The only reason why Zeon is always the bad guy in SRW is because they constantly write themselves in a corner by being associated with the Earth Federation or someone makes them allies to the Earth Government. Even in Z2.1 they just had all the terrorists be a special forces group.

It's not like Char doesn't have a point about the Federation being utterly rotten. The Federation is what empowered people like the Titans. I sympathize with Amuro much more in CCA and Char's prescription is insane but the Federation is still shit.

    >>

What would even be the point of doing that? If you're just going to have Ryoko you might as well do PoD where you get a better Nadesico and Black Selena. The only point of adapting the TV series is so you get an Aesti squad.
    >>
    >>24062070

    >>
    >>24062078
If Ange's flunkies can get in then I believe in Hikaru and Izumi.
    >>24062077
I guess I could see a world where they do secret Gai who has a combo with Akito with just Ryoko. At this point I'd rather them not adapt it.
    >>
    >>24062078
The Aesti are the perfect units to be fucking lazy with though, they're basically a bunch of head swaps where you can probably reuse 90% of the animations while maybe adding a tiny flourish here and there
    >>
    >>24062077
There's also the chance they could have Gai live and playable AND still just adapt PoD's plot like what they did in W's second half, the games using PoD still technically use stuff from the original series, so that could be feasible... if they bother obviously.

You lose a lot of the reason to use Gai with Akito in the Black Selena, though. Still, that was very cool of W. Kinda helped that they had so much of the cast done from J, so I guess it's actually a similar story here, they have all the PoD work done.
    >>
    >>24062029
Only because Char somehow missed hitting the earth with a huge rock and then went "Shit what do I do now"
    >>
    >>24062087

    >>

Post plot Z is really annoying either way now, you can't even have variety with it like CCA, its always "Kamille gets on the Zeta all scared after recovering and then after a few missions he finally gets the courage to activate the biosensor and kick ass."

I thought Alpha 1 was very good. It's a little slow and easy up until the 40s, but there's still enough optional objectives with the Skill Point system and a few retreat conditions to keep things somewhat interesting. Once it gets into the late-game they turn up the difficulty a lot with huge maps with an objective where you can have fun killing everything on it instead if you want, which lets you play around with all your favorite characters that you upgraded until that point. Overall I found the late-game payoff worth the somewhat boring early-game. As for the plot, one thing that's really nice about Alpha is how many OG characters there are that are integrated into various stories. It made the world feel more cohesive and alive to me. I'm excited for Alpha 2.

People complained that the main character took too much spotlight from the licensed characters so it was toned down from alpha 2 onwards.
    >>
    >>24062288
I suppose you didn't get R-Gun? HTB Cannon is fucking stupid no matter what game it is.
    >>
    >>24062307
Alpha 2 doesn't have as much OG shit going on but I'd say Alpha 3 still has a lot.
    >>
    >>24062308
I did get Viletta, and you're absolutely right, it's the strongest attack you have available. I'm an ATXfag, though. I haven't played Ryusei's route in 15 years. I just had plenty of other ways to kill bosses between Hucky, Zeta, Nu, Sazabi, Grungust and Wing, out of those Wing and Hucky being my best. I picked the birthday that starts with Zeal, Accel at 10, Valor at 18, and Soul so it was a good time.
    >>24062307
That's kinda sad but I get it. It just made the OG characters feel more like a part of the world to me than some OC donut steel stapled in. I don't really mind that in most cases because SRW at its core is a fun power fantasy and many of those characters are fun, I just enjoyed the contrast.
    >>
    >>24062307
I'm sure you have a source for that claim, right?
    >>
This is a harder choice than Alpha 1, but for me it's definitely Ibis and maybe I'll play it twice for Sanger's route.
    >>
    >>24062329
Abuse the shit out of Daimos on Ibis' route its the best boss killer you have for a while
It's fine to let Ibis hang out as an accel bot behind someone else for a while, she'll more than make up for it in kills later
Gaiking's Face Open is ridiculous just give him generator parts to abuse it
    Enjoy the water stages

