How do I READ more if all around me APES keep making noises ALL THE TIME? Everyone tells me they also suffer a lot of noise in their day to day but it's not such a big deal. Of course it isn't, none of them read, they just stare at their fucking iPads videos, contributing to sound pollution. At this point I believe I hate noise more than I love sound, I would rather go deaf...
>>
I'm going to get one of these whenever I get the chance. I have the same issue. My mom is addicted to Tiktok and my neighbors won't stop making ape noises. I'm going insane.

Last year I bought some basic M3 work headphones and if these don't have any special magic trick, I would suggest to avoid them. They don't work well for voices and they vacuum-seal your ear, making you dizzy and retarded and it hurts too after a while. Right now my best solution is wax caps.

I‘d say it‘s trying that counts. I have dropped so many books halfway done. Sometimes when highly distracted I have simply given up on reading temporarily and walked around the library looking at book titles. The titles alone inspire my thought even if it’s not quote-unquote “reading” per se. I also sometimes do a forage read if I’m really distracted and bounce around at random from paragraph to paragraph or sentences. These are just two techniques you can find more of your own. But the headline here is: the fact that you’re trying is what counts in the long run. I have also (permitted on /lit/?) watched a youtube video in my day and learned from it. Just keep at it take a walk if bored perhaps? I don’t know you but I’d guess you’re doing a good job and are being too hard on yourself. Picrel - comics count too.

Find a reclusive place if you can, and go read there. I'm a neurotic and I was really hyper sensitive when in my teen years (especially 16-17) and would literally read outside in winter, sitting in my favourite sort-of hideout (some ruins). Unfortunetly it was on someone's property so I used to sneak in there and was once held up. Weird times.

It's really uncomfortable. I'm sorry you need this. I used to wear them too.

You're right, you're right.

Yeah I should look for a nice spot, do you still have one now? Or have your surroundings grown more comfortable?
>>
Your whole life would just slip away in the pursuit of nice, comfortable spots. Truth be told, true /lit/ freaks would even begin and stop not the read grind even in the blistering infernos of hell.

To mentally win over noise and chaos, you must brave it and read amidst it, thereby attaining a psychological victory over the distractions and discomforts.
>>
>>25617514
I wear ear defenders for reading. They get more comfortable with time as they loosen up and mould to your head. It helps to wear them the same way round each time and you can stick them on something head sized overnight to stretch them out a bit.
You can wear earplugs underneath as well, or earbuds with whatever white noise playing. Rain or underwater sounds are pretty good for me and help tune out distractions.
The less I want to hear something, the more I can, so I sympathise. Good luck anon

>Yeah I should look for a nice spot, do you still have one now? Or have your surroundings grown more comfortable?
Mostly I think I became less irritable. I mean, I used to get REALLY pissed off really easily and now it's just not the case with me. Still get annoyed often but it's not the same. I once couldn't control myself. That sucked, big time. I think I got over certain things, though not completely

>>25617502
I actually find that noise is great for reading as long as it doesn't get outright piearcing or unpleasant. A tv or radio playing or someone chatting near me will be distracting, but a cafè full of chatter or a park filled with lively noise or even nearby traffic I find to be great to enter in the right mind state to read.
Being in nature will be preferrable of course, but I don't always get to do that aside for the weekends.
>>
The amount of noise someone is capable of supporting is directly inverse to his mental faculties capabilities.

TL;Dr apes love noise.
>>
Cats are so fucking STUPID
LOL
>>
I just use reusable ear plugs at the gym or I just man up and lock in.
>>
>>25617702
isn't the opposite? I'd say the more noise you can ENDURE is proportional to your mental capabilities. I think the more noise you SUPPORT being made would be inverse though.

>>25617502
read outside, in the woods, in a park, in the shade. preferably far from a road.

I actually miss the old 'reading space' threads we would have 5+ years ago. Some anons had very comfy setups.

To your own point, when I was a kid I could read anywhere, and my brain would just automatically block out anything else (to the point where people would be talking directly to me and I wouldn't even realize it). Nowadays it's harder; if there's just general background conversations among many parties it's fine, it all folds into background noise. But if it's music with lyrics, or just one person talking, I have a hard time ignoring it to focus on the book.

>>25617502
Active noise cancelling earbuds, they work.
>>
>>25617702
It's more like someone's tolerance of noise is inversely proportional to his intelligence.
>>
>>25617502
Embrace the noise
Try listening to white or brown noise while reading, it really helps getting immersed in the text. Can also try rain noise
mynoise.net is the only thing that keeps me sane these days

>leafblowers
>unmuffled engines
>loud bass
>dogs barking

I literally cannot get away from it. I unfortunately live next to a well traveled road and I can hear the bass of an engine throughout my home, it's ungodly loud and it never ceases 24/7. My house is like a boombox. I'm actually in hell. Everyone that tells you to just "not let it bother you" are not in that situation and are lazily throwing out copes and platitudes. Even if I try to not let it bother me, put up a wall, it takes so much energy, and like ocean waves the noise just relentlessly batters the wall I put up until it crumbles again. No one gives a fuck about peace and quiet. I don't even live right on the side of the road, I live a quarter mile from it, that's how loud the traffic is. It doesn't stop. Every fucking day I want to scream. I can't sit down to read, CERTAINLY not to write, without being literally constantly interrupted mentally by the noise. I can't hold a thought for more than about a minute before I get raped by the noise and the thought is gone. I viciously despise these people that make noise. I need to move to the middle of nowhere and own all the land around me in a mile radius. That's probably the only thing that'll work.

No they don't. I lived in a townhouse where the psychotic boomer hoa hired landscaping crews to blow leafblowers for a full eight hours a day every other day
right outside my door. It was so loud that with noise canceling headphones on (playing white noise or rain noise
at high volume), in my
bathroom, all the doors and windows closed, all the curtains and blinds drawn, the bathroom fan on, a box fan right outside the bathroom door blowing on max, I could still hear the leafblowers. That's how loud they were. No one believes me when I tell them this. It was to the point where I legitimately thought that I was living in some CIA experimental blacksite where they were seeing how much they could torture a person with noise. It was that bad. And again, no one believed me or wanted to help. What a fucking joke.

Gas leaf blowers are the worst. I keep meaning to look into starting a petition or something to get them banned.
I'm probably going to get myself shot eventually from flipping off all the super noisy cars and motorcycles

Putting up with annoying shitty bullshit is not noble. The main purpose of improving your lot in life is to move away from as much of that stuff as possible.

This is why I have bone conducting headphones. I've never understood how people can bear to listen to things by flooding the air around them with noise.

just insert your entire head inside a brown womans anal cavity to block the noise

the pursuit of nice, comfortable spaces would be a life well spent.
I often wonder what the practical and theoretical maximums of comfort are, especially as it relates to reading.

I've been reading in public often this year so I've kind of adapted to background crowd noise but I get pissed off and autistic if people talk at full volume. My country's art gallery is my go-to spot as a neet because it has incredible couches and beautiful rooms and I go during weekdays when its dead and walk around and look at great paintings when I get bored. Also visit a nice greenhouse-gardens to read and it's beautiful too but not usually as quiet. I should seek out more places.

So, you'd spend it all in the pursuit itself?
