What are some books about the process of losing one’s sanity or witnessing it? I know some horror like “House of leaves” has the narrative as well as the very formatting of the novel start to fall apart and wheel of time has a lot of “Mad” characters but what about the perspective of one solely mad? “Steppenwolf” was kinda what I mean where it was a man just going through a weird meta episode of his own psyche and “A confederacy of dunces” was like the outsider perspective of a madman, but what are more books that are from the perspective of the deranged?
pic related fits the description pretty well. it's about a manic spinster that becomes increasingly more unhinged as the story progresses.Hunger by Hamsun also has some of what you're describing.
