zap apples cooking hangs in the air like a warm blanket
    >and four hundred meters from the farmhouse, the boulder sits a foot further ahead the dirt road