    >game with no B save

    genius
    >>
    >>24062350
I've played Gaiden before but I'll probably play it again after I'm done with 2 and 3. I really want to hop into these squad system games. The translation was OK. Most of the fan patches I've played do a better job at bringing specific character traits to life in dialogue and overall everyone speaks too formally, plus things that just feel like weak distinctions like this is a serious character so they must never use contractions. It's not like I speak Japanese though so I can't tell you how close it is to the original script. And so far this Alpha 2 patch is definitely below the Alpha 1 patch in quality, done by a different person who apparently doesn't even speak English, so that tells you all you need to know there honestly.
    >>
    >>24062348
I read the files of the VXT mod for 30 to see how it works and Claude is listed in it, so I think it's safe to say the answer is AI
I don't know if the Y equivalent got a public release already, or a public release for westerners at least but I'm willing to bet AI is involved with it too
    >>
    >>24062356
All that said, these patches are incomparably more playable and readable than the Singlish Moon Dwellers, it's nowhere near that level of butchery.
    >>
    >>24062351
Equip a cartridge, you'll still only ever use it to refill her ALL and MAP anyways.
    >>
    >>24062367
Usually it's more convenient to be an ammo-based unit because you have more flexibility over using lower powered attacks to clear grunts over your finisher whereas most EN-based units are always chipping away at their pool, but we'll see.
    >>
    >>24062373
Yeah everything but her finisher and the really long range and GRaMX has plenty of ammo
Alpha 2 has GS Rides as parts as well though so EN ends up not being an issue for whatever two energy hogs you feel like fixing
    >>
    >>24062373
Hyperion has piss for ammo on everything, it's like, 2 ammo Spicule (the ALL), 2 ammo Prominence (the MAP), 4 ammo Seyfert, 6 ammo G Driver Cross and 3 ammo GRaMXs.
The only thing I believe has 2 digit ammo is the GG Cannons which are just vulcans with a name change essentially.
    >>
    >>24062351
Imagine creating a game where your oc donut steel is not a god among robots capable of effortlessly soloing the game without much effort.
    >>
    >>24062376
My bad, the map is Pleiades, still only 2 ammo tho.
Prominence is the PLA and has 8 shots and I also oversold Seyfert and Cross Combination, they have 2 and 6 ammo respectively.
It has Sonic Saber as EN option but it's melee, and the only melee weapon in its arsenal.
    >>
    >>24062388
If I have to upgrade 3 attacks, so be it, I did it on the Hucky in Alpha 1 anyway. I'd do it again too, even if G-Impact Cannon isn't worth all that much after the Mk. III change, G-Impact Cannon is useful enough.
    >>
    >>24062382
Hyperion is still kind of ridiculous even with the ammo count it has. And half the super robots plus two of the Brain Powered pilots have Resupply somewhere too

    >>
    >>24062402
I like it in OG1 and OG2 where you can pass around god killers, especially in OG2.
    >>
    >>24062410
Well...that's true. But there's an inherent level of extra decision making when you can move the weapon around to different guys that doesn't exist when all weapons are fixed.
    >>
    >>24062402
The only real upside to it was that throwing 3-4 bars in your most used trash killing weapons was a lot cheaper than upgrading a whole unit.
    >>
    >>24062414
There's a similar distinct layer between singular weapon upgrades and targeted ones. It's fun to decide which attacks to decide to upgrade in general. Maybe a good way to compromise would be to let you select one attack to additionally upgrade. I also think it could work in a game with really scarce money with very good base stats but I don't see that happening any time soon.

W has a strong case for easiest game in the series and there's really not even that much you can do to make it harder. Your units just have an unreal level of power.
    >>
    >>24062498
Eh, should just be more like J where they spam a stupid amount of enemies so you can have fun exploding it all.
    >>
    >>24062373
EN was fairly cheap to upgrade in that era and E Save functionally increases your max en by 25%. It's not like there was a lot of good skills to buy in Alpha 2 either. Ibis for example basically has nothing buy after SP Regen because she was already blessed with Support + Assist Attack by default.

Also, resupply units gave everyone a passive en regen s in squad games, so you were spreading those along with repair and the non yuu/hime brains out.

That said, series like it are probably the biggest casualties in regards to SRW now that it isn't yearly. Cast lists might skip over tge recent stuff now if it isn't a big hit or new franchise installment, and a series like it isn't gonna sell DLC.

Learning does seem useful in Alpha 2 but I can't help but wonder how long it actually takes to get another 150 for Backup Attack, especially if you're a B-stringer squaddie. Maybe I'll go straight for Backup Attack on some of them.

