In Battletech we all love being mechwarriorsThey are the poster boys and the cool stompy thingsBut we forget about the other guysThe tanks and other combat vehicles, the infantry and mech killing battle armor, fighters of both air and space, hell might aswell throw in even the space and ocean battleshipsThis thread is for these overlooked but brave heroes of the eternal spheroid and clanner wars
wasnt there a game where basic tanks and power armor mogged the titular mechwarriors?
>>24054677iirc the very original battletech ttg they tried to go for gritty realism only to find out that the mechs were pretty useless and vehicles and ATG armed infantry could just easily leg mechs and take out the cockpit so they quickly tweaked the weapon accuracy rules and added conditions for infantry and vehicles to make the mechs viable.
>>24054694In the very original battletech vehicles had no rules, and in citytech they got an extremely basic statline and were swifly owned by anything. Infantry died in dozens for every single shot. The total warfare rules were like, the third or so attempt, and basically made vehicles into the same thing as mechs with some slight differences. A mech is just the same platform but with more frills and that's it.The new, current rules massively simplify them again with a basic "roll or die" check that degrades each time they take damage. They did this because so few players were using vehicles. Battletech has also never had gritty realism. It's a complex simulation, but it's still wildly abstracted. In that era you mentioned, bringing infantry made melee mechs stronger because of initiative stuffing.
>>24054738>people dont use non mechs most of the timeWe have dinosaur mounted infantry i know the silent masses are evil and retarded but come on man LOOK AT THIS!ID HAVE THEM AS A PERMANENT STAY IN MY ARMY!
>>24055085>we have Avatar at home
>>24055085living mounts in sci fi is retarded
>>24055124Rule of cool beats any type of realism any timePlus we already had living mounts you idiots and i am not talking about just horses here
>>24055144giant wolves are retarded. Space wolves are fucking cringe. Mechs and Hover/Bikes are cooler
>>24054694What a bunch of hack frauds
>>24055144>Rule of cool beats any type of realism any timebut oftentimes, cool is codeword for cringe/retarded
>>24055124You don't need to set up a manufacturing line for horses. If you're colonizing some bumfuck planet where all you have is farmland, breeding horses is much easier than building a megafactory to churn out robo-horses
>>24054677You're probably thinking of Heavy Gear.
>>24054667>>24054694In Battletech or Gundam, it seems like tanks always unjustly job. This little guy always tried its best!
I'm working on an idea. Years ago I made helicopter for long range harassments attacks. 30 tons and armed with a AC/2 and LRM5.I've been reconsidering removing the AC/2 and just putting a larger LRM system on it, at most I can only get an LRM10 on it. Unless using newer tech.
>>24054667BA not suffering from their own tmm or heat generation makes them a nuisance. vehicles, arty, field guns etc can get away with stuff like this, too. there are lots of nasty ways to bring dangerous guns to the field for the fraction of a mechs costin campaign play we've struggled with dug-in hull-down ppc tanks, suicidal srm carriers, etc. combined arms btech is something else>>24055422helicopters are a huge pain in the ass if you lack the right weapon or an AA mech. i've seen some precision ammo ac ones really cause issues
>>24055835Combined arms is the way to goFeels like you are commandint a battalion and not just one Lance of mechwarriors
>>24054667>>>/k/
>>24055319For making it fun?
>>24057439If a vehicle is big enough it feels /m/
I used to deploy micro armor minis in BT games. T-55s made acceptably good Scorpion substitutes. For more expensive (but still fairly cheap) 'Mech hunters I used Jagdpanthers with LPLs. The advantages of micro armor minis are high levels of detail and modest size. Paint them right and forego a base, and they can be overlooked by a hasty player. A big advantage of vehicles is that in general it's easier to modify them. Part of tabletop BT's fun is customizing the minis. Many vehicle variants just swap out turrets and those are easy to make, compared to performing surgery on 'Mechs arms or torsos.
>>24054677might be thinking of the crysis mod Mechwarrior Living Legends; it has tanks and battle armor, the former can hold their own against mechs and the latter can possibly take one out if the player's really lucky or good
>>24059325Urge to replay Deserts of Kharak rising...
>>24055124That's just a fenrisian teenager and his wife
>>24059326> Paint them right and forego a base, and they can be overlooked by a hasty player>can be overlooked by a hasty playerah yes, the good ole strategy. cheating.
>>24054667I've been using the aerospace bsp rules from the new core book. It's neat having an easy way to put asf models on the map. They are fragile as fuck, though. But they're a lot more fun than just using air strike cards.
>>24059494
>>24059575neat, i have yet to try these out. any more thoughts?the cards always felt super underwhelming but the old aerospace rules were insane
>>24060362>any more thoughts? If your opponent ignores the aero threat and you go all in on it, you're getting at least one round of hammering his ass from whatever range and direction you choose that he can't do shit about. In the spirit of fairness I've got ASF models I can loan out and am willing to make cards for my opponent. In the interest of me keeping the ability to use asf bsp I am more than happy to do that to level the field.
>>24061219>I've got ASF models I can loan out and am willing to make cards for my opponentthat's a good attitude, nobody wants to be receiving omnipotent airstrikes without a way to retaliatehonestly it doesn't sound too different than bringing things like BA. Opponent either has to commit to taking them out or ignore them and eat the damage. probably more threatening than the average trooper squad though
