What I find very pleasant about this board is that the people here have read a text that was formatted properly once in their life and don't whine and cry about so called "reddit spacing". Obviously making each sentence a paragraph is retarded, but the people on other boards cry already about "redding spacing" when the text is formatted into logical parts that separate each point or subject, because everything that has minimal formatting is literally Hitler. It's such a performative cry for approval only made so you can appease other idiots who also want to pick on minuscule "issues" in the text since there is no other way of nagging on the post.

Okay, enough shittalking. Just wanted to have said that.

Effortposting on /lit/ is pointless now as all you tend to get is low effort two word replies like >>25616079. It is bizarre on a literature board of all places that a well-formatted post is discouraged, though it isn’t surprising when you consider the quality of posters has dropped off a cliff over the last few years.

>you should respond in earnest to metà threads that have fuck all to do with literature and are just bitching about 4chan culture
Brb then, I have a /r9k/ thread I have to bump
>>

You misunderstand why reddit spacing has become a thing. 4chan and especially /pol/ is subject to endless psy-ops and raids. You can literally see the surge of posts from tourists wax and wane. /lit/ is not nearly as plagued by this as boards like /pol/ are, so this board doesn't care about reddit spacing as much. But it makes perfect sense that boards who are subject to these actions develop methods, however flawed, by which they identify outsiders.

The problem with trying to use reddit spacing as a shibboleth is that its been around before reddit was a thing. People do it because putting spaces between paragraphs makes them easier to read.

Here's a post on /b/ with "reddit spacing" from 2003: https://old.sage.moe/b/thread/2229/#2232

It doesn't matter if it was a thing before r*ddit existed or was a thing in old 4chan. What matters now for the current terminally online userbase of this site is that it works as quick signaling that you don't belong here and your opinions can be discarded without further consideration. It's an automatic reflex at this point, trained for years and now enforced as site culture.
>is literally Hitler
r*ddit as fuck femme unc slang

It was polite to post like that on bulletin boards from then, from 2006 people didn't give a fuck about netiquette as they started going into their narcissistic bubbles. It fell out of favour entirely after the 2012 culture wars compacted all posters into professional sloganeers, and adblockers gave the impression that segmenting a post = wasting my time. People don't care because they don't read, they just scan and react to stuff, but can you blame them, everyone is a fucking basement dwelling propagandist. Ad blockers are killing the web.
>>
>>25616359
I think you havre a valid point but I disagree with your conclusion that adblockers are what's killing the web. You said so yourself that adblockers give the impression that segmented posts are a waste of time when said segmentation is the fault of the ads themselves which are so obnoxious as to justify the use of adblockers in the first place. If anything the aphoristic retardposting of microblogging websites such as twitter are more to blame here.

Reddit spacing was a meme created by the reddit tourists themselves who tried really hard to prove that they're true 4channers.
If you've been browsing very long you'd know that, one, double spacing a post used to be considered normal. and two, that 4chan and reddit coexisted normally for many years up until around 2014 when reddit tourists started showing up with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove that they're not reddit. old reddit was edgier and more chan-like too, with gore subreddits and loli subreddits being more popular there (not that this is a good thing, it's a bad thing, but I'm only expressing that reddit used to be a place that was edgier back in the day)

You're talking to a clinically diagnosed schizophrenic. Stick around for a while and you'll start to recognize him.

>>25616207
Reddit spacing itself is a psyop, the point was never to identify redditors but rather to out newfags who, while trying too hard to fit in, would assume reddit spacing is an actual thing.
>>
>>25616284
Yes, but it doesn't matter what it used to be. It's chan culture now. Lots of people will care about it regardless of if it's rational or not. You can't appeal to rationality when it comes to culture. Firs have fuck nothing to do with Jesus but 95% of everyone who celebrates Christmas will have one. Culture is like that.

