You guys know that McCarthy, Foster Wallace, Pynchon, DeLillo, Proust, Faulkner, Joyce, etc. are just junk food right? And that you should be primarily reading ancient history, philosophy, and metaphysics, right?
This thread was made by a degenerate sickfuck pedophile. Imagine the sick inner world of the kind of motherfucker who would not only MAKE the image in the OP, but actually save it and actively post it in a public forum. You're a sick little puppy OP and your death WILL be agonizing.
Depends what your goals are. If you want to write fiction you should be reading all of these things. Fiction gives you the style, philosophy/history/science gives you the ideas. As for them being junk food: you only say this because you have some shallow, categoristic framework you have to apply to all things you don't like, or like less (in this case fiction) as having less VALUE than the thing you do like, when in reality it's all soul-enriching and fiction can be just as transformative as the other, and definitely on a larger scale than philosophy will ever reach, but that's beside the point. The beauty of fiction is seeing the philosophy applied in a narrative.
I don't read philosophy and I think history whether ancient or modern is a waste of time Art is far too important to waste your life reading history and philosophy
>>25620469>I remember when I was about 11 months olddoubt
>>25620561Any artist who has ever done something remarkable studied it all. The reason art is in such a surface-dwelling spot right now is because most authors are just a copy of a copy of a copy. The sweet spot is to be a copy of a copy where you can maybe put some newish insight into the world. Everyone now is just Tarantino making homage compilations.
Parroting facts and abstract thought experiments does not bring you closer to wisdom than simulating a wide range of human situations and experiences is able to do.
>>25620590I think you have a very narrow view of what philosophy is.
An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way, an artist says a hard thing in a simple way.
>metaphysicsI can't imagine a bigger waste of time.
>>25620638What makes you say that?
"I don't want to engage with anything in the modern world," he said, incel-ly.
>>25620597I would argue OP does by the reason he is omitting authors if that's the scope you want to take it to.
>>25620643Hume and Kant ended metaphysics. Nobody wastes time on it anymore
>>25620527It's a cute pic
>>25620692It is not, you sick fucking bastard.
>>25620683Both are retarded pseudo-intellectuals that are the ultimate dogmatists.
>>25620527>>25620718You need to go back.
>>25620756You're the one posting wojaks in 2026, retard.
>>25620469>the intoxicating smell of this young, healthy woman as better than any flower perfume
>>25620469Is that because the eleusian mysteries enlightened antiquity
>>25620541This! Omg, so much this!
>>25620561you will never make it
>>25620612>A gullible retard says a simple thing in a simplistic way.
>>25620742>i dont read but i want to feel smart and fit in anyway
>>25620849Empiricism and inductivism are dogmatic, nigger. Kant fell for this trap and got mind-raped by Hume, which is why no one takes him seriously anymore.
>>25620469patriotOne of my school friends slept over in my bed once and I remember going crazy over the sweet smell she left on the pillow. I remember it till this day.

>>25621019Fool, don't always cling to the literal meaning. Try to grasp the figurative menal picture, ponder the sheer conceit and aspect of imagism.
Isn't it wholesome, anons? Isn't it the ABSOLUTE antidote to what real perversion is? Think. For one time, fucking think.
>>25620469I want, nay, NEED more of such images. So pure, so passionate as if a giant wave just leapt up in heart and crashed thunderously along its walls. This image is the nirvana, freedom from rebirth. The very essence of everything that's sweet and joyful in this world. I won.
>>25621104Yeah, won the bronze medal in the PEDO OLYMPICS
>>25620469No I'm not some zoomer faggot who thinks it's wrong to enjoy things.
>>25620469Philosophy is for midwits. If you really want to dedicated yourself to the highest intellectual pursuit, you would study physics. There's only the philosopher or the poet. The modern philosopher is the scientist and artists doing gay shit like film are the poets. Once it was fiction books and actual poetry, no longer. if you can't be honest about what you are, this cope will only hold you back. Socrates would not be a philosopher today. He would think you were a retard.
>>25620469What's the source on this?I want to read that erotica.
>>25620469great literature encodes philosophy (and even history) in a form inaccessible to dimwits who need every argument spelled out by some autist and get a melty when something isn't heckin precisely defined and they have to use their brain a little bit. Academic philosophy is comfort food for intellectual knuckledraggers like OP, making them feel smart while not taxing their brain too much.
>>25620469Nonfiction is for dummies and performative readers
>>25620469Why not both
>>25620683You can second hand smell the farts Hume was huffing when he was writing Enquiry.
The issue is that you need to read a lot of philosophy in order to figure out that it's all just bullshit but by then you have already wasted your life away reading all that philosophy, so it's best to never touch it, like heroin.
>>25620469Why single out metaphysics?
>>25620565>he doesnt remember his period of infancyngmi
>>25620942>am i fitting in yet?
>>25622398There is value in understanding exactly why so much of philosophy is so empty. Arguable if the juice is worth the squeeze though, I agree.
I don't respect German Idealists.
>>25620469The metaphysics of the Greeks kind of sucks. I don't know, maybe it picks up around the time Neo-Platonists start writing, but it's not unimpeachable and even the authors sort of admit that.
>>25620527The image is hilarious if you know ray peat. Youre either paranoid or trolling
>>25620469>ancient history, philosophy, and metaphysicsFor insecure pseuds. Always has been.
>And that you should be primarily reading ancient history, philosophy, and metaphysics, right?So... The Bible? Yes you're right.