    >>
    >>24063213
Yeah Alpha 2 isn't as big on PP payouts as 3, might as well skip learning.
Or don't because backup attack is a fucking scam in a game where most PLA barely hit 3000 so using them is just tickling a boss and giving them a free 2 digit amount of morale.
    >>
    >>24063213
Yeah seconding the other guy that Backup Attack is shit too
Just give your squaddies like SP related skills and Guard or S ranks with the leftovers nothing else really matters.
    >>
    >>24063219
    >>24063227
Terrain ranks seem kinda good and cheap but unlike Alpha 1 this game seems willing to hand out S ranks commonly. Spamming SP Recovery on everybody is probably effective in the late-game but usually unnecessary, it's probably worse than just spamming the same amount of cost into SP UP. Most maps are usually done in a few turns and 175 into SP Up gives you +30 SP. I guess I can see how Backup Attack is not that impactful because of the harsh penalty for squad attacks, multiplying a low number by 20% isn't that effective. Sad. Looks like it's mostly the usual winners here, Guard, Predict, Resolve, E Save, leveling up innate abilities and maybe a Co-op Attack or two on your best Support Attackers.
    >>
    >>24063169
I suspect it's because he just let the AI do everything plus he's retarded
    >>
    >>24062770
Oh yeah, I didn't know that. My alpha 2 run was with Arado, if I'd known how slow the game is I'd pick someone with ALL.
    >>
    >>24063231
Guard, SP Regen and SP Up is what most squaddies want. S Sky/Land and Space are the usual winners but you'd have to pick accordingly.

Backup Attack is generally a waste of time on most units, but there are select instances of characters who can get value out of it. For example, Radora in Sanger/Kusuha's route who has one of the strongest PLAs in the entire game. IIRC Sanger adds 1.2x to all melee attacks in his squad, so if you load him up with those units and do some cursory investment, they'll hit reasonably hard with their PLAs which can come in handy at times. Upgrade inheritance is a thing as usual, so select pilots can also benefit from strong hand me downs.
    >>
    >>24063239
I see, if I have any units with a particularly good PLA attack then Backup Attack can be good. Cool. I do guess that's not most units.
    >>
    >>24063231

I'll definitely upgrade some of those that I can use for support fodder like the Huckys, Hyaku Shiki, maybe the Zetas and maybe the GPs. Actually I'll probably use Hi-Nu as a support slave for real Nu too, although it'll probably be better just to separate them. I guess that's the real issue with the squad system, when you have a fully invested unit you would rather them lead a squad than support one. It's not exactly like the twin system where the second unit pulls as much weight in a two vs. two.
    >>
    >>24063256
You're going to be spreading out your zeals, barriers, repair and resupply units along with the accel caddies. Alpha 2 generally doesnt have a lot of good ALLs and for some reason Sanger loses his while Kusuha gets her ammo cut in half on upgrade, so the ones blessed with good ALLs/MAPW are extremely relevant.
    >>
    >>24063253
Seolla is too busy spamming ALLs to farm PP to increase her melee stat to be doing that
    >>
    >>24063259
Yeah, as far as I can see you also don't get to do double ALL attacks in Alpha 2 so I guess it's more like my goal is to fill all my squads with a good ALL attacker and everybody else gets support slaves, consequently putting anybody with a good ALL as a support in a squad is kind of wasteful.
    >>
    >>24063259
Arado also has no ALL access himself but it's made up? sort of? by his initial mech inheriting upgrades to 4 different mechs.
And at least one of them has an ALL (Graviton Rifle Burst is only an ALL in Alpha 3 where the Huckebeins are all either guest reinforcements or sub scenario only)
    >>
    >>24063261
Pretty much. I wouldn't worry about upgrading squad fodder much unless they're cheaper to upgrade or duplicate upgrades to what they inherit to

Anyway, instructions unclear, I now understand why this is a bad idea but I'm going to go learn first-hand.
    >>
Alpha 2 also has this illness that makes basically all ammo based ALL attacks only have 2 or 3 shots, only exception that comes to mind is I think Daimos' Five Shooter is like 6 ammo but it definitely doesn't have the best damage.
In a game without B save, EN based ALLs like the TBR, Chakra Extension, Hi-Nu's funnels and the like somehow end up being more spammable even if they largely are finishers and as such burn through the most EN.
    >>
    >>24063267
Does Resupply (action) hit the entire squad? Maybe the ticket actually is mashing together strong units and just swapping them out to the next carry when they run out of ammo.
    >>
    >>24063265
So many of those squads are horrible.
    >>24063260
Arado should always be leading when it comes to high value targets because of his squad leader bonus. He's drowning in PP anyway from joining early and has three free slots instead of 2, so he can learn every relevant skill in @2.
    >>
    >>24063265
You definitely should be using the Gaiking little dinos as squad fodder, they all get Accel access and get super MC pilot tier SP growth allowing them to get a fair chunk of casts of their final spells like Rouse, Hope or Disturbance.
Unless you like them, Annamarie and Emma are easy drops because they really don't learn any support spirits iirc.
Not too sure amout Anna but Emma is straight up bad, the most she contributes is having Gain/Effort in a game with fixed enemy levels.
    >>
    >>24063267
Ryujinki has a top tier ALL but then Kusuha sacks that for Mountain Pressure and a single use MAPW. But she's the only MC with access to Zeal and a Valor subpilot so....
    >>
    >>24063272
You don't want to have a squad's turn take 2 or more of your heavy hitters out of comission for the rest of the turn so that's generally a bad idea, on top of having another squad waste their turn setting up the Resupply.
    >>
    >>24063275
I like the concept of the Dino squad swapping around to Repair or Resupply as needed. I had no idea the levels were fixed, though, I was more concerned about keeping them separated to push my average up.
    >>24063280
I think I'll always have a squad slot or two for a dedicated Repair/Resupplier.
    >>
The jump to Alpha 3 is gonna be jarring because everyone has OG2 tier power levels and ALL distribution across the board is way more available.
Nu's basic Fin Funnels are a 8 ammo ALL so you don't need to get Hi-Nu or HWS to get ALL access with it, Zeta has an ALL HML variant, every MC starts with an ALL (even if Serena's is kinda dogshit, she'll make up for it eventually), Dancouga is around early with 2 ALL finishers to use, Star GGG is still bad but it joins early instead of being a super late game secret so Gai has ALLs from almost get go.
    Whole different kind of game.