>>25616486
How else are internet strangers going to invalidate your argument using irony, dysphemisms, thought terminating clichés, cynical and apathetic reasoning without needing to ascertain its logical validity?
>>
>>25616599
Wish I had an elegant pepe to post in reply to this post I appreciate but
>>
>>25616512
That's ridiculous. It's not about trying too hard to fit in. It's that conforming to a standard that keeps post size shorter, and remains just as legible to anyone who has lurked for more than a day, is one indicator that you haven't just come here in bad faith.
>>
>>25616628
>you haven't just come here in bad faith.
The reddit spacing accusers, even if they operated in truth (they don't), already operate in bad faith. They are tourists. Think about the first person to make the reddit spacing accusation. If you were to accuse someone that is double spacing (which is normal behavior) of coming from Reddit, you'd need to have experience with Reddit to know that Reddit does not allow users to single space.
Even if reddit spacing accusers are true 4chan users (they're not), the reddit spacing accusations only exist as a way to silence someone you disagree with in a bad faith way.
>>
>>25616568
>It's chan culture now
You just outed yourself as someone who is easily influenced by psyops intended to make 4chan less appealing to rational people.

>>25616628
It's not "just as legible" but plain less legible, and that's the point of the entire psyop.

By the way, there was/is another similar psyop against the use of capital letters and proper punctuation.
>>
>>25616649
Also, someone could make the argument that the first reddit spacing accuser knew so much about reddit from only looking at screenshots, but anyone who is willing to make this argument is exposing themselves as a newfag. I know this website is currently at the tail end of the reddit/xitter human centipede content pipeline and 4channers are devouring the redigested shit of every other website but it wasn't always that way. We used to have 0 reddit screenshot threads instead of 20+ at a time like we have today.
>>
>>25616677
You're applying way too much logic to this.
You're not wrong, what I'm saying is that back when this "reddit spacing" thing started, trying to argue against it completely derailed the discussion and whatever you wrote still remained invalidated.
I could believe this is an intentional psyops used to demoralize and discourage people, but I could also believe that 4channers are fucking retards and anytime something rubs them the wrong way they just call you redditor
>>
>>25616384
Thanks. I mean the expectations that develop when mass filtering / blocking is normal, and loss of netiquette. We are intelligent, sane, gentlemen who may utilize ad blocking techniques at our discretion while choosing to tolerate segmentation. The average user is scanning and playing Call of Duty Zombies with the net.
>>
>>25616677
This state fucking sucks, because there aren´t more places to go. All the other places for discussing literature are dead in one way or another. At this point, engaging on literature with AI is more geniune.

>You just outed yourself
My observation that chan culture exists says nothing about my opinion of it. Your reflexive hostility reveals your low quality as a person. Do you think my knowledge or Ramadan makes Muslim, or that I know that the Han don't gift clocks makes me Chinese? Imbecile. You belong on /pol/, not /lit/.

this is what reddit spacing

looks like

because reddit required an extra line break to make it look

like this

Imagine being too afraid to put a space between paragraphs because a mouth-breather might call you a Redditor LOL

It's about the amount of line breaks in a post that makes it a problem. There's a point where too many and it become harder to understand, not easier.

It really should be called xitter spacing now because that platform is plagued by it.

Every scattered thought is spaced.

And the they tell you to wait a bit more because here comes the good part.

And you keep reading

Until the end

The entire point is to get people to linger on a post

Because they think it increases their engagement score.

>>25617082
Wrong
>>
>>25617160
That is just normal writing for Japanese or Chinese users. As for why it gets a space, it just looks nicer in English to have a space between lines. It has nothing to do with reddit.
>>
>>25617160
It makes it super easy to scan a post

for what its saying instead of

extracting from a huge block of text.

This serves you nicely

But without gratitude

with a filtering elitist attitude

all you can see are the inflammatory lines.

SAD

It's because there are literal children here who heard tell of 4chan in some Discord server, where they all spit memes at each other in a general chat and effort posting is pounced on or ignored due to the volume of low-effort shitposts flying through the chat. You're replying to a genuine child.
