/x/ isn't about facts, it's about making retards feel like they're geniuses that have some kind of secret knowledge that normie NPCs will never get.
Reading this right now. It's got about all the basics of magick & the esoteric/occult that you could want, and more.

I keep meaning to get this book, supposedly it's very comprehensive.
>>25617350qtd?
This is a really neat collection. It's about as scholarly as the subject gets.
>>25617344"Semen retention", basically a bunch of weirdos think if they don't have sex or jack off they'll get superpowers.
>>25617357It's about sea monsters. Weird shit in the oceans.
>>25615260I put together what I characterize as my more "serious" /x/ shelf. Two of the books are due to my being Catholic so I will note them as such. The first two, Kooks and Strange Creations, are by a folklorist, Donna Kossy, and cover a range of subjects, mostly strange religions, and do so with relative charity outside of those subjects relating to white supremacists. Monsters of the Sea by Richard Ellis is a very well-researched and balanced account of sea monsters. He is a skeptic but readily admits when skepticism seems the less likely case.Passport to Magonia, and by extension much of the work of Jacques Vallée, is extremely well-researched and probably the best writing on the topic of UFOs. Vallée is not some idiot who pretends to be a scientist; he is a professional astronomer, computer scientist(worked on ARPANET), and has a list of accomplishments too long to list here. This is to say that he takes his reputation seriously and his books are serious.Shane Leslie's Ghost Book is a series of accounts of ghost stories that have the additional scrutiny of having to be in line with Catholic Theology. The Complete Books of Charles Fort is an omnibus of Charles Fort's books on "Forteana". I have personally gone out of my way to verify many of the accounts recorded in his books, including contacting universities across the US and UK to make sure that the accounts he cites are actually in the books and journals he claims. Fort's most important aspect is his philosophy rather than his use in cataloging /x/ events. The Ancient Mysteries Reader, and by extension many of the anthologies edited by Peter Haining, tend to feature weird fiction with connections to real-life occultists or general eccentric beliefs.Onza! is just a very well-put-together cryptozoology book, probably the best besides Monsters of the Sea.Handbook of Unusual Phenomena, and anything by William R. Corliss, is gold, but his works are far different than the other books on the list. He tends to present things in a very detached fashion, and he is fairly selective in what he decides to present to the reader. I would love to have a full set of his Sourcebook Project, but it is thousands of dollars. He is, like Vallée, a serious scientist whose reputation actually means something, and his books reflect that.Occult Phenomena in the Light of Theology is a work that explores /x/-related topics from the perspective of Catholic theology, and attempts to make them compatible. It is a fairly serious work of theology, and I think it would be interesting for non-Catholics.Brad Steiger's Project Bluebook is sort of an anomaly. I would not recommend anything else by Brad Steiger; the guy is a kook. How he deals with Project Bluebook is where the book is worth reading, in that you get this double perspective of a guy who will ALWAYS argue that everything is real, walking you through accounts that someone else collected, in which they will ALWAYS argue everything is fake.
Reading this Pizzagate book after watching that documentary anon shared up above^^^.Shit's crazy.
>>25617330/x/ does suffer from a lot of christfaggotry but its shitposting is no different than any board where the newfag rabble launch into intricate psychotic death fantasies any time they're disagreed with.
what is the most /x/ religion? catholicism?
>>25617751Yes, but also the point is repeatedly pounded into your head in such circles that none of that stuff matters in relation to salvation and also most of the clergy feels that a focus on that sort of stuff is harmful to the church's image and so avoids it. One of my personal heroes, Charles Coloumbe, gave a great lecture on the topic.https://youtu.be/eUY3eoVmRvI
>>25617797is there any religion that instead of avoiding it, actively seeks it out and develops it? hindu tantra maybe? tibetan bon?
>>25617462Bro wtf. There's a shitton of darkness in the world. Maybe that's why Bourdain killed himself?
>>25615260>subject: /x/>content: /pol/Huh?
>>25617804Well that's the thing, the only religion to really attempt to systematize these things is Catholicism, Catholic theology is the origin of the terms "supernatural" and "preternatural". Other religions will lean into it, or try to catalog, for example the Puritans were very fascinated by the preternatural and Puritan writers would address it like cataloging, or the Shinto have strange phenomena as very central to their beliefs, but like less formal folk beliefs it is all taken without much of an attempt to understand mechanisms, it just is how it is. Occult Phenomena In Light of Theology was posted earlier in the thread and is a good example of something pretty uniquely Catholic, a serious and systematic theological examination of the preternatural.
