Why do most people seem to like The Stranger more than Nausea? I read them both this month. I thought they were both great but Nausea was way more fun to read imo. The writing is way more expressive and Roquentin goes much further into the depths of his existential experience than Meursault. Is this just a case of The Stranger being more accessible/easy to read so simply more people have read it? Why do you think The Stranger is better?
I don't know if people really prefer The Stranger over Nausea, but certainly a lot more people read The Stranger than read Nausea. Camus won his Nobel prize before Sartre won his and I think The Stranger got a lead in attention because of that and has just become a default first book to read by weird French guys. The Stranger has a better title as well, as far as getting people to read your book goes. Nausea sounds like it's going to be an unpleasant experience, The Stranger is a little intriguing.
>>25625705yeah, that's aligned with what I was getting at with the "Stranger is more accessible/easier to read" bit too, it just seems like more people have read it. Nausea was posted about here a few weeks back and iirc it was only negative shit being said about it with a few Camus recs. I guess it's all just taste, but for my taste I'm just really surprised that Nausea isn't more popular.
