what is you're thots on word of the year 2026? literaturely speaking.
this year?
like 20k upvotes/tweeties, probably
>>256244074chan somehow still influences popular lingo
>>25624407It's weird how everyone claims to hate incels yet appropriates their lingo. The 2027 word of the year will probably be "foid" or something
>>25624407It weird because this seems like a old phrase now.
>>25624558Normies just discovered it this year because of Clavicular and the looksmaxxing trend. They also just discovered "goyim", "zog", "jeet", "goycattle" and the like. In 10 years they'll discover "too christpilled" and "MUMMAAA"
>>256245584chan already went through the "looksmax" phase a decade ago. It’s quite surreal to see the general public only discovering it now.>>25624557Society also hates black people, all while pilfering their slang. You guys are the new negroes so to speak, and the incel arguably is the most oppressed group today.
>>25624560"slop" also comes from "goyslop" but the mainstream sanitized it into just an ai critique
>>25624571I also started seeing leftists using "goyslop" this year since Jews are now a safer target.
>>25624571The mainstream has kinda ruined "slop", it's become too overused too quickly. It's not even used just for AI slop anymore, they use it for everything. Idk why the unwashed masses are so intrinsically gay and lame that they even make words uncool, but they just are.
>>25624584(idk how mainstream it is if I saw the useless overusage of it here first) but yeah, anything you don't like is now just x-slop.
>>25624584Yah, slop got ruined when it became synonymous with anything that is low quality.
>>25624560What an amazing future we have in store for us
>>25624560internet's gonna be dead by 2030 btw, it's not gonna survive AI or really even just the increasing legislation on social media restrictions cuz governments are now suing them over algorithms and having the entire youth addicted to them like fent kek
>>25624560you have 60 year old moms on reddit and faceberg saying "mogging"
>>25624618Thats probably a good thing. The internet does have utilitarian uses, like email, google maps, and banking. But the social/entertainment aspect will essentially disappear, if it hasnt already.
>>25624618to expand on this it's also not gonna survive the explosion of subsaharan africans and indians and maybe eventually chinese if there's a happening chumming every single platform out there. first they will appear, and as they do so the first world will continue to restrict social media themselves, and the proportions will change continuously basically until it's all cest finialso people are just going to use chatbots to ask all their questions, you can already see it starting now, eventually there won't be a point in asking strangers because most of them will be retarded and the AI won't be comparatively. and more and more people will "publish" basically just AI outputs, so you have all at once the increase of the third world online, the increase of AI-stuff (which isn't inherently bad, and will probably improve, but it always begs the question of "why can't I just get this myself?") and the restriction of the first world youth and you have basically the death of the web as a social platform.>>25624627I honestly think it's overdue, the internet's really become such a tortured vessel in the last decade, people have built too much around it and the gratification of others. I genuinely think we will look back on this era as some sort of social psychosis and addiction, it's a bit embarrassing.I still think the social side will exist somewhat, some people literally can't quit at this point and some don't want to, but stuff like 4chan is going to go the way of the geriatric forum (it already is arguably), which is a more civilized death than becoming what shit like Reddit has become. It kinda sucks but I think the gap will bring a lot more productive and satisfying output in people's lives, you'd be shocked by some screen usage statistics

>>25624635>I genuinely think we will look back on this era as some sort of social psychosis and addiction, it's a bit embarrassing.I have had this feeling as well. And it is embarrassing but I think a natural stage with a revolutionary technology. It is funny how the internet may turn out to be a fad. But there are going to be people, normal people, who are going to wake up and realize they spend 20 years obsessing about what people post on facebook or twitter. And that they never really gained anything from it but a lost life. As for 4chan, there is something so basic about its format that I think it may survive. People still want to seek out others who have similar interests. Its the more algorithmically powered sites that will suffer first, especially as people become aware how those sites destroyed their minds to farm their attention spans. No refunds and all that. I also think, and this may sound strange or naive, that 4chan could be the anti-internet site. The place to launch off the internet, and return it irl normalcy. Its like a society wide neckbeard challenge.