    >>24063282
Spending the turn using Repair and Resupply manually isn't all that efficient because just having a unit with those in the squad gives a passive 10% HP or EN regen to all squad members so the chances to use them don't come up as often.
    >>
Daimos, Voltes, Daitarn, Gaiking and F91 should all be leading squads in Ibis early game. The last two is your choice of Ibis, Zeta, Crossbone and GP03.
Then you spread out the accel caddies and put the Gaiking boys with people who have compatible terrains. After that, the others will just fit in where you have space.

    >>24063285
Gatling Tempest was a 1-1P ALL with armor down wasnt it? I recall it being pretty useful early on to lead the charge against bosses with fodder.
    >>
    >>24063288
Yeah, it's point blank and does lv2(1?) armor down.
It's also Soleares' finisher so you're naturally hitting a boss with it anyways, or attempt to because Soleares only has like, 6 base movement and can't fly.
    >>
    >>24063282
You're barely ever gonna actually use a repair unit when you have 3000 casts of Trust. And resuppliers can just live with your EN hog units.
    >>
    >>24063261
    >consequently putting anybody with a good ALL as a support in a squad is kind of wasteful
You'll start noticing ALL attacks are very expensive. Deathscythe can maybe fire it 2 or 3 times before you have to swap it to someone else.
By midgame you'll be spamming ALL or MAP and nothing else because the fodder enemies are getting beefier. I guess this is why they reworked it into TRI attack for Z1.

    >>
    >>24063317

    >>
    >>24063285

    >>24063333
    >>24063340
T adapts the OVA, not the tv show, still skipping part of an already short OVA. And then Y is a cliff notes version of the T OVA plot with one change regarding how Shot Weapon is handled (for the OVA, I mean, Y does a lot more with the tv characters, but it's post series).
    >>
    >>24063341
Cobray also has the best damage.
Sure Kusuha and Touma can have innate Awaken but you can just slap a Puru next to Cobray to fire off multiple infinity cylinders a turn, or build him for support attacks since his range is obscene (Kusuha can't support because her finisher is an ALL and Touma doesn't have nearly as much range)
    >>
Oh, Support Defend is good for squaddies too, right? That Tortuga bastard has been a real thorn in my side in the Crossbone villain's squad, his name escapes me, and he's put that to good use, teaching you how to get around it by sniping Rosemary with ALLs. Scenario 10 where I had to kill him without the Altairlion was painful. Clearing it reasonably is also locked behind save scumming a 15% hit rate for the secret X2. Maybe you can do it without it but it sounds even more miserable.
    >>
    >>24063349
Also, I think T treated the OVA as a side thing to Rayearth.
    >>
    >>24063341
    >>24063366
Kusuha's gimmick is that she has two pilots. You can simply just swap to Bullet if you wish to Support Attack. I never actually bothered to check if Kusuha and Bullet's Support Attacks count as different instances, so they can theorectically support up to 8 times in one turn.
    >>
    >>24063437
I can't think of any games where form shifting locks off support attacking. You can get extra attacks out of Getter that way pretty easily.
    >>

Not that it matters much, but the favorite series picker distributes equal bonuses across all series regardless of number of robots, so that means if you pick Zeorymer, it's individual bonus is the same for EACH Aestivalis if you picked Nadesico. It's not that much and MX is not hard, but hey, it's there. This same logic applies to W.

    Aqua, a maiden you aren't.

    >>
    >>24064213
I...don't think that's true in W? Pretty sure they "balanced" it in that one where the bonus is bigger the less mechs a series had.
