The fights in Hathaway are what I wish all Gundam shows (UC entries at least) looked like. The mobile suits actually feel like giant machines with mass, momentum and weight instead of weightless action figures flying around.

Xi vs Penelope and Xi vs Azyleus in particular felt like actual dogfights, except with giant fucking robots. The speed, the way they maneuver around each other, the acceleration and sudden changes in direction. It all feels so much more believable than your typical Gundam fight. 08th MS Team is another exception, but otherwise I can't think of many entries that sell the idea of giant military machines fighting as well as Hathaway does.

Isn't this supposed to be what the real robot genre is about? Yet most Gundam shows have absolute dogshit physics. Mobile suits casually perform anime acrobatics in midair, stop and change direction instantly, and throw each other around like they weigh nothing.
    >>
you are correct OP. Just take a look at how people mocked G-Saviour for the movement of the mobile suits instead of just how cheap and bad it looked. Movement was one thing G-Saviour got right

It looked good for 1999, no other made for tv movie really looked any better.
People especially back then were just offended at seeing white people in their grorious nippon anime franchise

    >>24051820
nah the colors were too washed. The movie doesn't do the designs justice

    >Isn't this supposed to be what the real robot genre is about
    No.
The term "real robot" has literally nothing to do with how grounded in reality the animation is. It just means they have tech spec sheets and technobabble that pretend the robots are military weapons and the show is liekly to focus on war drama. That's all there is to it.
    Realism was never the goal.

    >The mobile suits actually feel like giant machines with mass, momentum and weight instead of weightless action figures flying around.
That's the opposite of what Hathaway's fights are like.
    >Yet most Gundam shows have absolute dogshit physics. Mobile suits casually perform anime acrobatics in midair, stop and change direction instantly, and throw each other around like they weigh nothing.
This is a perfect description of what they're actually like.
    >The fights in Hathaway are what I wish all Gundam shows (UC entries at least) looked like
Thank god you're not in charge of any of its projects.
    >>
I'm so tired of hathaways flash
    >>
You couldn't see shit in hathaway, everything was all black and dark because they realized the celshaded cgi makes the fights look bad so they hid it.

    >It just means they have tech spec sheets and technobabble that pretend the robots are military weapons

Evangelion is unironically one of the realest real robot shows but no one is ready to hear that
    >>
you're on a trip with this aren't you?

    what
    >>
    >>24051619
Yeah, HF is the gritty 'realistic' Gundam that fans have 'always' wanted and pretend 08th MS to be. Really exposes how they don't actually want realism but just a surface level aesthetic facade of it cause they are insecure about liking 'toy commericals' genre.

Yeah the gray should've been more saturated lmao.

Look I like the sound designer from Yukikaze too, but that doesn't automatically make the choreography good.

Show me a fucking mecha right now that exists in the real world.
    >>
    >>24058963
'World's full of mecha. You seem to think the term applies only to humanoid toy-sales garbage.
    >>
    >>24059271
The humanoid toy sales garbage is the only relevant mecha stuff, everything else you jerk yourself off over has no relevance to anyone else on this board beyond people whose heads are similarly up their own asses.