>>25624635>to expand on this it's also not gonna survive the explosion of subsaharan africans and indians and maybe eventually chinese if there's a happening chumming every single platform out there. first they will appear, and as they do so the first world will continue to restrict social media themselves, and the proportions will change continuously basically until it's all cest finiand the reason WHY this happens is bog standard communitarianism. from the first world perspective they view themselves as the "other" from the third world. they can understand and agree with some things, some more than others, but ultimately there will be a gap between nations. from the first world perspective, if the third world increases their relative size on the internet (and thus setting the tempo and character of conversation on it itself through presence), the first world will develop a reactionary view: theyll begin to see the internet as no longer the home of "them" but as the home of the "other", and you might see then a voluntary opting out of the web. this isn't the only reason, there's plenty of other reasons people would admit to, and im not even a chuddy kind of person. but for the median man, there is a gap in the comfort of home and the otherness of the world outside it, and as the character of the internet shifts away it can make people not want to be in it anymore when the selfperceived image of their online "home" begins to fade away
>>256246354chan occupies a weird space in the "internet culture" of social media where even if the site itself has declined in traffic somewhat, it has a folkloric association as the "origin" of many memes and slang/lingo (as discussed ITT). Even more recent zoomer gen alpha memes that went mainstream like the "Backrooms" originated from here and in the 2020s, so you have kids still hearing about mythos around 4chan and attracted to the site in a way
post bunda. bobs and vagene? yas? follow me on x.com saar. mog chads
>>25624669>>25624662I don't think it's going to "die" for the reasons you've both stated, but the demographics of the place have probably aged in the last decade in some of the boards. It depends on the board but I think most of the quality hobby ones will sustain themselves, but slowly, while the more provocative ones will probably continue to thrive as basically just apehouses, as they are now.
>>25624676It's because Elon made Twitter a free speech platform so a lot of people went there instead
>>25624662>It is funny how the internet may turn out to be a fad. But there are going to be people, normal people, who are going to wake up and realize they spend 20 years obsessing about what people post on facebook or twitter. And that they never really gained anything from it but a lost life.Nobody knows what the future will look like because of AI though. As for the appeal of the Internet it's quite simple: you're allowed to talk about things online which you cannot bring up in real life, and this means online discourse is more authentic than irl relationships. The incel discourse (and nearly everything relating to sexuality) is a perfect example.
>>25624560>Clavicularwasn't he a thiel astroturf? if so interesting what their agenda would be to promote this fringe internet body horror concept to the mainstream
>>25624698Not certain but I have heard rumors to that effect. I think its more just the phenomena spread online over the years and hit a mass with Tiktok promotion. Thiel's angle if he's involved there is probably his transhumanism and vitalism schtick with looksmaxxing being part of the biohacking thing in a sense. Nick Fuentes and Tate were also hanging out with him, so their fanbase engaged with it. In any case, the pipeline from 4chan discussions trickling to Xitter hacks and Twitch streamers remains clear
>>25624689>As for the appeal of the Internet it's quite simple: you're allowed to talk about things online which you cannot bring up in real life, and this means online discourse is more authentic than irl relationshipsNTA but I think it's almost self-reinforcing in that sense. As other people express thoughts you feel more welcome to agree, even if you wouldn't have said it without that first welcoming. Chuds are a good example because there is a core segment of them that truly believe it and will argue it unprompted, and then the outer shell of normalfags who basically use it expressively as a in-signal, or as purely ironic humor, or just because other people are doing it.It does make it more authentic, yes, but what is authenticity? Is it what you will defend, or what you chime in after others?
>>25624689I think the real problem is that the internet has gone from being an extension of ordinary social life to being a substitute for it. Theres a difference between going online to discuss some interest with strangers and spending decades emotionally invested in the opinions and activities of people youll never meet. And thats partly why I think places like 4chan might outlive the social media giants. There's something fundamentally human about wanting to talk to strangers about things that interest you. There is nothing particularly human about having your attention and social instincts continuously manipulated by an algorithm. The former is probably here to stay, but I suspect people will eventually become embarrassed by how much of their lives they surrendered to the latter.

>>25624557A great deal of incel claims were never refuted. The only thing I disagree with them on is their insistence that looks are the biggest factor in attracting women (imo it's more social skills, neurotypicality/extroversion, money and social status, and implied capacity of violence).
>>25624584I dread the day they discover "kino". I love using that word, but I just know it's coming
>>25624579remember when that guy went to the tumblr convention and was trolling the fats bringing up the palestine conflict saying "fee palestine, death to israel"?
>>25625713*free palestine, freudian slip
