Because I love Gundam. You used to to once

Not really. I didn't get into this franchise until 2024 when I was doing Toonami homework.

Because its huge, it was re-released (no scalper pricing), and I'm one of those weirdos that liked the Narrative movie. And if I ever get a wild hair up my ass I can just paint everything red and pretend its Full Frontal's since it also comes with the parts to swap it to that model.

    >>
    >>24051460
depends if it matters to the plot writers. some shows have them replacing entire limbs not long after some gundams are stolen, while others stay damaged and their enemies take advantage of that weakness
    >>
    >>24048938

To be fair to Fukui on this matter, the Neo Zeong wasn't in the Unicorn Novel or the extra chapter that Narrative was based on. It was invented purely for the OVA and movie. The novel just ended with the Unicorn and Banshee having to take down the Shinaju and then both units and pilots being killed/mentally destroyed at the end. Honestly a far better way to tie up that whole story.
    >>

What's the point of Neo Zeong carrying a handheld beam rifle when it has THIRTY much powerful cannons? Plus the ones in the shoulders, skirt and waist?
It's like if a tank commander was going around aiming at targets with a 9mm sidearm.
    >>
    >>24052131

    >well no, more like if the tank commander was holding an automatic grenade launcher
At least that would be kinda useful. Pistol is a better example because the difference in firepower compared to what's carried on the vehicle itself is fucking staggering.
That rifle is just a regular MS one, not even a crazy weapon like the Beam Magnum or the HWS-derived one carried by the original Stein.
    >>
    >>24052144
the sinanju beam rifle is a sniper weapon with extreme range and precision, and it has dual function with the underslung bazooka. it doesn't share same purpose as the mobile armor beam cannons which are saturation fire and raw firepower.

you might as well ask why GP03S carries bazookas when it already has micromissile containers

    >you might as well ask why GP03S carries bazookas when it already has micromissile containers
It was dumb there and it's dumb here.

You know who did it right, out of all the giant attachment armors? The fucking METEORs from SEED. Because the MS's arms have to hold on to it, they can't use any handheld weapons.
Although I find this specific detail the most fucking retarded of it all, though.
    >nooooo it has to be using its rifle and shield all the time otherwise its not a gundam!
    >>
    >>24052167
you're just being weird, at least the original beam rifle was designed for the MS' own arms, it's kind of fucking retarded for the giant guns to be reliant on being aimed by tiny arms. wouldn't the MS arms wear itself out and break itself handling a weapon 10x larger? there was room to make the guns jointed to allow movement but no room for there to be motors so it has to rely on the tiny MS arms?

    >nooooo it has to be using its rifle and shield all the time otherwise its not a gundam!
that's some kind of dumb nigger rule you made up because the first and arguably most iconic scene of the original gundam didn't even have a shield and rifle, it was slapping around zakus with its hands and stabbing with a beam saber

My guess is that the METEOR itself has additional motors instead of using the MS's force to move the arms around. Think of it like those industrial exoskeletons.

    >arguably most iconic scene of the original gundam didn't even have a shield and rifle
What's this crap? The most iconic scene of the original series is, precisely, one involving the rifle.
And that was a comment on why the handheld weapons are somehow mandatory all the time (despite Freedom being very powerful only with the weapons in its body) to the extent they added a fucking animation of the METEOR having to include them.

Well for starters thats not Neo Zeong but II Neo Zeong and the MS holding the beam rifle/bazooka combo is Sinanju Stein with a pilot who was half crazy enjoying blowing shit up. The mobile armor is controlled with their mind basically so that leaves the arms of the MS free to shoot shit that gets close.
    >>
    >>24048872
    Why not?
    >>
    >>24052167
It carries the rifle and shield inside for situations like the episodes show where Freedom has to ditch the Meteor and will be under equipped without it's rifle and shield. Without it it has no protection beyond it's PS armor and has to rely on it's heavy weaponry for fire power. Freedom wouldn't have stood a chance against Providence without them. It's not like Strike Freedom where with the built in shields and precision shots of the Dragoons it honestly doesn't even need the rifles.
    >>
    >>24052131
    >What's the point of Neo Zeong carrying a handheld beam rifle when it has THIRTY much powerful cannons? Plus the ones in the shoulders, skirt and waist?

