What a fantastic book and i just finished reading it. Every page this guy has written is worth reading and it's exciting too.
I struggled alot remembering the names of so many characters in the beginning but later they all sat in my brain.
And the story....so many stories of so many different char i mean SOULS...how they develop..oh i loved it so much.
Things that made me emotional
>Captain Tushin's reckless heroism
>Young Nikolaj's admiration for the emperor but not approaching
>Natasha Rostov
and probably many other things..
Please share your memories of this Epic
>>
read this if you want a view from the French side/study of Napoleon. there's also memoirs by officers who actually fought and survived the retreat from Moscow

Petya, the raisins, the aftermath...
The character development of Nikolai, from ardent youth to.. where he concludes, positively brilliant

Best girl for me Princess Marya, btw

>horse meat is back on the menu boys
the war politics or details are not interesting to me at all.
It could be the turko russo war or any major war in europe. The story itself and it's characters
is what makes it interesting.

>raisins ??
raisin as in being a youngster ? His role was also epic, especially the scene on the horse..god that striked me too.
>>25619371
>Princess Marya
I knew from the beginning that she'd be a major character in the book.
Studying with her father physics or was it geometry etc. being shy but emotionally intelligent...
damn and when she realizes at a very young age that people find her ugly but are interested in her wealth only so she turns her
back to the world devoting herself to religion at that young age.
I loved her attitude and her character. Aswell as Natalia too (Natasha in real ?!).
Peter/Pierre/Piotr was indeed interesting but didn't really do much to me.

I don't remember it well. Is it true that Napoleon there is weak and awkward also Kutuzov is senile? A lot of conservatives in Russia don't like Tolstoy, him being popular in soviet times is a big sign why
>>

No allthough the french army are in advance over the russians and germans alot of times, tactically especially. Strategically Napoleon sucks.
But after reaching a burnt down empty moscow, Napoleons army stuck there.
Kutuzov's army retreats not because of tactics but of incompetency, which later turns into their advance
after the the french stuck there in emptiness.
Yes Kutuzov is a senile old idiot you may say, even the Emperor dislikes him

sorry bro...you may wanna try /k/

>raisins
How could you forget? Right before riding off for the last time Petya cheerfully shares his bag of raisins with some of the troops
>>
>>25619398
Petya doesn't 'do much' for anybody because this most promising of sons is sacrificed to Moloch in the flower of his youth! Though I admired Prince Andrei I felt Petya's demise the most bitter, the most horrible in the entire novel!
>>
>>25619896
My bad. The Peter I'm referencing is Prince Nikolai's (and Nataha's) younger brother-- 'Petya' in the Maud translation

Tolstoy was a semi-hack who was filtered by Shakespeare.

imagine invading with an army of 450k+, but having to return alone in a simple carriage/sled and arrive in Paris like a commoner in the dead of the night.
>>
>>25619890
oh my bad...i remember now, right before he suggests bringing in that little drummer kid
to give him a warm spot and the chicken i think it was...what a wonderful kid :(
>>25619896
>>25619905
well but i meant the richboi Peter/Piotr aka Pierre as he calls himself towards the french..
yeah he's totally main character but meh...he was a decent guy.
For me the most impressive one was Natalia. Beggin her mother to leave all belongings behind and take the
wounded soldiers instead, as she just found a meaning and joy in life again, transforming into the joyful person as she used to be
And also Captain Tushin for his heroism + at the very end that peasant guy in the army
who sneaks into the french camps and kidnaps whomever he can lay his hands on
>don't worry next time i will snatch 2 generals, i'll promise
>*scratches his butt
:D oh man