Sinanju doesn't need to carry by hand. The Neo Zeong that can hold weapons for the Sinanju. Plus the Sinanju can summon whatever weapons it needs from the containers and weapon slots.

If a mobile gets too close then it whip out a beam rifle and shoot it down. If a mobile suit has an I-field, then the Sinanju can whip out heavy bazooka launchers. If it needs to melee, then the Sinanju can whip out beam sabers from the containers and even beam axes. It's quite handy.

Neo Zeong has thirty fucking finger cannons to do that. There's no need for Sinanju to have its rifle.

    >If it needs to melee, then the Sinanju can whip out beam sabers from the containers and even beam axes. It's quite handy.
If an MS gets too close that it needs to deploy a saber, then your issues go beyond weapons load.
To expand on the previous analogy, it's like asking why IFV crews aren't equipped with cavalry sabers, in case they have to deal with enemies up close.
    >>
    >>24058016
eh, if you're bothered by that, you might as well be bothered by a lot of things

at this point it's not really enjoyable for you

    >and will be under equipped without it's rifle and shield.
    >Without it it has no protection beyond it's PS armor and has to rely on it's heavy weaponry for fire power
And why is that a shortcoming? While the shield offers protection against beams, losing the stupid redundant rifle gives Freedom the room to wield a second beam saber, which is what Kira's more comfortable with.

    >It's not like Strike Freedom where with the built in shields and precision shots of the Dragoons it honestly doesn't even need the rifles.
Ditto for regular Freedom. The plasma cannons and railguns are accurate enough to precisely disable foes. It's not like the RX-0's beam magnum or the Sinanju's sniper, where it adds a powerful new capability.

Again, my issue is with the dramatic side of things, like if these people don't think it's a "proper" MS (much less a "proper Gundam") if it doesn't have the standard loadout of rifle/shield/beam saber. For all its shortcomings, IBO tried to break with the mold: no beams except for that one excavated MA.

Did you watch the same anime as the rest of us? Because multiple mobile suits got close enough that Neo Zeong needed to deploy its beam sabers and/or beam rifle to stop them.
    >>
    >>24058043
He really needed the rifle and shield against Providence as the rifle was way more precise against it's various Dragoons, he shot down several where as he only got two dragoons with the other weapons and needed the shield to protect until enough Dragoons were lost that he could just dodge the rest. The rifle and shield were standard because in most Gundam universes they're the best option in a dogfight. IBO just has totally different MS designs with their nano laminate armor and unbreachable ahab reactors meaning it's impossible for MS to blow up so they have to beat each other to death.

    >Neo Zeong has thirty fucking finger cannons to do that. There's no need for Sinanju to have its rifle.
That's a recipe for disaster. If you can't intercept the incoming attack with finger cannons, or if the finger cannons are firing elsewhere on other enemies, then the Sinanju is vulnerable.

    >To expand on the previous analogy, it's like asking why IFV crews aren't equipped with cavalry sabers, in case they have to deal with enemies up close.
You do realize that many IFVs have gun hole ports to aim and fire their weapons at enemies outside the IFV right? That's how they deal with enemies getting too close.

    >If you can't intercept the incoming attack with finger cannons
You have bigger problems if your enemy was able to evade three dozen Psycommu beam cannons, each the size of an MS torso.

Are you going to argue that they should put a couple of arms with beam sabers on the Clop-class, just in case an enemy MS gets too close to the bridge?
    >>
    >>24058202
    >Are you going to argue that they should put a couple of arms with beam sabers on the Clop-class, just in case an enemy MS gets too close to the bridge
They already do. It's called bridge AA turret guns. The bridge is never left undefended.
    >>
    >>24058223
    >They already do.
You know full well that's not the same. It's the ship-size equivalent of head vulcans, not really comparable to having actual beam sabers to engage targets.

    >You know full well that's not the same
If you don't like it then don't make a stupid ass analogy using ships.

I mean isn't the entire argument about having weapons coverage at all ranges?

You keep arguing that the Sinanju should be unarmed because the Neo Zeong already has enough beam weapons. Yet you have conveniently ignored anons >>24058124 who have pointed out how flawed that thinking is.
    >>
